Tonight it’s about 14 degrees and pissing rain yet the city parking Nazis and the police will be out tonight handing out tickets in droves, even though there is no possible chance of snow tonight. Fucking retarded! Even more retarded is a bunch of simpletons will reply to my post saying “well what if the temperature were to drop 20 degrees overnight and we have a blizzard?” I hear the sound of sheep baahing as we meekly hand over our hard earned cash for the stupidest parking ban in all of Canada… —The Master of Shame
This article appears in Dec 9-15, 2010.

Is this the first of many?? Or the second? They all blend. ‘Til the season of parking ban bitches! I think the ban should be managed better too – or at least applied to main streets, etc, etc…
They said on the radio this morning that police were turning a blind eye to parking violators because of how warm the weather is .
We all knew it was coming and we all had time to prepare….and it is Nova Scotia and as the saying goes…”wait 20 minutes and the weather will change”. So F-off OB.
Because we all know that driveways vanish in the winter months and fly down south. OP, you moved to your current location knowing full well if there was or wasn’t parking available, so don’t bitch when you get a ticket.
The parking ban is a necessary evil because if it happens to snow, the emergency vehicles and residents need to be able to safely drive on the street.
PS – parking your car on a sidewalk, or blocking a sidewalk will also get you a ticket.
I agree OP, it’s a failed policy that needs some re-work. I believe the reason it was implemented was to reduce the snow removal costs, which has ironically increased dramatically. No savings came from such policy.
The focus should be on main traffic arteries, the downtown cores, and maybe lengthen the distance you can park from an intersection. The rest of the side streets should work on a schedule somewhat like the street cleaners do.
Like RC alludes to “wait 20 mins….” Which begs the question; how many times do the plows waste time clearing show, only to have it melt away, naturally in a short time.
If HRM had a grasp on communication, you’d think they could find some middle ground; unfortunately a blanket ban is much easier and creates revenue for the city.
Other cities like Montreal have a completely workable plan that doesn’t fuck everyone; let’s face it HRM has become a profit center, and we citizens just keep letting them plow us up the keester with fees for everything. The parking ban could very easily be a parking arrangement, but noooo, LOOK AT THE MONEY WE MADE LAST YEAR, WUHOOO!
I’m surprised they haven’t yet thought of a permit for a Christmas tree.
and so it begins…
http://www.funnyreign.com/wp-content/uploa…
Other cities do have working models. It’s usually calendar parking where for the first half of the month you park on one side and then during the second half of the month you park on the other side. Everybody gets even treatment and the street is ably plowed. The difficulty is that, as usual, rules work only if everyone follows them.
And that’s usually why we get more and more rules because some fucktard thinks they’re superior, or oblivious, to the rules and fucks everything up.
Why would someone with a car live somewhere where there was no parking? The parking ban is not a secret, it is well advertised. Don’t want a ticket? Don’t park on the street.
Ok, so let’s say it is fair to argue that if you have a car you should probably go find a place that has a parking space. But what happens if you don’t have a car yourself but have guests from out of town, especially during the holidays? Do they get ticketed during the holidays? I am just curious.
First off I’m the OP, second of all I have a driveway, 3rd I was completely right the baa-ing sheep would all slam my post because well….you are sheep taking it up the ass here is the NSSR. I was trying to defend all the poor students on my street that live in houses divided into 3 or more suites with driveways for 1 car who are now completely fucked on nights where there is no snow. This ban would never fly in BC (where I’m from) because we would actually fight it rather than continue to take it up the ass. 14 degrees and rainy last night yet you stupid fucking parking ban apoloigsts think it’s fine to hand out $50 tickets rather than come up with a workable solution. Sadly most of the apologists seem to live on this site cause you have something to say on every post. To you losers – get a fucking life!
Fuck off, OP. Students can’t be too damn poor if you all have cars.
Does the fact that the winter parking ban is well advertised make it the only solution to snow removal? I have lived in Halifax for 18 years and don’t remember a rash of untreated injuries or deaths due to inadequate snow removal when the ban was for 24 hours after a snowfall. If anyone thinks that this is anything but a cash grab you are a complete fucking idiot!!!
No don’t have a driveway but I have little trouble finding somewhere close by to park my car.
i agree with balls and the devil
Here’s a thought: make sure parking is in your lease if you rent.
Years ago, you only had to move your car if there was a storm. People fucked up, and we now have a blanket ban. Thanks a lot people.
I agree with OP, the winter parking blanket ban doesn’t make sense, I know plows have to clear the roads when it snows, but there’s gotta be a better way, as described above. I share a car with my bf, we have a space, but there are 7 apartments here and only 6 good spots! the 7th “spot” is behind the building, blocked in by my car and the one next to me, so I will still have to work it out with them as to moving in the morning and at night because of this ridiculousness. Thought I was home free when I moved here!
And what about notsoNTH’s question about guests staying overnight? For the city to ticket with little to no snow at all is very unfair.
Again this city kills me! Shouldn’t have leased without a parking space, should know there’s a ban, fucking poor students shouldn’t have enough money to own cars. What a pathetic lot! You probably are all apologists when NS Power jacks your rates or the city and province ram a new un-needed convention centre here etc etc. Baa away all you pathetic sheep while you continue to shell out more in taxes, fees , fines etc than any other province in Canada. With the mindset here no wonder this is a have not province. Keep taking it up the ass cause I’ll keep complaining.
yeah o.p., abitch ain’t it, but remember that you live in n.s., where the weather can change in a heartbeat. the reason for the ban is an arbitrary one. they pick a time of year, that generally has snow, and stick with it. like when your insurance expires. if you drive without it, and get creamed, or someone whacks you. then you woul;d be fucked. same as with parkings bans, if you don’t have one, then when it does snow, you would be scraping your car off a big fucking plow blade, if i was driving.
Hey LIFE SUCKS the yappy border collie is herding you back into your pen with all the other sheep baa baa baa. If you think a blanket ban for a city that gets far less snow than other Canadian cites is the best solution then keep baa’ing with all the other sheep. Parking on alternate sides of the street, towing and a heavy fine if you’re parked on the street during a snowfall etc. You think the tow trucks will refuse the business or won’t be able to get down the streets? It’s funny that we drive on snow covered roads until the plow comes around but a whole bunch of idiots such as yourself will say “well how will the tow truck get down a snow covered street”? The same way we all do fucktard! Plus tow trucks are far better equipped to do so. Heavier vehicles, heavier treaded tires. 4 wheel drive. I think I need to change my ID to Master of Sheep baaa
I love you Master of Shame.
I can’t wait until I move back downtown in january. I’ll get to listen to snowplows grinding the bare pavement so they can collect overtime lol. Seriously, what a bunch of idiots. If you’re getting paid and there isn’t any snow at all then go pick a place to hide and have a snowplow pow wow. Don’t drive around pointlessly molesting the pavement thinking that it makes you look busy.
Mad props from the left coast MOS.
well shame, if you don’t like the winters here in n.s., you can always go to montreal, to be with another asshole we know from there. and by the way, a friend drives a plow, and i just told him to be on the lookout for a car that says asshole on the vanity plate, i would presume that it would be yours.
yeah, if we didn’t have bans and shit, the streets would be filled with self righteous idiots like yourself, and then everyone would start howling about how come the fucking roads aren’t plowed yet.then they could all go over to your uni. frat house, and hand you shovels. get fucked you idiot.
when i drive this winter, i plan on hauling out a nice little sherman d50 unit. it has all wheel drive, and will go over or through anything. have fun in the snow, i will.
Balls, you say there’s no savings from such a policy.. You’re right. There’s MAD PROFIT. CTV News reported the other day that Winter Parking Ban tickets raked in a whopping $550,000 last winter. It’s not perfect, but if you follow the rules and plan where to park in advance, you can laugh with me next year at all the suckers who got ticketed!
“Sadly most of the apologists seem to live on this site cause you have something to say on every post. To you losers – get a fucking life!”
says the tool who posts 3 times in 5 hours
it’s the norm here.
BC has plenty of back alleys you can suck dick for coke in. go find one.
Oh cry me a fucking river, OP.
You’re probably the first one to cry when your street isn’t ploughed after a storm.
You knew full well you had no parking when you signed your lease/mortgage, and if you didn’t you’re an idiot (well more of an idiot than you already are). If you can’t afford to rent a space for the winter than you can’t afford all the costs associated with owning a car. Should’ve factored that in when you bought your shitmobile in the first place.
No sympathy here *shrug*
Hugs, PK.
I was sure to rent a place with a spot. I looked at a great apartment when I was looking, but it was on street parking only, then you had to find somewhere else to be… too much hassle. So my place has a driveway all for me!
I don’t agree with the ban, so I follow the law and don’t park on the street. I think that’s the intelligent thing to do. So, you must think that you’re fighting some kind of revolution by posting here, do you? Uh, guess what, you’re just whining.
Sucks to be you OB. Grow the fuck up.
The asshats seem to be out in full force lately. Must be that time of year. 😛
speaking of banning, micheal vick wants a dog? wtf…loving your christmas stories admiral
Agent butter must know MoS because they have only commented on their own bitch (the cry baby waitress who thinks students should go to MacDonald’s or tip her) and now she supports a bitch feeling sorry for poor students who can’t afford parking during the winter ban – a big F-U to Butter you hypocrite!
MoS – if you hate it here so much then PLEASE go the hell home! We don’t want you here. Because any true Maritimer has been here for freak snow storms and has been stuck on roads and stranded in their homes because of the crazy amount of snow that can suddenly fall on this beautiful Province. I do agree the ban is a money grab to an extent (giving tickets in +14 weather) – but at the same time there are too many assholes in the past that ruined it for everyone because they left their cars on the road in bad weather.
And once again love ya PK
4 Days Painey. Roooooooooo!. >; )
The only pet that prick Vick should be entrusted with is one of those little Amazonian catfish that swim up your tadger and get stuck.
Also mad props to PK, the green turtleneck sweatered kitteh , voice of reason in a world gone mad.
If people hadn’t cocked things up in the past this ban wouldn’t even exist. Now everyone has to deal with it. If you have a car, make sure you rent/buy a place with parking, it’s really that simple.
Yay painey, the boy will be home soon. I’m soooo happy I only have one more sleep, then it’s 16 days with the boy in my life. I. Can’t. Wait!!
when I rented with no parking space (as I don’t have a car), I did have company with a car. In the winter we either parked it at a parking lot overnight (like the Westin who for some reason have never given us a ticket) or I asked my super for a spot for a night or two. I rented knowing the options for my (then) out of town boyfriend who could park when he came to visit me.
I now own a house with a driveway. People two door up have three vehicles and room for two in the driveway. They park in the street all the time and have never, to my knowledge, received a ticket. Of course this is Dartmouth so maybe we’re more civilized here than downtown Halifax…who knows?
Regardless, I have no sympathy. Winter is like Christmas, you know it’s coming every year so plan for it! don’t be surprised that it snows or on Dec 25 people are looking for presents from you. Grow up, plan ahead, or park downtown in the ‘park after dark’ areas and take the bus home.
have a wonderful holiday!
one more big, steaming shit to take before the boy is back eh..?
congrats.
unlike for funnygirl, Christmas isn’t coming this year.
screw it.
I welcome the coal, I’ll sell it to NSP for a huge profit.
need a groaning table to put your knees under zZz?
Aww I love you guys too 🙂
Srsly though think ahead a little bit — people buy cars and they don’t factor in the price of maintaining the car, of insurance, of gas, and yes, parking and then moan and bitch when they have to shell out money for these things like they’re some sort of victim. Take some personal responsibility!
It’s like people who buy a house and only figure they’ll have to pay what their mortgage costs without figuring in taxes, insurance, maintaining the house, etc….
People like this make me very very sad for society 🙁
Is that what you mean by a groaning table, PG? http://www.unplggd.com/uimages/unplggd/101…
more like this. sorry no offence intended
http://www.yasrsly.com/wp-content/uploads/…
Bahaha… nice. I sure to love your posting powers painey.
Ah ic.
ROTFL Painey – History nerdz Rawk!
My issue with the parking ban is that we have underground parking for one car. When the ban comes into effect, everyone parks underground, and there are now somehow more cars than spaces. More than likely it’s because someone bought another car for their family, figuring not everyone in the building needs a parking spot. However, it’s not the case this winter. For the past month or so, when I come home from work or shopping any later than 9:00, the spot I have parked in for a year and a half is never available. My super knows about it and thinks he may have to tow someone, but has done sfa about it.
Hollah! if it’s your assigned spot and you pay for it (or own it in the case of a condo for instance) call the police yourself.
if your super doesn’t tow it, insist on it as you are paying for a parking spot in one way or another.
nope, just the same table I had last newton birthday…
a place at the local chinese restaurant…. all to myself.
Back to Mr Chang’s Chinese Food Emporium eh? Is this because it’s a close walk from work? Where is your family Z? Where are these people you are giving shit to about the chocolate oranges?
Nowt wrong wivvat….
http://www.oneinchpunch.net/wordpress/wp-c…
fararara…”in god we trust all others pay cash” you can come to our table as long as your a good boy zZz
Master of Shame sounds like a university student in the 18-20 age bracket and has never put in an honest day of work in his/her life. Nothing is ever his/her fault; it’s somebody else’s. The rules/laws can be posted directly in front of them and they’ll still ignore them but blame the system for being punished. And the whole “sheeple” thing: the biggest sheep are the ones who call others sheeple. If you were more of an individual you could come up with something more creative than that.
And complaining doesn’t do shit. The fact is you’re taking it up the ass more and more everytime you whine about something that you will not fix yourself or cannot be fixed by bitching. Like so many others have said so far: grow up, bitch.
PS: the only person who takes it up the ass here is sebastian so please don’t lump the rest of us in the same category as him.
Like Fat said, complaining here dosen’t do you any good. I’m not about to start a campaign to change the law, because somebody I don’t even know, dosen’t have the brains or imagination to find a parking spot.
If it bothers you so much, get off your ass, and get the rules changed.
Instead of bitching about our attitudes; write up a plan to replace the current winter parking policy, and submit it to city council. Or is that too much?
The parking ban will not change … people complain every year and every year they keep it … I should rent out the extra spot in my driveway hahahahahahaha no tickets for me !!!
Aww did I offend you Life Sucks? I guess I don’t appreciate being woken up by a plow scraping the bare ass pavement when it’s not snowing and all the snow on the road was clearly melted hours and hours before. To the ones that do their job properly I have respect, but scraping pavement is necessary? Really?
Mr chang’s is likely the only place even open…
and they do celebrate xmas. the kid was opening gifts at the booth beside me.
I told my family yesterday I’m not coming home for xmas, I’m not in the spirit, I don’t want anything, except just to be left alone.
SO thankfully, no fucking oranges this year for me.
hrmboy,a lot of people do that. I used to have family on London St., they had a deal with several of the neighbours to share driveways when out-of-towners visited, it worked great.
Alternating Sides. It’s a no brainer. Which means it will never happen here.
If anything encourages drunk driving it is this stupid law
Um, Chappy if one is going out to get drunk, one should not even bring their vehicle. If it’s not there, there’s no temptation. Or even better, bring a DD with you.
bravo!! i totally agree. i don’t have a car, but can sympathize with those who do if they live on the peninsula – where exactly do all those people park their cars overnight?? there’s only so much driveway space in the south/west end where i live, and parking garages are so expensive if you have to deal with this the whole winter. hopefully they will change this ridiculous piece of legislation as climate change starts taking effect and temperatures get even more mild in the winter.
To Bro Tim & others who say park off the street.
What do we who work downtown Halifax do ?
I am one who occassionally works at the Metro Centre. We set up & Tear down shows.
Shows get over at anywhere from 10:30 to 12ish. THen we take them apart & put them into their trucks…that can take upwards of 4 hours.
So 10:30 shows over…2:30 am I get off work, my truck, my 3/4 ton truck with a rack on it, which doesn’t fit in ANY parkade near the Metro Centre now has a ticket, because I am parked & working.
Does that sound ‘Fair’ to you ?
Where exactly has reasonable gone from todays society & those in control ?
I am not there partying.
I am not deliberately trying to cause a problem. I’m just trying to do my job, make a living & then be able to go home & park my vehicle in my driveway. To be ticketed for that when there is NO SNOW is absurd. To have to leave my truck down on the Waterfront parking lots & then walk all the way up to the Centre & then back down there carrying 40+ lbs of rigging gear is IMO asking too much.
I’m not asking for the world here, I just want something more reasonable than what is now the ‘Law’…just becasue its the law doesn’t make it right, & doesn’t mean it can’t or shouldn’t be changed !
Well since you work at the Metro Centre have you asked them about the arking problem or pay for the tickets or even parking in the Metro Centre itself? If I have to go somewhere for employment and parking isn’t provided then my employer will pay for any tickets.
wow, the people here who support (or don’t oppose, anyway) the parking ban are indeed clueless idiots.
guarantee 99% don’t even own cars and thus have no idea what they are talking about.
the city did fine with out the ban for the last 90 years or so that people have been driving in Halifax.
it is a cash grab, pure and simple. i can’t understand how people can defend it. did you just move here from a city with no snow fall?
EVERY other Canadian city with significant snowfall has a better system. as the OP says, pull your heads out of your asses and look around.
To all those too stunned to realize that the ban is a cash grab, plain and simple: Even when there is snow, the plows just run down the middle of nearly every side street anyway. They don’t even clear the area where cars park. Duh…. even the stupidest of the sheep should be able to grasp that one!
Today’s news.
