This biological father makes thousands and thousands of dollars in a month, spends the money on coke and gambling but I don’t see a cent. as much as you are right, Koda, its not how it goes. My step father paid twice what he had to, because he never looked it up, for his two children with his estranged (cheating) wife. She took all that money and went on trips 3-4 times a year. When he realized how much he was overpaying, the judge ordered that he continue paying that amount because it was a quality of life concern. Not a dime went to paying for anything for the kids, no sports, no clothing, school supplies, no. that was all extra he also had to cover or he didnt get to see his kids. the flipside is that i have friends that were dragged out to Alberta by scumbags who then got them pregnant, once they had a kid, dropped like a sack of wheat. Then they go off the books out on the rigs so they cant get ME from the deadbeats. PLUS they wont let the mothers move back to NS to be with family because they wont give up parental rights…mother fuckers need to be on a national shaming campaign.

Were you legally married? Whether you are entitled to alimony, as with claims on inheritance, varies from province to province. Simple procreation is not always sufficient. Get a lawyer and find out.

MEP is about as useful as Child Protection. They only go for the easy ones.
And if he left you, don’t be too poor to pay for a lawyer for years, because making things “right” WILL take years. And if you run out of money for lawyers, don’t count on legal aid being helpful. If he owes arrears, kiss it good-bye. Legal Aid are too overworked or underpaid to give a shit. 8 years and I ended up being awarded $5k of approx $40 k owed, no contribution to extra-curriculars and feeling like not an ounce of f$*# was given when told it was unreasonable to ask for or expect more than 1/8 of what was owed.
