Ok. To “Teenie” (who ordered first) and your two short haired blonde friends who sat in a booth at a very popular, busy pub on Spring Garden between 7-8pm on Fri, Oct.17. You asked me for a Ten Penny. You ordered a club w/fries, chicken fingers w/baked potato, and a chicken parm, with two Keiths bottles. LEAVING WITHOUT PAYING IS CALLED THEFT!! I had to cough up the cash for that little stunt, and as an extra kick in the crotch, I had to tip out to the kitchen/

bar/food runners! You stole $50 from the pocket of someone who works to put themselves through university. You were all in your mid thirties, could you not afford it? What the hell? I hope you read this and your conscience starts eating away at you and that you get your asses back to settle up your tab. I also hope that someone steals $50 from your wallet, because I doubt you’d be too happy about it. Finally, I hope you’re never dumb enough to try to come back in without settling up. At the very least you’ll be pointed out for being the thieves you are, although there’ll likely be some peppery language and you’ll probably experience some element of personal humilation. Please come in to settle up, and understand that when you walk out on a bill, it costs the little guys like me, who busts their ass to make a buck.

Why am I buying you dinner?

  1. I agree that the dine and dash is a prick move for the most part. But I’m guilty of doing it in my life. If I have to sit at the table with empty beers and plates for 45mins waiting for someone to come over and at least ask if we want the bill, then I’m outta there. In a case like that I really couldn’t give a shit about the waiter/waitress’ wallet. Not to assume you were shitty waiter/waitress…..but are you?

  2. Inward reflection, one of the most ineffective but effective things to do. I’M A MAVERICK!!! <---- By the way, The Bad Guy is going to say Maverick 20 times today, 30 times Tuesday, 40 times on Wednesday (and so on) in the hopes of being elected US President.

  3. Why does everyone think that wait staff is to blame when their bitches are placed here. We cannot complain anywhere else, this is the place to do it. I ripped off a Twoonie & was sentenced to death with comments here a few weeks ago. Do the math $2.00 over 10 hours is how much? WTFuck ! You still had to tip out!!!! Where do you work? I’ll be there with 49 others to each give you a $1.00.

  4. I’ve been to a few certain downtown pubs..Oftentimes the waitstaff never comes back except to get you out of the booth.. Oftentimes they ask how everything is AS THEY WALK PAST without stopping, hardly leaving you time to answer… If I had poor enough service, I may consider leaving as well.. but it would have to be really bad service/food..Secondly – forcing you to pay for the loss, is that legal?

  5. Bartender; the difference between what you did and what the customer did is ….. NONE. Theft. plain and simple.I wouldn’t dine and dash, and IF I had to wait 45 minutes for my bill, well I would head on up to the cash and ask for it. Pay for my food, and reflect the 45 min wait in the tip. This happened to me not 2 weeks ago. Yes they were busy; we waited 30 minutes to see if we could get coffee after our meal, we didn’t bother then 20 minutes to get our bill. Went to Cash, paid for our meal. There’s no reason or exscuse for being a crook.

  6. Any waitstaff bitching about “tipping out” pay attention: this is WHY YOU TIP OUT, to create a fund to COVER DINE & DASHERS!!! If it isn’t, find out from your head waiter(s) why it isn’t.

  7. I’d say its legal to charge for dine and dashers, just as a gas station attendant is charged for someone who fills and leaves.I wonder if its to punish the employee for not keeping a better eye on the customer, to guilt customers into paying, or the obvious an easy way to protect profits.Either way it affects the establishments bottom line a lot less then the staff’s wallet.Maybe these restaurants need to be more maverick-like, like me!

  8. The Bad Guy wins ; good point. I said I learned . I am sorry. Forgive already. Better yet, Wednesday “he” will be in I’ll over “pay” said customer by $4. And that should just about balance out the universe. Deal or no deal?

  9. “If I have to sit at the table with empty beers and plates for 45mins waiting for someone to come over and at least ask if we want the bill, then I’m outta there.”Are your legs broken? Get up, walk to the cash register, pay, leave. It’s that simple. If you get shitty service, don’t leave a tip.

  10. really though. if you are trying on clothes in a clothing store and the lineup is really long and you have to wait 35 minutes, you don’t just take the stuff and not pay for it. get up and ask for the freakin bill.

  11. Cranky, tipping out is not meant to cover dine and dash scenarios. It supplements the kitchen and support staffs’ terrible salaries and helps to support the owners’ lifestyles – don’t fool yourself, the 100% of the pool that represents what the waitstaff pay in is not equalled by what comes out on the other side. Not even close. And yes to all who said get off your lazy ass and walk to the cash. If service was poor it is reflected in the tip (or lack thereof).

  12. Thats what I meant by “if it isn’t covering d&d’s, find out why”.The resto I worked in years ago the tip-out went to:a) .60/hour for each hour a kitchen staffer worked,b) fund to partially pay for parties, and c) fund to cover the occasional dine & dashIt was quite the slush fund, with the occasional head waiter dipping to pay for their coke habit but other than that it was a pretty good idea.

  13. I can’t be the only one who thinks that its insane that restaurants can charge their employees with dash and dines. I don’t know who’s worse: the people who ran out on their bill or the management for bullying their worker into paying for the meal.
