To the Texting Twit at the corner of Spring Garden & South Park:
That red light that was facing us? Yeah, that means we’re not supposed to walk across the street just yet. At least you realized it before you got hurt, although one more step and you would have bounced off the side of the van that had just come through the intersection on the green light. I’m sure you didn’t hear me laughing at you, as you stood puzzled, then stepped back to the curb, but at least you provided me with some amusement.
I hope that text message was important enough to risk your life for, idiot.

I love when I’m walking down the sidewalk and a texter is walking towards me. It usually ends up with us playing a game of chicken that they don’t realize they’re playing. The expressions on their faces when they finally look up at the last second is always priceless 🙂
I think we can safely assume the text wasn’t worth risking one’s life over. It was probably something like “omg so and so pissed me off so much today” or “I’ll be there soon I am crossing at spring garden and south park now”
This is one of the best posts I’ve read in a while. True, dangerous, yet HIGH larious! Technology is deadly in the wrong hands.
So…you’d allow an individual to be injured or potentially killed due to inattention? You’d rather watch someone put him/herself into harm’s way then yell out a cautionary note? Wow, you are a nice person.
just maybe numbnuts was writing his will out. seems to me, that in this day and age, why not just fucken phon the person, who’s time you are wasting, by texting, dohhhhhhh.
or hey, maybe even a suicide note to his lover.
Holy crap! Life Sucks found his spacebar!! ^
Wow, StirfryJones, you aren’t the person that nearly walked into the van, are you? 😉
Nope, I’m not, Raph. And, in fact, a person nearly crashed into me just this evening as he was “busy” screwing with his phone and not paying attention While this annoyed me, had he been heading toward a moving vehicle I would have said something. I am not a piece of shit. It’s that simple.
I’ve always believed that texting is the beginning of the end of the world.
I agree, Dino. I love how those of us who actually pay attention when walking are the ones who need to ‘watch out’ for the ‘texters’. Because it’s MY fault if they walked into ME, because I was paying attention and should have moved!
You’re right, nm, the looks on their faces are priceless!!
Stirfry, I’m glad I’m not the only one who actually seems to care whether people live or die in this city. 😛 I know I’ve been guilty of the walk-and-text, but I do so with great care, looking up every second or two and never texting while doing something dangerous like crossing a street or on a busy sidewalk. I’ve never had a ‘close call’ but I hope that if I’m ever in that kind of situation, there would be someone there to warn me before I’m a bloody mess on the sidewalk.
i like texting myself but i try ntot o walk and do it
I’m totally guilty of texting and walking. I always do it, but it’s usually emailing and walking – as in I should be in the office, but I’m emailing from my blackberry. A device which has given me the freedom to leave my office when I choose, but only if I’m the one texting while walking. I know it’s wrong when I do it, but sometimes I have to dash off a quick email and the idea of stopping and sitting everytime defeats the purpose of leaving the office in the first place. (yes, I’m aware that I’m a loser). I really do try to keep an eye on the sidewalk at the same time. I think I’ve become rather good at it. and I NEVER cross the street while doing so. That’s just craziness.
