I don’t get where our current government gets off taking from those who have little or nothing to give. I’m talking about those who have to depend on provincial Income Assistance to survive and who are now being cut and slashed by this budget decision. It’s wrong and should be stopped. If you have to pay out compensation packages for past wrongs, get the fucking money from the better-off among us who can afford it, not take it from the poorest of the poor.. Enjoy your time in power because you won’t get in next time. The poor among us are also voters and you can bet they won’t support anyone who won’t support them. It’s high time governments everywhere stop preying on the most vulnerable citizens in society and, if anything, do more to ensure they get what they need. Fuck the conservative-minded taxpayers and their hatred and prejudice of those who have to depend on government handouts. Pray you don’t find your sorry ass in the same boat. If you do, then you’ll understand. —Tired Of Government Slashing

Well now, welfare was not cut; only if you’re a recipient of film welfare, that is.
And the larger problem is that the poor don’t vote, along with a number of others.
If you didn’t vote, no complaining for you!
CUT & SLASHED
“I’m talking about those who have to depend on provincial Income Assistance to survive and are now being cut and slashed by this budget decision.” Tired of Government Slashing
Two questions: (1) What budget are you talking about, the federal or the provincial? Assuming the former since it was brought down yesterday, just how is the federal Employment Insurance program related to the provincial “Income Assistance?”
(2) In any case, no mention is made in the federal budget of any “cutting and slashing” of Employment Insurance. Could you specify, giving an exact dollar amount?
A pleasure as always,
Cheerio!
Are you talking about those who actually need assistance? Those who are handicapped or ill or are you talking about those who either get knocked up or too lazy to work or think it is their right to do nothing and get paid? As for voting, I doubt many get off their asses and exercise their right to vote. Maybe there would be more money for welfare if those who abused it were cut off.
The prov. budget froze payments. With inflation this effectively reduces the purchasing power of the benefits.
Having been in a similar situation I can empathize with having feelings of powerlessness. OB, the only way out is to try to improve your education and skills. Try to take more control of your life if you can.
In the bigger picture, many conservative and liberal thinkers agree that the best approach in the long term might be a guaranteed annual income that shifts spending from the bureaucracy to the poor: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/12/23/minimum-income-basic-income_n_6370458.html
first off, OB, fuck you. Sit on the social welfare teat and SUCK away huh? Guess what. I paid 32k in income taxes to fund your free ride. On top of over 52k in EI premiums ive contributed that i can never EVER qualify for…so thats 52k ive invested into a pot with no return for me on that investment…just seasonal workers sucking that dry as well. heres some enlightenment(and any social welfare appologists, fuck off too, before i enlighten) Mathematically, work can be expressed by the following equation.
W = F • d • cos Θ
where F is the force, d is the displacement, and the angle (theta) is defined as the angle between the force and the displacement vector. Perhaps the most difficult aspect of the above equation is the angle “theta.” The angle is not just any ‘ole angle, but rather a very specific angle. The angle measure is defined as the angle between the force and the displacement
There are potholes to fill, garbage to pick up on the streets, gardens to tend across the city/province etc….that can all be classified as work, and work id be willing to put my taxes toward paying wages if lazy fuckers like yourself OB would get off their asses and do it.
By the way, im wrecked physically(knees, back, shoulders, hips and neck) from hard work and i will NEVER ask or beg for assistance, ill just pop a few tylenol and drive my nose to the grindstone some more OUT OF PRINCIPAL!!
Austerity measures rarely ever worked in any government. You can’t cut back on costs and expect a province, whose major exports and imports all compete on such a high level that trying NOT to go with the economic flow only sends the community further into debt.
The comments above can claim it’s the poor’s fault for depending on welfare, which -might- have been a viable argument… Fifty years ago. Not so much, now. Strict regulations prevent low income people and families from taking much from the provinces budget. The problem stems from more than one source; blaming the poor is a shallow argument.
Most of the above comments are blowing hot air synonymous with Republican bitching. The hypocrisy is, most of us have benefited from communal finances payed though our taxes, and you have the audacity to stand there with a flag up your ass claiming ” I didn’t take as much money from the government as THAT guy over there did” just makes you look hilarious, and dumb.
All your money is going into Duffy bribes to keep the Alberta oil companies goin!
You are not middle class and therefore the Cons, Libs or Dippers don’t give a toss.
And Dexter wanted to delay a monthly welfare payments until April 1st so that the cost would show up in the next budget and he’d con voters into thinking he’d reduced spending. Not even the Cons would have dare think about such a trick, never mind putting it in a budget.
Why do socialists hate the poor and glorify the middle class ?
And that got cut off. Oh well.

BLOWING HOT AIR
“Austerity measures rarely ever worked in any government.” Any proof for that? Any examples? How rare is “rarely?” Don’t blow hot air.
Why wouldn’t cutting back on costs help competing with other major exports and imports? Can you explain that? Don’t blow hot air.
What does going with “the economic flow” mean? What is the current “economic flow” and how does going with it relate to the issue of the bitch, i.e., the (imaginary) reduction in Employment Insurance? Don’t blow hot air.
What are those “strict regulations” which prevent low income people and families from taking much from the present budget? Can you specify just what they are and how they do this? No one is “blaming the poor” for being poor. That is just your misunderstanding. Don’t blow hot air.
If the problem “stems from more than one source” how is it that you assign only one source to the problem, “blaming the poor.” Do you see contradiction here? Don’t blow hot air.
What do you mean by saying that “most of us have benefited from communal finances payed (sic) through our taxes?” Of course we have. That is what taxes are for, to benefit the general population. So what are you talking about? The general population is not drawing financial benefits. The general population is the source of those benefits. Don’t blow hot air.
Can you support your claim that most of the comments on this thread are just “blowing hot air?” Can you give examples? If not then you must be the one who is blowing hot air with the result that it just makes you look “hilarious and dumb.” So don’t blow hot air.
A pleasure as always,
Cheerio!
I have a feeling political leaders believe their ears when super wealthy business owners tell them they will create jobs if only they could avoid paying “all those taxes.”
Your “feelings” don’t count. Don’t blow hot air.
Heres a picture for you Anti Welfare, disposable cultured sheeples who think your toys and luxury items are so much more important then people having supper or a roof over their head or gasp clothing, My mother has to go on income assistance this month because my lousy father, her husband of over 20 years did not sign a paper so she could get her disability payments, Those would have come out of Mr 100k a years CPP payments, not your taxes, Since he didn’t sign, she has to wait SIX MONTHS! Luckily she just found out about the virtues of Divorce, alimony and legal aid and my cheapskate father is gonna lose 40 percent of his check a month almost forever.. We were a normal middle class family, my mother taught your kids sunday school and we made meals for hope cottage, Unfortunately the sunday school mom woke up one day and had a total mental breakdown and the family breadwinner met a bimbo and decided not to be a parent anymore, The world isn’t fair you idiots Just because you go to work and make all the right decisions doesn’t mean you can’t crash and burn, It happens all the time!, Yes people abuse income assistance, but most of them really are fucked in the head or can’t work and honestly how many people WANT to live on Income Assistance, Its like 850 bucks…. Hardly enough to pay the rent and groceries, and really, how is anyone supposed to get ahead when they can’t even afford decent food, If you really want to point fingers, Question Nova Scotia’s terrible programs for special needs kids, A lot of these Income Assistance people would be working at factories 40 years ago, School is hard for special needs people, and the system isn’t working to educate them which they have even admitted! The solution is more jobs! and I mean $15 a jobs that are worth working for! that don’t require a shit ton of schooling, This would solve crime problems, help the economy, get people off assistance but people are so damn cheap these days they will do anything to save money so they can spend it on more dumb crap they don’t need or use….. Lion and the Lamb bitches your all going to hell if there is one
UNSUPPORTED ASSERTIONS
Forget your “picture,” can you support your assertion about the Anti Welfare disposable cultured “sheeples” who think their toys and luxury items are so much more important than people having supper or a roof over their head or gasp clothing? Can you be specific? Can you name individuals who have claimed any such thing? And what does Nova Scotia’s “terrible program for special needs kids” have to do with anything? Focus your assertions. Otherwise, they’re just empty unsupported assertions.

@Luckery…nope…not at all. Everything I have, and recieve, is based on the taxes i pay. Last year alone i paid 32k in income taxes. JUST INCOME TAXES!! My wife works full time retail and makes 28k a year…so punish ME? im not even wealthy. Fuck, in order to satisfy job requirements and wife’s requirements, i had to buy a house in cole harbour…which is highly over assessed for value in order to pay extremely high property taxes on it as well. Then i dont even have a DITCH!! and im paying ditch and “right of way” taxes for WHAT? You can what if and what about all you like. hell, id even pay for a symposium for you to spout off about all the Ya Buts you could possibly think of….the fact of the matter is, that if you are ambitious enough, even when suffering from an ailment or handicap or whatever(self imposed or not) that there is plenty of money to be had, and only the TRULY needy need to make use of social assitance. I couldnt even qualify for student assistance for college or university because i made too much frigging MONEY to qualify. 3 jobs…3!!! quit appologizing for the lazy and the ones that are along for a free ride and shouldnt be.
Anyone who is paying 32k per year in income taxes has
a) a very nice annual income
b) lack of knowledge of how to legally reduce taxes paid on said income.
Perhaps Cuja should talk to an accountant.
annual income is from busting my ass, volunteering no matter what, EARNING the right to have a nice income. see the difference. And yet i get to be punished for that by abusers of a social assistance program. I submit my RRSP’s, have a pension plan as well, donate every year in the 1k range, but alas, i am a dual income, no kids household…so no leniency by the tax man. but lets say i have a say in how my taxes (i know, far fetched idea, but hang in there with me) i DONT want my taxes going toward propping up individuals who want to free load, abuse, or flaunt the system. I DONT want my taxes to go to helping fund an “artist” who needs government grants to do art projects(i know several people who get this) I DO want my taxes to go to infrastructure, roads, defence, NON-CORPORATE green energy initiatives etc etc. Oh, and if you are on social assistance, you better be taking extra time to give back to the community, especially when you get yourself off of it.
I think it’s important to have a good safety net. Given the right circumstances just about any of us could end up needing temporary support – such as a single person who is ill and not able to work or a person fleeing an abusive relationship.
The problem is that many of us know of someone who either could do some sort of work but instead “works” the system or who has become a ward of the system and given up trying. This can give the impression that there are scores of people abusing the benefits but I’m not really sure how prevalent this is. And I don’t know how we could ever decide who was worthy of as much help as possible versus who wasn’t bothering to try to better themselves – so we really have no choice but to have a universal benefit.
Ugh. Budget cuts. My two scents were made in when the UK attempted the same: http://leftfootforward.org/2015/03/austerity-can-never-work-heres-why/
In case you only glazed; Budget cuts only increase the deficit in the long run, but seeing the majority of comments, they’ll just blame the lazy poor on welfare again.
