Funny- I used to think we were so different from Americans, but now that I live abroad, I’m really not so sure.
I wouldn’t call an Israeli/Wall Street puppet a leader to be proud of. The US has not had a respectable leader since JFK was murdered for being a people’s leader. Slick Willy was good too, but fuck Obama.
And another thing: ya’ll don’t sound too bright lumping 303,824,640 people into the same category.
It is this attitude which is one of the reasons people form this area of the country, are considered to be ignorant. While the American culture is one in decline, none can argue that at an individual level Americans are stupid.
But our leaders have been so, so respectable haven’t they NGF? Let’s see….Steven Harper, Jean Cretien, Brian Mulrooney…wow!! Impressive!! Atleast the majority of Americans finally gathered up the courage to vote for change- however that pans out for them. Maybe one day we’ll do the same.

I was saying “Fuck Obama” when he appointed Rahm Emmanuel as his Chief of Staff or whatever it is. What kind of good leader appoints a bully to lead the under-admin?
Emmanuel’s father was a member of the Israeli Ergun (spelling) – a well-documented terrorist group that committed bombings against its own “people” and blaming it on Palestine. Last I checked, the US ‘claimed’ that it didn’t “deal” with terrorists or with those who aide terrorists.
But, quite honestly, I don’t tend to put any faith in the ‘American President’. Personally, I don’t understand why the rest of the world (especially Canada) invests so much into a leader that isn’t theirs to begin with.
Obama is merely a tall, dark and handsome mouth-piece. He’s already flip-flopping on a lot of his campaign promises.
NGF I agree with you about Chretien on that one! I can imagine someone trying to pie the American president…they’d be dead before the pie left his hand.
On an individual level, most Americans are really nice people, even the Republicans, especially on their home soil. They start to look like tools when you run into them overseas on vacation though. Collectively however, their foreign policy is just…well…awful. Really, really bad. I guess after Perl Harbor they just said “Fuck it, it’s our show now.”
I’m thinking the OP is bitching about tourists. I can understand where the frustration comes from.
I do not buy American unless I absolutely have to or it is unknown to me…….

Americans get treated like SHIT in Canada. I have a few american friends who live in canada and I’m appalled at some of the treatment they’ve received.
We’re just as lame as they are when it comes right down to it. The ONLY difference is we have healthcare and they don’t. The rest of the world just lumps us all in together as “asshole north americans”…

I love American tourists! Working at the waterfront a few years back met many visitors from south of the border. Had some of the best conversations, shared some of the best laughs and never had so many people tell me, “You need to visit *insert state here*!”
They’re not perfect, but much more pleasant than most snooty folks from Ontario or Quebec 😛
The tourists you’re bitching about keep many of the people who work in the hospitality industry in this provnce employed. Seeing as they keep our economy afloat I think we can smile and pleasantly give them directions or have a friendly chat. Tourist season lasts only a few short months but the economic benefits of their visits last a lot longer.
Don’t forget to moon the Harbour Hopper.

I worked in a job dealing with tourist from all around the world. Americans are nothing compared to continental Europeans.
When they counted the votes I noticed the WORLD crying tears of joy. I FELT the unity that swept across the PLANET. I care not for American cousins who ARE a much different breed of cat from your typical Canadian but I’m with the majority on this one. THE most powerful man on the planet has me, a Canadian, hopeful too.
I followed Obama on the campaign trail for nearly a year and I saw what he was full of: lies and false promises. I could go extensively into what I’ve unearthed but that would take too long. His plan to cure the American health care system? I’ll talk about that. The reason why health costs are burdening so many Americans is because, when rushed into the ER/scheduled for an appointment, patients are given loads of ”unnecessary tests and services” which run up the costs and put people into debt. Coincidentally, Obama wants to cut these extra costs to lean out the process. My mum is a nurse at Brigham and Women’s in Boston. Herself, like countless others on the floor, are INFURIATED. My mother watched countless people die after an ‘experimental’ run where ‘unnecessary tests’ WERE cut, where soonafter certain patients died from unsuspected, preventable diseases that could have been stopped by these tests. In the end, costs are going to be run up even more and more people are going to end up dead. That’s just my take. IMO, Obama is extremely unexperienced, gets all his tips from his aides, plus Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, who are all on CRACK to begin with, and then glosses over serious problems with his ‘suave’ and ‘sophisticated’ language. It’s all a shitload of BS. It also helps that I lean on the fence toward the Republican side.

It’s so bandwagon for Canadians to hate Americans…well y’all’d hate it a lot more if they didn’t buy all our shit. They pretty much keep our economy running….I think they just need a little more gov’t control over their economy like we have…remember: none of OUR banks needed bail outs.
The only states in America I’m actually proud of are Massachusetts and Maine. The people are relatively chill (except for Harvard Square…holy fuck.) and aren’t that self absorbed. Somewhat reminds me of NS. Ace: the reason why I hate the states, excluding MA and ME, is because we’re all so brazen. If we just sobered up I wouldn’t feel that way, but Canadians just seem to find a way to resist the showy and hero attitude, which I admire.
I agree with you, Dino….although I think it’s because deep down most of us truly believe we’re better which breeds some sort of confidence. I mean sure we go ape shit when an american tv show says the word “canada”, but in the end it’s like the guy with the OMG HUGE penis who tends to be all mellow when the guy with the tiny penis is all “I’M SUCH A BIG MAN”….small penis syndrome, really.
That being said, I have no american hate. I used to, but it’s like NB. I used to hate NB with a passion….oh and Toronto….used to hate that place. But then I mellowed the fuck out. I mean when it comes right down to it, we all wipe the shit off our asses the same way anyway (front-to-back, ladies). *shrug*
