This doctor was not just incompetent, but aggressive He dismissed my rape, by a stranger as unimportant even though that’s why I went to him in the first place. I requested that he refer me to someone else, he refused to do so and pressured me to continue seeing him. He engaged in boundary violations with me, telling me all about his divorce, and his childhood. I was fortunate to escape from him, obtaining assistance, along with a proper diagnosis and treatment from another professional. Now, finally, my life is better; when I saw that doctor things only became worse not only emotionally but my physical health also deteriorated. —Much better now

  1. BOUNDARY VIOLATIONS

“He engaged in boundary violations with me, telling me about his divorce, and his childhood.” Much better now

I’m the same way. There’s nothing that ticks me off more than a doctor yapping about his childhood.

    A pleasure as always,

    Cheerio!

  2. I would not have even bothered going back after the first time Dr. Creep weirded me out. You have to act in your own best interests instead of handing that responsibility to someone else, non?

  3. Did you report the “rape” to the police? Cause I’m pretty sure they refer you to a professional who knows how to deal with this sort of trauma.

  4. That sucks that your doctor was so terrible, OB. I hope you treat this as a valuable lesson and next time you are in a situation where a doctor (or anyone else for that matter) is treating you unprofessionally and as if your feelings/whatever don’t matter, you stand up for yourself. Because really, no one else is going to.

Oh, and report that doctor to the appropriate people.

  5. Anytime I hear a story like this I just assume OP is just some fucking wackjob. No mention of reporting this to the police or health authorities – just some long winded bullshit about how you “escaped” being told about a doctor’s childhood. How the fuck does that even make sense.

  6. So what kind of doctor was it? Family, Psychiatrist, Psychologist, and as previously mentioned, did you report it to the police?

  7. I’m not clear as to how the doctor’s behaviour was unprofessional or inappropriate, given the incomplete information.

It is a very human thing to attempt to relate one experience to another. For example, was the doctor attempting to show empathy by explaining that he/she has also experienced pain or trauma, and thereby let you know that they were NOT trivializing your experience? Were they trying to (perhaps awkwardly) show that they “get it” and are in your corner, willing to help you through a difficulty?

If you think this conduct was inappropriate, by all means report it.

If, on the other hand, it was an unsuccessful attempt to connect on an emotional level, well then you need a different doctor that can relate to you better.

  8. Wow. If this is true, this clown needs to be reported. Unclear whether this rape happened recently (which should involve the police and not necessarily this doctor) or years ago and OP was looking to deal with the emotional scars. Either way, good riddance.
