OK bikers (cyclists) time to get real. You want a place on the road fine. I have no problem with that but to the 5 of you who swerved in front of me on the ramp coming onto Barrington this morning…..you stupid granolas in your faded tattered sweaters

Im 100% positive that they would prefer a bike lane, but since halifax doenst have any, your Bitch should be directed towards the city, and not the people living a healthy lifestyle, unlike you in your gas guzzling fat making machine
In Nova Scotia (although not a motor vehicle) bicycles ARE considered vehicles…keeping that in mind, every other legal vehicle on the road has to be registered, insured and the person operating it needs to have a valid operating license. NS needs to force cyclists to register their bikes, insure their bikes (because yes cyclists do cause accidents too – people get hurt and you see some cyclist twit peddling away oblivious that the accident they just caused lawfully oblidges them to not flee the scene), and be tested and licensed to operate their bicycles on city streets. Police need to be as diligent when they see a cyclist making an infraction as they do with a person operating any other vehicle…Cycling as a primary form of transportation is a growing trend in NS and it needs some lawful direction to say this is what you can do on a bicycle…and this is what you can’t do on a bicycle.
Roads and Infrastructure tax are usually combined into our fuel when we pay at the pumps. Plus auto owners have to register, insurance etc. There should be a fee to cyclists, otherwise they should stick to the side walk. It is easier for a person to step out of the way of a bike, than an automobile trying not to hit a cyclist.
Wow, Common Sense eh? You’ve clearly never used a sidewalk or a bike. And a fee to cyclist for roads and infrastructure? How progressive. Yah it’s the 25 lbs bikes with inch wide tires creating all those pot holes.

007 is dead on with this one. I have no problem with cyclists who obey the law – bikes are, as was mentioned, considered vehicles and subject to the same rules of the road as cars. It’s the cyclists that think they own the road that are the problem – the ones who suddenly cut out in front of cars with only a halfassed hand signal, who don’t even consider stopping for red lights or stop signs, or think that a hand signal means that cars MUST stop and give them right of way. I applaud people who choose to ride bikes to get around, but it isn’t feasible for everyone, and cyclists need to remember that they have to play by the same rules as people driving cars.
I’m sure it’s not my 4cyl car putting potholes in the road, you’d want to bitch at the Truckers way, smartie-pants. We pay a pretty penny to drive these days. Geez, even people have to have a licence or permit to operate a boat. Why would it be so crazy to put some sort of onus on a cyclist? Sorry, no offense to bikers, walkers etc.

As a cyclist, I have to agree wholeheartedly with 007. These idiots who ignore road signs and traffic signals while driving down the wrong side of the road and listening to their iPods are infuriating, and their irrational behaviour–as well as their ability to infuriate drivers, who get pissed off at cyclists in general–makes the road less safe for responsible cyclists who obey traffic laws.

Big problemo with idiot cyclists acting like they own it.Just to note on bike lanes, check out the city’s latest plan on them. It looks good but in a place like this it will be difficult and expensive to implement meaning, that mucho dinero will be paid for a rather small percentage of people to use them. I’m not saying it’s not worthwhile but even cities with the highest % of riders never break 10% for regular use.What this means is that even with some lanes added the odds are very low that a fully functional system will be built in the next 30 years so in the mean time, cyclists should get their heads out of the butts and learn to use the system we have properly. If not, they should get the hell off of it.
