I’m really tired of getting tons and tons of job interviews but when I finally go in they rush and later tell me I’m not qualified. Even in shitty fast food places. I know why, because there’s no way with 10years experience working kitchens that I’m ‘under qualified’ and what it actually comes to is tattoos. Face tattoos. Now don’t get me wrong I always get the job when it’s back kitchen stay, all back of kitchens are filled to the T with fully tattooed chefs/cooks but it’s when I apply for front staff or joints you do it all, my 10year overly qualified resume is ‘not qualified’ for even a mm easy AF food service in the mall. I’m tired of discrimination like that, it’s 2016, everyone and their grandmother is tatted but when it comes to face tattoos it’s completely taboo. Im tired of working the line when I know I could thrive in front end service, having face tattoos does not mean I’m not ‘approachable’ or effect the quality of service recived. I’m a good worker, and excel in every work related opportunity, so why can’t employers realize that putting a tattooed face behind the counter WILL NOT effect the rise or drop of cliental it’s the service recived and quality of product that makes for a returning satisfied customer. #DontHoldMeBack —Unqualified

It’s your fault for getting a tattoo and ruining your chances of a costumer service job. Also, it’s 2016 is just an excuse for shitty people to do shitty things, grow the fuck up kid.
That does suck, and sure people should be more mature about tattoos, but you also need to realize there is a big portion of this population (I can’t speak for places like Toronto) that is really old fashioned and tattoos on your face = ex convict or gang member to them. Personally I don’t care if you’ve got tats on your face, but it’s the baby boomers that these companies pander to, not the next generations.
I will never understand why people would tattoo their face *shaking my head*
When I see face tattoos, two questions come to mind:
How much time have you done, and what for?
Have you tried applying for cooking jobs at local detention centers/penitentiaries?
Only an idiot would tattoo his/her face and expect to get a customer service job ‘outside the wall’.
Actually, I should shorten that statement, only an idiot would get a face tattoo period.
How’s Mike Tyson doing these days?
Moron.
Studies have actually been done to see if things like attractiveness, gender, how people speak etc affects how people rate service, likability etc. And sorry for your luck but people do judge a book by its cover and form an impression within like thirty seconds of meeting someone.
When someone is hiring you they are not just hiring you for your skill. You represent their company. You put a face to it. You represent the type of clientele they want to attract. For example, a high-end clothing store will not hire a haggard toothless women to work there. Their wealthy clientele would not shop there. And the company is there to make money.
I get that tattoos are a personal choice and that many people see it as art. But not everyone does. Maybe that will change one day but in the meantime either live with your ill thought out choices or get them removed.
Just another SET blaming society for the consequences of their stupid mistakes.
Next.
What is SET, am curious?
I think it depends on the face tattoo, really. If you have a tear drop, as Willie said, then you are probably an idiot. But if you have a tribal design you could definitely qualify for second-in-command of a starship. (NOTE: You may have to spend a few years fighting a 2 front war with the Federation and the Cardassians as a prerequisite).
Having worked in corrections, I encountered a lot of face tattoos. Devil horns were the most memorable. Tear drops are associated with murder. It was hard to look beyond these tattoos to see the real person; once you were able to do that, it was interesting to see the person inside.
It’s taken over 50 years for the gay community to get to where we are at now; and we don’t have face tattoos…
Face tattoos, body modification or whatever shouldn’t affect how people interact or interpret you but for now, they do. Don’t give in.
You fucked up. Deal.
The Windsor Ex is coming up, head there and see if you can be taken on as a carny.
In all fairness, though, I know a woman with teardrops and a few other things, in her 40’s or so, and she’s the nicest person I could meet. So just keep on keeping on, best of luck to you.
Your problem will NOT go away. Self expression is lovely but not when it becomes detrimental to your success. Save the tats for places they can be covered when necessary.
Laser tattoo removal works. Try it. You future self will thank you.
@Ho!st.
SET = Self Entilted Tw@t
An LTWWBism coined first by TJ902, if I recall correctly.
Face tattoos are a choice, just like employers picking their employees.
Now you are learning the consequences of making bad decisions.
SET would be mine.
OP, the tattoo on your face is not a disability. You can still do the job, and you can still find the job.
Clearly, you need to suck it up, and work harder at finding a place that will hire you. You know what challenges you are facing,so deal with it.
I agree with oceanchick. You can either be busy making a stand or busy making a life. The choice is yours.
A cautionary tale if I ever saw one. The world has changed much over the years and continues to change slowly – for better and worse – but it’s still an inescapable fact that we all live in the current era. We all need to be aware of the existing reality, make decisions accordingly, and live with the consequences of our decisions.
A few friends of mine have face tats. Here is a list of where they work:

All I did was write how stupid looking dudes with tear drop tattoos appear. Why was that comment deleted? The moderator for these comment sections is way to sensitive. Sorry “the coast” for hurting your delicate sensibility.
I work construction. Nobody gives a fuck about your tats on the job site. If you don’t mind working hard, you might want to look into that. You can’t really honestly believe that you can have a bunch of nonsense inked on your face and still have your pick of service jobs.
Not everyone is under 45.
Sorry if I don’t want to look at a heavily tattooed face day in and day out. It would also make me question the wisdom of a person who would deface themselves in such a manner. Even by today’s standards, you’ve made yourself virtually unemployable. That symbolic shit that was so meaningful when you were 20 will look fucking stupid when you’re an old wrinkly.
tattoo: permanent solution to temporary expression.
