If there was a decade to never resurrect, it’s the 1980’s. It’s not that I hold it in any poor esteem, after all, it’s the decade that I grew up in, and it had the best cartoons!

But, in about a week, Hollywood is releasing 2 films that scream “the 80’s”. The A-Team and The Karate Kid. Last year, they ruined Astro Boy, G.I. Joe (not really a 80’s thing per se, but they did have an iconic cartoon) AND the Transformers. The worst part of it all is that these movies made money!

I guess there’s truth in “nostalgia sells”, it’s only made worse because they don’t even have to be creative. —I’m Tired Of Rehash

  1. Be disgusted by a bankrupt Hollywood that’s run out of ideas, but the 80’s were great. Nostalgia is alive and well if you don’t let this shit get to you. Don’t pay for it, don’t watch it.

  2. i was surprised to see mr. neeson playing the george peppard role…now that guy sucked. i’m with sugar i enjoyed the 80’s

  3. I spent the first half of the 80’s in the King’s Wardroom and the last half at the Sore-arse. I’m amazed at how much I remember and believe me there’s much I’d like to forget but fuck yeah it was the best decade of my life. Here’s my outrage; rumor has it there’s a remake of Red Dawn in the works. This time it’s the Chinese. Oy Vey!

  4. the only redeeming things about the 80’s, was that it only lasted 10 years. now if you wanna talk 60’s, early 70’s, now that when things were really happening all over the world. woodstock, being the biggest draw of any concert ever, over 500 thousand people there, man what a fucking trip. my first love and i were there, and enjoyed every second, even the downpour. BRING BACK THE 60’S.

  5. cool lifer, don’t take the yellow acid! i wasn’t born til 61 but i remember expo 67

  6. If the trailer is any indication, then someone should nuke the A-Team movie. It looks like total crap. Not to mention how Hollywood fucked up Dukes of Hazzards, Starsky & Hutch, etc.

  7. has anyone seen trailers for the expendables? fuck even arnie is it in and mr. rourke. they should have thrown charlie sheen in to the mix

  8. painy sweetheart, you just told your age, oh oh. dgaf, i hope not also, one run of those things were bad enough, although the bricklin was cool. bro tim, that’s what they do in hollyweird, fuck up stuff that used to be decent, but then again, they are to lazy or stupid to think up new scripts.( but boy o boy, do i got one for them, it’s called,”moderator to a bitching crew”). coming soon to a bitch board near you, featuring a moderator from hell( not this one), and bitchers to make your skin crawl. and there is also the comic relief in there too, q., me, more, and of course t.t.f.n.

  9. The 80’s were awesome especially in Halifax, great bars – The Network, Cabbagetown, the Palace (when all 3 levels were open), Scoundrels, JJ Rossi’s, Secretaries, the Misty Moon etc, so many great memories from those days, but getting back to the point at hand – Yes re-makes suck, in fact I try not to watch them.

  10. i have revealed my age before suckulous…i spent the 80’s in toronto, but i try to enjoy the one-way ticket wherever i am

  11. Oh Garbagetown. Last stop on the way home from a night on the tiles. And the two little hole in the wall donair and sub places on that block.

  12. When it first opened it was a pretty good bar, food on the first floor all the way to the shuffleboard way upstairs, the beer wars were fun too, with the Scrow, Peddlars and Lower Deck all competing, you used to get those 16oz draft mugs for 60 cents each, so you would order 6 – drink 3 give 2 away and spill 1 and tip, and you still did ok. Can’t believe whats there now…

  13. If it wasn’t already clear which generations are represented in this forum….take the GXAT (Generation X Aptitude Test).

    1. Do you want to change the world?

    a) Yes, and I’m proud to say we did it, man. We changed the world. Just look around you!

    b) Yes, absolutely, and I promise I will get back to doing that just as soon as interest rates return to where they’re supposed to be.

    c) Omigod, omigod, changing the world and helping people is, like, totally important to me! I worked in a soup kitchen once and it was so sad but the poor people there had so much dignity!

    d) The way you phrase that question is so fucking cheesy and absurd that I am not even sure that I want to continue with this pointless exercise.

There is only one question on the GXAT. If you answered “d”, (and you identify with the 80s), you’re an Xer. (Taken from Jeff Gordinier, _X Saves the World_.)

    LIFE SUCKS, I’m guessing you’d pick “a”. 😉

  14. but bd, you didn’t put in the most important one there.e.)fuck the world, let’s blow it up and let the monkies and apes take over again. KILL ALL THE DIRTY FUCKING HUMANS.

  15. Don’t forget the TRON remake that’s coming out! I’m waiting for the War Games remake.

  16. they should bring back 80’s commercials. i’d rather listen to brenda vacarro shilling tampax with her throaty voice, than those happy period fuckers

  17. Oh Yeah, Mother Nature’s got to go. Terminate with extreme prejudice. Use her to plug BP’s oil well. In your social set PG was the phrase “Going Brenda Vaccarro ” synonymous with “On the rag”?

  18. PG, that was my favorite part of watching the old shows on game show network…
all the old plugs, commercials and prizes were hilarious.

  19. Yeah, adolescent males (a growth period which usually ends in the early 40s) are not exactly creation’s crowning achievement. >: (. Mind you, we learn social intercourse (no sniggering LS) from interracting with adolescent females so I guess it all balances out eventually.

  20. ivan, can’t piss and snigger at the same time bud. but yeah, that is about it. i have the pvr thing from bell aliant, and have all the old channels there at my pleasure. i love watching happy days, andy griffith and even phil silvers. then there is the turner classics and history and a bitch load of the others too. and i can record it if i want to watch something else, with the built in hard drive.gives me a whole list of shit that i can watch, if nothing else is on.which is hardly ever. i love my digital cable. and 130 bucks a month, is dollars well spent. plus, i can hook up to usb cable, and burn off a dvd if i want to, fucking fantasimo.

  21. The 80s were awesome, and anyone who doesn’t think so is either a drugged-out hippie, a lame-ass Disco nut, or old. True story.

  22. That’s not true. You’re just stupid, stupid.

Sure new wave was awesome but disco was great too.
