Thanks, internet, for ruining another wonderful thing…first it was good old fashioned letter writing, LPs, cassette tapes and CDs/movies/newspapers/magazines/et cetera…

But the ONE thing that truly pisses me off is that books are going the way of the dinosaur….FRACK ME. —NED LUDD

  6. books have to endure. they ‘work’ during power outages and the collapse (hopefully imminent) of civilization. the sheer, orgasmic pleasure of spending half a day buying new books, coming home with bags of them, deciding which 3 to read first. and picking up books just because they catch your eye. i am greedy-guts about books.

    and music. i know you can download it but i like mountains of cd’s.

  12. I’ve got(almost literally) tons of hard copy books. I still buy hard copy books, even, if I want it enough. I also have an e-reader that holds hundreds, fits in my pocket, and isn’t nearly as expensive to shop for. Electronic edition for 11.99 instead of 34.99? Yes plz. That’s at least two more books.

  13. i have a kobo and it was great for reading the game of thrones series, i usually have more than one book on the go anyway. like you said sw, they fit in my coat pocket, if i get a chance to read i can do so

    Crayons has a good point. It’s still literature. I still have a bookshelf full of books. It’s actually one of the only furniture items I take with me when I move. I’ll probably still get an e-reader tho

  22. I hate reading off a screen and prefer paper. That said, books are here to stay. I would consider an e-reader if i go on vacation (only for luggage weight restrictions).

  23. I like both – the advantage of the e-reader is that you don’t have to carry around 684 pounds of books every time you move. Believe me, I did it nearly thirty times over the last 40 years – I still won’t part with my huge comic strip oversized book collection – a huge advantage when your sofa doesn’t have legs.

    Go to the second-hand shops if you have a hankering for old style on the cheap.

  25. Well, LPs and cassette tapes were on their way out before the internet came along. Books won’t disappear but they may morph a bit being made of light recycled plastic instead of paper.
    As well OP, if you’re worried about books going the way of the dinosaur, take heart in the fact that dinosaurs still abound. A certain “wing” of them anyway. Check out your backyard birdfeeder.

    Though, I will say that the fact that some books aren’t available in hard copy form is annoying. My mom has been scouring stores and the internet for a hard copy to order of a new book she wants and the publisher has only made it available by eReader. Mom ain’t into that shit, and I don’t blame her — I can’t read books on a screen, either. *sigh*
