I know the Turkish toy boys at the mall that you’re talking about. They grab your hand and file the fuck out of the top of your nail bed, then buff it all down. It ruins the nail and becomes all thin like when you get acrylics put on. They tried to sell me a thing of handcream for 80 bucks and that was half-off cuz I was so pretty too.

You can buff your own nails and it doesn’t ruin your nails.
I have a nail buffer stick like a nail file. As long as you don’t overdo it, your nails will be fine — just don’t do it overly often. I’ll do it once a month or so to clean up my nails and I’ve had no problems.
