Quit nagging me asking if I’ll drive you to work. Why should I drive out of my way to pick you up? I know you’re cheap. Each time you ask me “Could I get a ride with you?” you never add on “I’m willing to contribute towards gas.” Do you think my car runs on air? Do you think the bridge toll accepts smiles as payment? Well they don’t. You can bitch and complain all you want at work about how I won’t pick you up, but they all know the same things I do about you. You choose to use public transit, so accept the consequences when they go on strike. See you at work… if you ever arrive. —Not a Free Taxi

  1. Have you ever asked for gas & toll money? If you haven’t, it might be a start. If you have and have been refused, then … and only then … valid bitch.

  2. I hate mooches. All the people who asked for rides with me have offered gas money. They’re all on the way and/or work with me so I didn’t really take them up on it, but at least they offered! (and are on the way).

Did you tell them they’d have to contribute? Both of the people I’m taking actually said they’d be ready to pick up right on my route instead of going to their house. One drives in, parks in my visitor parking and we take her from there. Maybe tell them that if they give you $$$ for gas and meet you somewhere that’s not out of your way, you’d be ok with picking them up.

  3. Yeah, I get this b!tch …. pedestrian crowd figure their mobile friends are willing to go out of their way to pick them up and drive them somewhere …..

I have a friend who often called to ask “want to go to the mall tonight?” Like, never do I want to go to a fucking mall ……. but, should I want something I would respond … sounds great and the walk will be healthy for us both in this crisp air. This person starts to whine as to why I don’t want to drive …….. by the end of it they say forget it as they do not want to walk………. see, they wanted ME to drive them around and do their errands …….. hahahaha.

Perhaps move closer to the mall or buy a vehicle.

  4. Fool on the Hill…
I don’t think that logic stands.

If you’re asking for a service, a favor basically… you should be the one offering incentive.
Do you think I WANT to drive out of my way AND pay for it all myself?
Why the hell would anyone want to do that?
You want to inconvenience ME… YOU give me a fucking reason I should WANT to help you.

  5. Do what many other drivers are doing then. Charge a fee for driving them to and from work. There is a transit strike going on after all. I’m sure many are thinking about charging a fee to help people out till the buses are back. Quit being a dick/bitch and do what most others will do in the current situation.

  6. @dawn that sound kinda like i am feeling for transits union right now. You want me inconvenience myself by going to one of you picket lines? Your being a huge inconvenience to me give me a reason WHY i should help you? And no saying that i wouldn’t be able to choose 100% what hours i work anymore is not a real reason

  7. I agree with it costs to run a vehicle , so I see NO PROBLEM in saying I want a couple of bucks for the ride… say 5.00 a day & half the bridge fare. Unless its really out of the way, IMO that seems fair.
If you are too poor to afford that, take it out in trade.
    For example;
What are blow jobs costing these days, from a working girl ?
I’ve been in a relationship for awhile & I haven’t been keeping track, but surely theres a way to figure out a fair deal for all involved ~;)

  8. They don’t want to walk, too cheap for cabs, and think they can find a sucker. I bought a car for me to use, not you. I pay for the gas, insurance, and maintenence, so why should you ride for free. If you want to car pool or whatever, I shouldn’t have to tell you to pay me, you should be offering.

  9. the ‘choosing shifts’ issue is kinda moot from what I heard on the (stupid fucking) radio this morning… there was an offer on the table to let them keep their current system and then flat out turned it down without a vote.

I’m not even sure WHAT the sticking points are at this time.
I know I’d put in a demand that the heating on the buses not just be ‘on or off’ as I’ve been told they are. all I know is I’ve yet to ever get on a metro bus and think… “wow, it’s too cold in here.” They’re ALL…. ALWAYS too fucking warm.

  10. @Zed. I get where you’re coming from. My point was that sometimes people just don’t clue into how their actions are perceived by others. Their actions mightn’t be due to anything nastier than cluelessness on their part. I’m the first to admit I’ve overlooked things & have made mistakes simply because I wasn’t completely tuned into the station, so to speak. It happens.

  11. Maybe you’re just a furnace, zed? heh.

Ummm I read about the two contract offers last night. 3.5% and they choose their shifts, 6% and they don’t choose their shifts. Both weren’t even taken to the membership.

I really don’t get what the fuck the deal is now. 1.5-2% is usually what most unions settle for (and is considered decent), and 3.5% isn’t enough even with the ‘contention point’ (the shift thing) cleared up?

There’s GOT to be more to it….. because if there isn’t and it is what it seems to be on the surface, there’s def some greediness goin’ on.

    WTF is up?

  12. Apparently Uncommon Grounds is giving away FREE COFFEE to people who are carpooling (at least 3 people in a car). I don’t know how they would police that though. I don’t imagine they would have the time to have someone stand outside and monitor cars instead of making food/coffee.

  13. I personally think there should be a lot more transparency when negotiating contracts for certain groups (e.g. transit and healthcare workers). The city could do with a lot more in transparency in general, really.

  14. PK, I heard the issue now is 70 other changes or something the city wanted to make… like I guess they started out with 200 changes and dropped it down to 70.. I don’t know. It’s all so irritating, I just want to know who to direct my anger at and right now it seems to be the union. They had a few of these “big issues” that were all dropped and now it’s still not enough?

I’m starting to think the union rep, Ken something, is a big douche. He says that “there’s no bargaining” going on. How did the big issues get resolved then? Did they just randomly decide to drop them for absolutely no reason? And why does he keep saying bus drivers work for 12 hours, for 8 hours pay? To me that says they work for free for four hours a day, 20 hours a week, 40 hours a paycheque. Who the hell does that?! I know they work split shifts, so are there four hours where they’re not actually working? Why is that counted? Four hours is a long time to have a break and do some things, see some people. Can someone explain that to me, maybe I just don’t understand.

  15. mel, it was in the paper yesterday…
they offer the coffee and can track because you sign up on a sheet, who you are and where you’re going and when…
then if people are wanting to go with you, they sign up.
Once you have 3 people to take, they give you a coffee.
Presumably, you all meet at the coffee place so I assume that’s when you get the coffee.

and they don’t ‘work’ 12 hours for 8 hours pay…
they leave at home in the morning and 12 hours later they arrive home having only worked 8 hours total. the extra 4 hours is theirs to use, but because of the route scheduling, it’s scattered throughout the day.

  16. Just say to this person, I will take your bus fare to and fro daily…and that way you’re guaranteed at least 5 bucks/day toward your gas. But if you hate this person or its out of your way, then just tell them to eat a dick.

  17. PK you are the resident expert on collective bargaining, why don’t you enlighten us a little on what’s going on. After all, with the bravado with which you defended them yesterday, surely you can’t withdraw your support now, or were you talking out your ass and just DEAD WRONG?

  18. it’s trying times like this, when seb wants you to buy a car from his people. was that consider gay bashing, hope not. his people are car dealers, duh.
