I am a driver in Dartmouth and just found out how the new fares are to be implemented. Remember the new rates are decided by CITY COUNCIL and NOT CAB DRIVERS.
Bridge Toll:
Currently bridge fares are charged to the customer both ways. The new system will only allow us to charge one way and we have to take the loss on the return trip. Since the driver has to accept the extra cost we will be looking for some way to reduce that. Suggestion is to leave it up to the customer to decide which way they prefer to cross the harbour—bridge toll both ways ($1.60 if using Mac Pass) or around the basin
($15.00 +/-).
Cab Fare:
New rate is set at $0.13/? distance. A fare may now end in pennies being exchanged. This after the federal government is trying to eliminate those coins. Will expect customers to have the extra pennies. Should a customer not want to pay the full amount drivers have the right to have police involved.
Common sense says that a rate of $0.15 would make every thing easier.
Should anyone have concern about the new rates remember it’s council that makes the final decision. Feel free to contact them. —CD

Its council that makes the decision, your the one bitching about their decision. You got a raise and still find something to complain about. How many fares do you get in a day that take a round trip across the bridge? Remember I said round trip, not just one way. One, maybe two fares a day at best? I can take the bus for the amount of change your complaining about. If the penny is taken out of circulation the fare would be rounded to the closest knickle. That would work to your advantage at least half the time and make up for the loss of it being rounded down the other half of the time.
Ummm, yes I have taken a number of cabs this week and NOT ONE driver charged me the .01
Suck it up like we did.
Whatever … quit money grubbin and trying to whine for more tips. Your tip money is included in the fare asshole. Before I even get into your cab the timer is already ticking away to upwards of 5 bucks. Furthermore your rude dispatchers and lateness is unexcusable. I have waited 2 hours for cabs to show up and they get away with it because of the taxi monopoly. You don’t like Bobs, it’s not like you have any other choice. Well fuck you, “don’t eat yellow snow” – that’s your tip, bitch!
1- pick up a fare for the trip back !
problem 1 solved.
2- charge 13 cents a distance fee…after the total has been figured & say it comes to $11.61 or $11.62, charge them a rounded down total of $11.60
if for example it is $11.63 or $11.64 charge them $11.65 ! problem 2 sloved
PS- I understand from yer bitch, why you drive a cab. If you have never heard the one about someone not being “the sharpest spoon in the drawer” maybe you might want to do a bit of research on that
o.p., i thought most of the drivers voted against a rate hike. they told me that it cuts down on ridership. i took a cab from joe howe stupid store today, and it cost me 5.70, up from 4.80 or so.
You know what OP. Hear’s a big ole cup of Shut the Fuck Up.
Taxi drivers in this city are the worst, most inconsiderate, aggresive driving FuckTards there is.
If I’m ever lucky enough to actually have a cab pull over when I need one, half the time you don’t speak english, and the other half I have to give you direction through the city!
So, here it is Cab Drivers of Halifax. If you want everyone to consider a little compassion for you? Start considering a little compassion for everyone else.
Or, if you can’t make a living on what you’re doing. Think of something else to do and do that.
So council is screwing you and there’s no easy way for you to screw us even harder? Oh gee, let me play the world’s tiniest violin for you.
If I contact council it’ll be to thank them for once.
My experience with cabs has mostly been horror rides/lousy drivers and in my opinion most are either half drunk or high. I used to take cabs home from having a few drinks since I won’t drive when drinking but most times they drove like maniacs and scared the shit out of me. I think they were drunk.
a cab fare of .13 is .1495 after HST is added. So if you charging HST, the .15 fee already exists.
as for the mac pass fee to cross empty…..wtf…… you want the customer to pay for the gasoline and cigarettes to return, too?
Hmmm.. First counsel gives themselves pay increases as soon as they hit office because they cut a few jobs so instead of putting that money into the city, they pocketed it.
Second, they changed some rules so they have a tighter grip on the city (the whole fiasco with St Pats school is one of them).
Third from what I hear, HRM property tax is going up.
Fourth, most of their campaign donations came from large corporations like Dexter Construction so the other construction companies will not get any work from HRM so to me that’s a “Legal” bribe, in additional to the other donations.
Now the cab fare has been increased, by counsel mind you, who aren’t driving any cabs to benefit from it. People do certain things for their own benefit so the only logical explanation left is that they own shares in those companies, same as most of the Utility and Review Board owns shares in NS Power according to an inside source.
Just a thought!
