I drive in bumper to bumper every day down Chebucto Road. I can’t get over the people in their 20s with their heads down looking at their knees. It is, as, or more dangerous to drive while texting than while drinking! Let alone at rush hour in HRM. Can’t help but notice the nice cars they’re driving, perhaps not enough respect for mommy and daddy’s car? You’re all on notice. I’m taking license plates and reporting from now on. If I was swerving drunk you’d report me. —Flabbergasted in traffic

  1. I dunno, I think sitting for five minutes, not moving in traffic and texting is a little different than going say 50 in a school zone or 120 on a highway and texting. How are you any better, looking intently into other people’s cars rather than watching the road that you claim they’re not looking at either? And then you’re going to have a paper, pen, and cell phone in hand as well, ready to jot down their plate numbers and call the police? Oookay. Don’t get me wrong, texting while driving is in my opinion, worse than drunk driving as well but I don’t think sitting, stuck in traffic and texting is anything for you to lose focus over ;D.

  2. well o.p., at least someone will know at what point of text they got smashed in. the cops should make it a mandatory death sentence, for antone caught texting/talking on cell, while driving. i would be the first to volunteer for job of executioner in these cases. and no long lenghty court battles either.
we could actually call it, “culling of the nerds”.

  3. Not that I agree with texting while driving. But that’s awfully presumptuous of you assuming that just because someone is looking down they are texting. While you are looking for wrong-dooers your not exactly watching the road either now are you?

  4. paiy, that looks like the chick i saw awhile back that i was here talking about, in another thread.

  5. I like the ones who put their cell phone in their hands on the steering wheel. People are just dumb. Bluetooth devices are not expensive, and there’s no one that damn important that you need to risk your life and other drivers’ lives with a text.

  6. If you’re sitting at a light and it’s known to be long, I’d expect some people to check their phone for txts…
single moms wondering if babysitter is reaching out to her… people with relatives in the hospital….

I know it’s illegal (I’ve seen people get fined for it as I was walking home) but not that harmless… and FAR more harmless than if they were sitting there drinking…

it’s WHILE they’re driving that I take issue with.
Much harder to police… but then common sense usually is.

  7. Some woman almost hit my kids’ schoolbus due to her texting. She probably would have gotten the worst of it but it was still frustrating. I should have called the police.

  8. I had a driver charged on New Years eve. I was walking with the family on the sidewalk and noticed the car coming in our direction – the driver (older guy too) had his head down and was looking at his lap. I said to the missus that he must be on a phone. Sure enough as he drove past, he had both thumbs working away on a phone in his lap. God help him or anyone that ever hits my 2 year old because they can’t pay ANY attention to driving!

The other day at a busy intersection I was in the lane beside a lady eating a box of Asian noodles with a fork (no hands left for driving)! I got her attention and asked her if she though that’s a good idea to do while driving, she replied with a smug “I suppose so”….Fucking idiots all over the place.

And I’d be the one to be crucified if I have a beer somewhere and drove home……

  9. I feel less and less safe while riding a bike nowadays, a driver could put me in the ditch and not even know it.

  10. Yeah, I saw that one, PG, but between it being an enactment (so people might not take it seriously) and the audible snapping of the girl neck (stomach lurch), I skipped it.

  11. If your not moving, who cares.
I answer my phone at red lights.
I make it clear i’m at a set of lights & if they change…it’s quick to say gotta go & hang up.
I don’t believe those stupid immitation Borg implants you see all these presumptuous SOB’s wear is any different than talking on the phone while driving. I talk into a hand set, I talk into a micro phone…its the SAME DAMN THING, your distracted by the conversation. IF they’re going to make it illegal to talk on the damn phone it should be IMO ,any way at all -period- texting while driving should be treated as seriously as drinking & driving as well. With the same penalties, years loss of driving privledges etc.

  12. My nephew (in his 20s) got nailed for texting and driving just before Christmas. Not only did he get a hefty fine but his insurance more than doubled. That’s one down, 93,478 to go.

  13. Hmm…. I’m so old school that I still turn the radio down if I’m looking for a street address…

  14. i am going to put one inside and one on the door. i wasn’t sure if you needed me to print more. i have everything in an envelope with your name on it if i’m not at the shop^^

  15. You rock Pain-pal! Haven’t heard back from the ‘bosses’ about printing, but if we need you, we’ll throw some cash your way for ink and paper costs! Thanks a million again!

  16. TTFN, my neighbor just got his license back for DUI. He lost it for a year, got a fine. He told me his insurance for the next 5 years is going to be $5000.00 per year & that’s only if he doesn’t get in an accident or face ANY traffic infractions bigger than a parking ticket !
I presently pay just over 1200.00 for my work truck, & its listed as that & my little car per year, & that’s full coverage.
SO 5 grand is a pretty steep expense. Which you don’t hear about IMO often enough, perhaps if people realised the insurance nazi’s are gonna get you if you break any laws…which begs the question , how can they penalize you, when that falls under our constitution as the job of a judge under our legal system ?!??

  17. I actually regret buying a car because of the texting twats and road ragers and the list goes on.

What happen before the cell phone era? Oh we had to pay attention to the road and our surroundings. Those were the good old days.
