To the person who let me change lanes during rush hour on Quinpool, thank you! I know it seems something small and insignificant, but it was in back to back traffic and most people wouldn’t have. I am a new driver and slower to move than most so your patience when I edged over was very sweet. I meant to give a little wave but was too frazzled to even look to the back of me:) You made my day:)

  1. Just be thankful you’re driving here in Halifax and not in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, or Vancouver! The most annoying thing I find about drivers here is that they may be a bit TOO courteous, fucking with the rules of the road and flow of traffic by trying to be nice.

  2. You’re welcome . . . I think. It could have been me. I do this all the time . . . let people in. It makes my day.

Why? Because the HRM traffic engineer responsible for mixing together pedestrians, bicycles and cars in this city doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground.

That being the case, I’ve appointed myself Traffic Engineer At Large and in this capacity I correct the flawed traffic flows endemic to this municipality.

It slows things down, but it works for me and that’s all anyone should care about.

  3. OMG I live now in calgary and its a bitch to drive around here noone lets you in you have to bulldog your truck into lanes cause noone will let you in – thanks god for hali and dart where people have some courtesy . I sometimes forget to wave myself but it’s appreciated when i am let in and always try to let someone in myself for the favor – it just makes traffic run smoother when you use the one for one rule for letting people in . I love the ones that won’t let you in race up the road and 10 minutes later your at the same stop light right behind them – courtesy rules in traffic – even I let the buses in traffic and never seem to think i wasted the time cause the wave speaks volumes . If you actually think of rush hour and people merging if you use the one for one – it actually makes traffic run so much more smoothly
