Oh my gahd, drunk self: you suck. I just want to write it out to you that it’s not okay to shake hands with strangers and simultaneously accuse them of being closed off. It’s not okay to dance so hard that others are sore and it’s not okay to turn green with rage when your partner’s mood shifts. Drunk self: I’m embarrassed of you. You’re not charming, and you’re not fair. You’re not a little bit funny. You’re the worst, and I’m super done with you. To the perfectly decent people I probably insulted in some shitty way or another on the weekend: I am sorry. I am sucky. —Sobering Jo

  1. Why do certain people turn into such assholes when they drink?
I am sure there is a psych major out there that can add their unlimited wisdom to this.

  2. On the positive side alcohol lowers inhibitions and allows us to simply relax and be more sociable. On the negative side, it allows some to give free rein to their festering frustrations and insecurities.

Anyone I know of who is/was an alcoholic or drug addict had an underlying problem and was self medicating. If we could get rid of all stigma around mental health treatment I’m sure that we could greatly reduce the incidence of alcoholism and drug addiction.

The OB’s behaviour sounds relatively minor at this point except for the “turning green with rage” part which is a bit of a red flag. Maybe they should do some soul searching and have a long talk with their partner. It wouldn’t hurt to clear the air.
