You really suck, and you made me hate Nova Scotian drivers even more. Would it really have been too difficult to give me three extra seconds to get past you before having your turn to go? I was driving down Allan St. last evening, which are all single lane because of how much snow is on the sides and with parked cars, following a truck ahead of me. Because of how large the truck was, I didn’t realize as we passed two parked cars on the right side (parked in the direction we were going), that you were waiting for the truck to pass before continuing on in the opposite direction. I got 1/4 of the way passed the second parked car, about to veer to my right (ie. back in my lane), but you slowly inched forward so that I had to slow down even more. You KEPT inching forward, to the point where you were THIS CLOSE to hitting my car. All you had to do was stay stopped in the exact place you were for the truck (and I was close enough behind the truck this would have cost you five seconds of your time; I mean I was close enough behind the truck that I didn’t see you waiting for fucks sake), and let me pass, but instead you KEPT inching forward so that I had to FUCKING back up two car lengths so that you could pass first. Are you fucking kidding me? You’re an asshole. No wonder there are so many fucking accidents in this province, people drive like assholes.
ps: why are people so lazy here? Do you really need to park in front of stores in the fire lanes because it’s too fucking difficult to walk 20 feet from the parking lot? Also – those diagonal lines in the parking lot mean DON’T PARK HERE – they aren’t fancy looking fucking parking spots. —Ifeelbetternowthanks

You don’t even realize how in the wrong you were. Am sure you will figure it out without me bothering with the details. Thanks for the morning laugh.
ditto koda. op, you were being educated in proper driving behaviour. you are NOT the little empress of the world. grow up
CLEARING AWAY THE CONCEPTUAL UNDERBRUSH
“No wonder there are so many fucking accidents in this province, people drive like assholes.”
Is this an empirical claim or a conceptual truth? In the case of the latter there is obviously a tight cause-effect relationship between the number of accidents and the number of people who drive like assholes. The more assholes, “certeris paribus” (that’s Latin for “other things being equal”) the more accidents.
The case of the former however is not so clear-cut. Before the cause-effect relationship between accidents and assholes can be established what, in fact, constitutes an asshole must be determined. Are there border-line cases where an individual might not qualify as a full-blown asshole? Must he have been an asshole over a considerable period of time to qualify? Qualifications like these soften the edges of the concept of what is, in fact, an asshole.
Two conclusions can be drawn. First it can be seen that while there exists a tight cause-effect relationship between accidents and assholes, what counts as being an asshole in the first place must be clarified. In philosophy this is sometimes referred to as “clearing away the conceptual underbrush.” Secondly, and counter-intuitively for some, it can also be seen that the empirical question is parasitic on the conceptual one. In other word, the question of quantity presupposes a resolution of the question of quality.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
A pleasure as always,
Cheerio!
I don’t know…this one could go either way….either one of them could have been a self-centered entitled twat….if the truck was blocking her/his view then really, just let him/her continue on through. I can tell you though, this snow has brought out the worst in people!!
I side with the 60ish man on this one, OB. In a tight situation like that the etiquette is normally to take turns using the clear lane. You decided to piggyback on the truck in front of you to sneak through. It also sounds like the 60ish man would have had clear passage in his lane if you handn’t left yours and crossed into his. So, you were doubly wrong as far as I can tell.
Being a 60ish man myself, I’ll side with OB. If they’re following a truck, there’s a chance they didn’t even see the other driver (Mr. 1955) until said truck pulled back into the proper lane. In that case, if OB was almost to the proper lane his or herself, Mr. 1955 should have just let them proceed rather than back all the way up.It‘s just more practical.
Gotta watch those old guys. Once they’ve got an idea in their head, there’s no shifting it.
a lot of streets in halifax are down to one lane. keep calm and take turns http://www.dpcdsb.org/NR/rdonlyres/173A7E3…
my gripe is with the outrage expressed by OP at not being allowed to take precedence over the right of way, not to mention common courtesy.
now if op had posted a bitch saying ‘gee I am sorry, I was so close to that truck I lost my head and figured it would be ok to keep going ‘out of turn’ but you scared the crap out of me by enforcing the right of way’.
there. there now.
instead it was a ‘wah wah why couldn’t YOU wait so I could take YOUR turn at the gap and wouldn’t be inconvenienced by 5 seconds’.
And even worse are the drivers you see in the mirror at home. Those can be truly terrifying. Shudder.
Traffic bitches are so boring.
This is another instance of what is often called the “free rider” syndrome. The OB tried to piggy-back on another driver so he could sneak through without waiting his turn as he should.
It reminds me of a situation at work. We had a coffee fund. One of the staff was kind enough to bulk purchase coffee pods, make sure there was milk and cream in the fridge, restock disposable cups and stir sticks, etc. The etiquette was that when you took a cup you were supposed to put a dollar or an IOU in a can beside the machine. The system worked great at first but then we started to notice that the number of loonies collected was far less than the number of coffee pods purchased – an average of several per day. The coffee fund was abandoned. Yet another example of the free-riders ruining it for the honourable among us.
When following trucks you can’t always see what’s coming the other way in a narrow street. Yes OP could have stopped to see if there was another vehicle but if there’s multiple cars to get by parked by the snow bank, it’s easier just to let the group of vehicles go and then another group of cars can go the other way. Sort of like how the sign guys direct the flow of traffic at a road construction site.
Besides, I feel both OP and Mr. 1955 are guilty. Anyone hanging around Allan st. is looking for trouble anyway.
Allan Street?

Maybe the OB and the older feller were just looking for some action. What kind of action, you ask? Well, let’s hear it from the horse’s mouth:

One of my favourite movies of all time Cat.
I don’t watch youtube attachments. Can you sing?
