Hang ten, HRM, because according to the twitterfeed and a local Facebook page a surfing apparel company is currently planning on hosting its Cold Water Classic event in Nova Scotia this fall and has requested $200,000 from Halifax Regional Municipality. HRM has pre-approved to fund the event with $145,000 (coincidentally the event’s prize money—a requirement to be sanctioned by the ASP World Tour). We’re on the hook supporting a private business.
