Hello Haligonians,
This was intended for cyclists like myself, but it also applies to pedestrians, and I guess motorists (the good ones). I commute from Windsor Street, Halifax, to Main Street, Dartmouth, and back, 4 days a week. 19kms round-trip, 45-60 minutes, with about 12 minutes of bullshit.
The bridge, sucks.
North street, sucks.
Ochterloney, Prince Albert, Main Street, suck suck suck.
I could rant about nearly getting killed or maimed on a daily basis, but those of you who know what I’m talking about, feel my pain. Also, do you really think your average motorist reads The Coast? I think not, so why address a dear Jane/John letter to someone who’s never going to read it?
Here’s what you can do, as I do:
When someone breaks the law, report their ass. The police non-emergency number is 490-5016. Have the make and model of the vehicle, a description of the driver, what happened and where and when, and the license plate. If it is serious enough, they will send an officer to their home. If it’s serious enough to press charges, you can. And you should.
At the very least, when a walker/cyclist doesn’t have my awesome car-evading reflexes, and a motorist kills them blowing a crosswalk on a red-light, they’ll have a previous record/report of shit-ass driving, and they’ll be sent to prison, where they belong.
There is no such thing as a car accident. My life is worth more than someone getting to the next red light and line of cars faster than the car behind them.

please use this same number for reporting rule-phobic cyclists as well…bet you can’t wait till they have plates too, then the HRP will be able to fund themselves on biking related Motor-Vehicle violations. Not saying drivers aren’t pricks themselves, just tired of bikers ranting about how they are so innocent and some big bad driver cut them off…failing to mention they flew on to the road from a crosswalk.
Are you trying to say that only cyclists and pedestrians read the coast? Why not your “average motorist”?? Because if your bitch is any indication of who reads the coast….then we must all be smoking CRACK!
Just for the record I read the Coast and I would consider myself an average motorist as in I drive a car on a regular basis.
mmm Cyclists drive me nuts because they can’t accelerate as fast as my car. But I am a cyclist too and hate riding with all the idiot drivers in Halifax. I wish they would just make a bike lane! I’d feel safer on my bike and feel better in my car that I won’t hit anyone on a bicycle its rather nerve racking because you know if you hit them they have no protection except a helmet!
Hey, I resent that. I read the Coast and I drive, hey, I actually drive in a day what you bike in a week! Fuck off.
