every year the government releases a volumn of all the social resource programs that are avilable to the public. And every year it is published internally! So how the fuck does that work? The answer is, it doesn’t. How does one get their hands on this vital, and helpful info? The truth can be told by calling this, easy to remeber number, 1-800-O-CANADA! They don’t even publish the number. Fuck you, I say, and the dirty pile of cash you sleep on! —Pinchin’ Loafs, Driven by Madness

There’s this thing called Google. Google Service Canada. Voila. Welcome to 2004. (I Googled that)
Hey, guess what? It’s in the blue government pages in the PHONE BOOK under, you guessed it – Service Canada. Welcome to 1915!
Yes, the 1-800-OCANADA is such a secret number and it’s never been advertised on TV or radio. Oh wait, it has. OB, I bet you expect the government to mail every piece of information to your door. What a maroon. It is there for the asking and online. Try doing something novel and getting off your ass. But then again you can sit on your ass and look up the info.
If that number hasn’t been published, how is it available? By word of mouth only? Sometimes you have to do a bit of digging to find exactly what you’re looking for OP, not everything is handed on a silver platter.
I don’t expect to be spoon fed every single offering by the government. No one should expect that.
I know a few Welfare recipients who think that receiving said Welfare cheque is a right as a Canadian citizen. Sad…. I also know someone who paid a high price to avoid being forced on Welfare to feed her child. She told me,she lives with that guilt everyday.
Tough call.
I called 1-800-O-CANADA once and was told my voting station was changed.
So what you’re saying, OB, is that the information is out there but we to life a finger to get it? That’s outrageous! I’d rather be disinformed by force, not by choice! They should obviously be publishing that massive volume of social programs and distributing it to all Canadians. (/sarcasm).
Don’t even publish the number where? In the yellow pages? I’ve heard that number advertised several times.
Go sign an online petition or post a meme about it on facebook. I’m sure that slacktivism will make you feel better. You’d REALLY be sticking it to the man then!
They advertise 1-800-O-Canada all the time on the boob tube. They say its a public directory for all government of Canada services. I call them occassionally when I cant find easy answers online – maybe you should stop living under a rock and waiting for shit to be spoon fed to you and actually help yourself for once.
Then there is this new thing called the Internet…
Ustwess R. Dewoh!
wow. People now have to be responsible for doing THEIR OWN research about things that affect their OWN lives??
What has our world come to? O! If only there were a service that allowed someone to type a question into a box (sort of like how i’m typing my answer right now) and upon the click of a button that service would return information pertinent to my question.. See, THIS is my vision for the future. So that victims of their own laziness can become empowered, can have the world at their fingertips… can…
fuck off op.
I knew OP wasn’t bitching specifically about Welfare.I just thought I’d put in my 2cents on the subject.
Inquiring minds want to know.So they get off their lazy ass and find out.
