Congratulations on putting 20 people out of work. I hope you enjoy being a martyr. It pays shit, but hey, at least you don’t have those pesky employees to take care of anymore. —Good riddance

  1. Employers are not babysitters that are required to ”take care of” employees. Employees perform a function to which the employer compensates those individuals. There is no ”you owe me” within the equation.

Now, as far as your bitch goes, these people decided it was time to cut the reel. Somehow you made it all about you. WTF?

  2. I think I know which company this is about.
The employees tried to unionize. I have mixed feeling about unions but they are generally good for employers and employees since they set very clear rules. The owners in question seemed to think that the flexibility of having lots of non-unionized and freelance staff was crucial to their bottom line so they chose to relocate.

If I understand, the company in question was also impacted by the changes to the film credits. While I understand government wanting to move away from direct subsidization of industry, I think it has become clear that these changes should have been brought about in a more gradual and measured way so that the impacts could be seen at each step on the way. And it’s not too late to backtrack and take a more orderly approach.

  3. OOOOHHH! Now I know to whom they refer. Jesus, a bit late bitching, aren’t’ ya’?! Anyway…

OB, your employer was indeed a knob – and in many more ways than to which you have referred. What does a child do when they don’t like the rules? They pack up and leave.

    OB, you are FREE!

  4. They took an ideological stance (against the advice of their lawyers)on what would in reality have cost very little in actual money (some health benefits) and it cost them hundreds of thousands, if not not more, as well as taking more well paying jobs out of the province. Complete and utter morons.
