Agreed, OP. It should be up to the reader whether to preview the full text or just see the beginnings.
Then again, it makes sense for The Coast or any website to want to keep stats on which posts are most read, and AFAIK, keeping a tallies is impossible without click-throughs.
I like it better this way. I can skew down to quickly scan all new topics, and when I see H1N1, fat, stroller, bus, car, coffee, etc., in the first part, I can skip it without having to read it all.
Totally agree. If it’s stats on readers they’re after put an ‘agree/disagree’ or ‘like/dislike’ (definitely not just ‘agree’ or ‘like’, leave that to LTWWL) function next to the bitch.
Just because I click on a bitch to continue reading more than the first line doesn’t necessarily mean I’m going to enjoy it – it means I want to hear more than a partial, incomplete thought.
I agree with ‘mrman’, it’s ANNOYING, especially for the Bitches which are already short. My computer’s slow enough and it’s just an added hassle to have to open up more Bitches thinking that there may be a whole interesting story to it, having to wait those precious extra two or three seconds for everything to load, then finding out there’s only one line that’s missing, having to go back to the previous page of Bitches which also take yet more precious seconds. If I don’t want to read a particular Bitch, I just scroll on past it. Maybe it’s another way for The Coast to generate more ad revenue on the site? Ohh I don’t know!

I am very biased here, since this site is practically the only only one I post to, but I say The Coast should just count the number of posts on a bitch if they really need a metric.

I don’t like it either…reminds me of facebook when you click “read more” on someone’s post, only to find the missing “….” or “lol” or some such.

I guess I’m the only one who uses the next and previous bitch navigation posted at the top of each bitch (detail view… this one). It’s annoying though because if you browse the bitches this way and post a comment the navigation loses it’s ‘mind’ forgetting what’s next and what came before… a small bug not really worth mentioning until now.
