A pointless photo-op to announce your continued interest in an over-budget fighter aircraft?

$47,000.00.

The 8×10 glossy of same that you keep on your night table to lull you into fantasy land every night?

Priceless.

Hang on tight to that picture. It may be all there is in the end. Can you spell “cancellation”?

Suck it long. Suck it hard. —I Was Inverted

  1. Let’s see, the Cons have 3 more years of their majority, so, despite their estimable track record at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, I’d say cancellation is probably not in the cards. However, it’s always possible that they might just change their minds.
I can only hope that this does turn out to be the proper technology to perform the tasks that the government have given our military. You see, nobody has yet been given a mandate to abrogate our international responsibilities to both N.A.T.O. and N.O.R.A.D., not to mention defense of our own sovereignty. Nobody has yet decided that D.N.D is to be replaced by a 1-800 answering machine repeating “WE SURRENDER” in Russian, Danish and Pashto. So, some kind of multi-role combat aircraft is going to be purchased. It just remains to be seen whether our military are saddled with an expensive piece of new technology or a slightly less expensive piece of dated technology. Who knows, we may actually get the proper aircraft for the job. It’s happened a couple of times in the last 100 years. >; )

Terrific read. From the late 40’s to the late 60’s British designers were coming up with some real innovative , world-beating stuff only to have government funding pulled. Literally, an Avro Arrow fiasco every election.

  3. Did you VOTE?

    No votey; no complainy…

I am so sick of hearing complaints about Steve and his cronies.

Look. If you didn’t vote, you have no right to complain.

If you voted for Stevie, you have no right to complain.

If you voted for the Green or an other associated nonsense-type Party, you have no right to complain.

  4. I would have rather he had spent the money on Canadian Hookers & booze, than waste it in sitting a stupid pretend airplane to get his picture taken !
He’s like my kids were when
I would take them to the Shearwater airshow & you could let them sit in the pilot seats…OF REAL fighter aircraft….oh wait ,on second thought I guess its not really like that at all, pretend as opposed to reality.

  5. We’re a rich country. No reason we can’t have hookers, booze AND fighter jets. And how about pumping some money back into Shearwater, get the runways back up to fixed wing standard and have real Airshows again.

  6. and lo, in the fantasy land of ottawa, there was a young prince, who dreamed of becoming a king. but the old lion of a king knew his plans, and bushwhacked the young prince, at every turn.
then out of theastern regions, came a dour old civil servant, and told the king, yes we need these things, shortly there after there started an inhouse revolt, of sorts.
the old king spake ill of the easterner, and said that there will never be any bounty cast to your shores. the people were sore afraid of a big flotilla going away, that they bowed to the king, and did kiss his bbacksides with glee and delight.
and so it came to pass, that the eat, never did get their handshake of gold, nor ottawa prince his mighty force of the skies, and all the people cried for atonement. but the old king laughed and said that he was to be emporer for life, his rules, like it or lump it. the end.

  7. I’m going to challenge MacKay to a Coal Miner Glove Match at a Grand Prix Wrestling show.

  8. sorry people, should have been east in last part, and they never did live happily ever after.

  9. I really have nothing against purchasing fighter jets to protect Canadian sovereignty. I think it’s a wise investment. Just so long as we’re not using them at the American’s behest to bomb the shit out of some Middle Eastern country to protect oil reserves. Funny how all the “bad” people tend to be in oil producing nations. Western nations got together to intercede in Iraq and Libya (oil) because of their tyrannical leaders and what they were doing to their citizens. Syria, Somalia and the Sudan (no oil) same deal. Where’s the Western military action there?

  10. I have no useful comment related to the point of your bitch. But I giggled when I read “I Was Inverted”. hehe 🙂

I’m going to have to watch that movie again this weekend. Thank you.

  11. Sudan and Somalia don’t merely have nothing worth taking; they have nothing worth bombing so using air-power against them would be kind of like the police calling in a missile strike to end a domestic dispute.
I’d have no objections to a Western air campaign against Syria if the end result was Assad being hauled out of a sewer pipe with a leatherman tool shoved up his shit canal. But that would lead to the inevitable confrontation with Iran and I don’t quite think the West is ready for that. Yet.
Saudi, Kuwait & Yemen. Their turn will come. Insh ‘allah

  12. “Just so long as we’re not using them at the American’s behest to bomb the shit out of some Middle Eastern country to protect oil reserves.”

    that’s what drones are for…
well that and spying on farmers.

  13. Good ideas like that don’t have price tags when spending someone elses money. Justified!!!

PS: OB, love the title and tag, lol.

  14. So the opposition parties are down so low that this is the thing they are bitching about? It’s not like the Liberals never wasted money on their garbage or cancelling helicopters or buying junk submarines or photo ops.

  15. Roger that , Tim. At least McKay knows which part of an aircraft is the front.

Personally, I’d love to see the M.SM. apply the same proctoscopic investigative research to what the final cost of canceling the EH-101 was. Don’t low-ball it boys. I want you to factor in the costs of keeping the Sea Kings for another 2 decades. And yeah, the whole sub purchase fiasco. How much was that supposed to cost us. At least nobody died, because Petey wanted to play Maverick for a day.
