Here is my frustration. This year I was organized, I contacted the federal and provincial loan offices as I was heading into repayment. I found out what my options were. My best option was apply for re-payment assistance.
Once I get the the paperwork from the federal office, I fill out all the papers in the envelope, and fax it off to the office within a week.
I look online to my account and it says that my application was incomplete. I call them up and am told I didn’t sumit a signed consolidation agreement.
How can I submit something that wasn’t sent to me? So frustrating. Why don’t they save postage and mail out the required papers in one mailing? It is such a headache. I wish I never had to have used them to help with school.
Why are they so disorganized? To apply for repayment assistance there is a deadline. I was well ahead of the deadline, and good reason, to fix mistakes that weren’t mine to begin with.

Is your frustration with Nova Scotia or the federal government? I have heard tonnes of negative comments about Nova Scotia student loans, but since I’m from New Brunswick, I had an integrated loan and had no problems. Every time I call up the National Student Loan Centre they’re fantastic and super helpful. I think integrated loans are the way to go, you only have to deal with one entity and they’re always helpful for finding ways for you to make at least some payments.
all student loans are misery. i know how you feel.

Ask the right questions, and you will get the right answers.-
They’re disorganized so they can fuck you over into paying the entire amount + all the interest they can scrape out of you. I used to have them deny having the correct paperwork after being sent things in triplicate. I used to mail AND fax those buggers(got into the habit after the second time) and they’d still try to shift off on things. My last employer would put “This is the same thing we sent you for SwampDonkey LAST YEAR. WE KNOW IT’S CORRECT”.
I have never been happier since letting my federal loan slip into collections with Human Resources and Development Canada and away from those fuckers at the NSLSC.
I completely agree, provincial and federal student loans are ridiculous. Every single part of them, from the disorganization and useless customer service reps, to the outrageous interest you will end up paying back for the rest of your life. I’m still amazed that our government thinks it’s okay to profit (and I’m talking MAJOR profit) off of students who want a higher education in this country.
