To those girls drinking on that veranda on Quinpool that warm night… For yelling: “Hey! Get back in your big truck, ya big buck” at the guy who was screaming in my car window. I cut him off with a poorly timed right turn onto Quinpool — he lost his mind, jumped out of his truck, and screamed in my face that I was a “dumb bitch” and a “stupid slut”. Thanks for humiliating him until he got back into his truck and left me alone. I think he would have punched me in the head if you hadn’t mocked him like that. An extra thanks for reminding him that he was an asshole as he retreated…

Very nice!
This is why the pink ribbon campaign is so successful…
when women band together, they are a force to be reckoned with.
“Hey! Get back in your big truck, ya big buck.”
Is that really the best they could come up with? Not even any of the typical small penis jokes that women still think are absolutely hilarious and make us guys really embarassed? No wonder all the best comedians are men! Even most of my female friends agree.
Heh…some of the best comedians are also some of the worst. Funny how that works.
I don’t know what it is, but I have rarely found female comedians funny. Like I alluded to earlier, they play on the same very lame jokes over and over about loser guys hitting on them, guys with small dicks who can’t stay up or last long, their periods, and… hmm, what else? Maybe I really am just a sexist, misogynist women-hater and don’t even know it.
I’m sorry but I’m a guy and think that Lisa Lampanelli is one funny bitch. (Her words, not mine). Check out some of her stuff! Especially her roast of Flava Flav! “I don’t know why you wear such a big clock around your neck, you haven’t had to be anywhere in 15 years” lol
Speaking on behalf of one of the “veranda drinkers” let’s just say this: It wasn’t a funny situation so at the time, off the top of our little heads came what wouldn’t come naturally to anyone else. I think the “incident” pulled other choice words out that were not published. He was a BIG jerk who thought it was necessary to get out of his car after being cut off. The issue isn’t about what was said, it was: even when mistakes happen, there’s no need to escalate it further. Perhaps because it was a man should solidify the importance of anger management. We were glad to help despite how “unladylike” our conduct may have been. Just call us the Quinpool Veranda Capers.
Yeah, there’s definitely a few female comedians who are alright, but most I’ve seen seem to be how I described them. Like I said, even most of my female friends prefer male over female comedians. That whole Flava Flav roast was pretty hilarious though, but I didn’t know what the big fascination was with Lisa Lampanelli’s vagina!
Fair comment Peaches, I guess it may not have been a funny situation at the time and you were doing your best to help the girl and make the guy leave, which you did. I just thought he could have possibly been even more humiliated with some more clever language. The bottom line is that you were successful and no one got hurt!
Stand-up comedy is still pretty male dominated, so it stands to reason that there would be more popular male comics to female comics. Also, consider that one of the main points of origin for female stand-up comedy is socio-political perspective, a lot of it is feminist in nature, and so it’s understandable that it may be offensive or just not funny to some. Just like certain ethnically-oriented comics, they’re coming from a particular perspective and speaking about a specific life experience, so they don’t have the broad appeal that other comics do.
I hear what you’re saying though, and I too find much of the stereotypical female comedy to be a bit tiresome and unoriginal, but there are definitely some great female comics out there. Nikki Payne is one I thoroughly enjoy, and she happens to be from Halifax too! Hard not to laugh at a chubby girl with a lisp telling dirty jokes and humping her microphone stand 🙂
I definitely don’t get offended easily if at all, I just don’t find most female comedians’ jokes to funny to be honest, but you’re right that it may be because I can’t truly “get it” being a male. On the other hand, like I said, many of my female friends agree with me. I also enjoy many black, Indian, and Asian comedians, though, even when they’re poking fun at middle-class white guys like me.
Nikki Payne is alright, just a bit more annoying than funny in my opinion. Then again, so am I!
