There have been teen suicides due to cyber bullying appearing frequently over the news recently. The province has also just announced the fruition of a special ‘task force’ to deal with cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is not a new phenomenon; it has been a part of some teenagers’ lives since they were old enough to use a computer or cell phone. My question is, why now are the teen suicides ‘prompting’ the province to form a ‘special’ task force to deal with cyber bullying? Don’t get me wrong, I am extremely glad that the province has finally stepped into action, but what were they waiting for? The number of teens committing suicide to pass a certain number? After the very first suicide due to cyber bullying came to the province’s attention, they then should have been ‘prompted’ to create this task force. How many lives could have been saved had the government been ‘prompted’ into action sooner? —Just A Student

  1. JAS, do you have an idea how long it takes a government committee to recognize, address, discuss, and develop an action plan, for a problem?

Be glad that’s it has been done (not acomplished), in your lifetime.

  2. doing yourself in, takes one fucking lot of guts. most people, no matter how far pushed, back out at last minute. only those with unstable mentalities, usually wind up suicides. look it up.

  3. I hate the term “cyberbullying” so fucking much. Mostly because there’s no commonly agreed on definition for it. IMO, if someone you know IRL is being a douchebag towards you on the internet, that’s cyberbullying. If it’s some random person you don’t know, it’s just simple trolling, which is as old as the internet itself. /rant

  4. we should spend less time protecting these kids that are getting bullied and more time repremanding the ones causing all the shit. the little bastards are getting away with everything these days because they’re young. so fucking what.

New Motto: You do the crime, you do the time. I don’t care how old you are. If you beat someone sensless, you obviously know what you’re doing weather you’re 13 or 23.

  5. The bridge has at least one a week….and has for a very long time. The media doesn’t report it though. Although one slipped through 2 weeks ago in the news when the body was spotted in the water off Bishops’ Landing…..then the story was dead and covered up.

  6. Since when has the government addressed anything in a timely fashion? The wonder is that this issue was addressed at all. “Task Force” does not automatically equal action. Just means it is being looked into. The results of what is determined remain to be seen.
