Thought I was having a bad dream until I realized I was not asleep anymore thanks to the loud roar of the street cleaner outside my window…at ONE A.M. in the morning! I know we all get our chance at this necessary service but never thought it would be performed when most folks are trying to get some much needed shut-eye! An insomniac at the best of times, getting to sleep is nearly impossible and once achieved is as valuable as gold to those afflicted. Staying asleep or getting back to sleep, a nightly challenge. If I made as much noise as a street cleaner at that hour the HRP wouldn’t be long putting a stop to it.

haven’t you noticed the signs on half the streets in the city that say “no parking street cleaning 12am-6” ?
Suck it up, they have to do it sometime. Better than interfering with traffic (because we all know you’d be bitching about that too).
Next, you’ll be complaining that the snowplows make too much noise in the middle of the night.
yeah, would you rather them slow down the already looooong overstretched commute of thousands of people or do it when the majority will be asleep and not behind the wheel?
Or maybe they should just make reversible roads that are automated to lift and flip sides during the night so they can clean one side while people use the other….
yes, THAT’s the solution to this problem.
wouldn’t want to be on one when it’s flipping though… that’s surely a sign I would be watching out for.
So when the fuck are they supposed to clean the streets, OP?? Holy fuck, it’s not like the truck is roaring up and down the street in front of your place for hours – you’re talking about a minute of noise – your sense of entitlement is ridiculous.
Maybe OP thinks it should be done at ONE A.M. in the afternoon?????
I really hope the OP drives. Then, as the moisture builds up under the rotting leaves and freezes overnight, it essentially creates a street covered in frozen, slippery leaves. Then the OP wraps their car around a tree and curses the fact that the streets aren’t clean. Fantastic.
I’m just happy someone is cleaning the streets. All those butts the smokers throw on the roads are disgusting.
earplugs
That’s what I was thinking, No Dogma.
As the OP, I should apologize for being so sleep deprived I forgot to mention one other detail. The street cleaner had already cleaned our street the day before (in the afternoon) making the one a.m. pass redundant because there was nothing to clean. Sorry lorilulu, your comment is just silly as there IS no one a.m. in the afternoon.
As stated in my op, I get it that we all get our chance at this vital service, I’ve just never known a street-cleaning to occur at that hour. Snow-plowing yes, leaf removal never. The snow-plow analogy, Jennier, isn’t relevant. Getting snowed-in is a reality that can paralyze a city but I’ve never heard of anyone being leafed-in. LOL! (Besides, in the daytime most vehicles are at the workplace as compared to at night when most are parked on the street, at least on my street) Snow-plows sure are a lot quieter than those leaf-hoovers that send felines scurrying in terror! And thank you for assuming I’d complain of traffic. (A-S-S-U-M-E…well, you know…) As a former resident of a city with several million residents, traffic here is a much-welcomed minor inconvenience. Earplugs, No Dogma, are a great suggestion if I could have predicted that I would need them, but really I’d rather be able to hear my smoke detector than block out all noise.
I hate to be the one to spell it out, Oceanlady, but…
Your “ONE A.M. in the morning” deserves lorilulu’s “ONE A.M. in the afternoon” reply.
😉
You are right No Dogma. I was being redundant. Thanks for pointing that out!
Ocean– it’s a matter of safety. Built up leaves freeze, and create havoc on side streets, especially in south end Halifax. If they’re not cleaned, you end up wrapped around a tree itself, seen?
Apologies to lorilulu for also pointing that out.
…no worries, of course. Everyone’s a victim of non-editable comments once in a while.
ha… thanks lorilulu, those always get me too…
True No Dogma. As I have also discovered, leep deprivation can lead to redundant comments. Note to self…only post bitches when well-rested.
Oceanlady… I should hope you want LEEP deprivation… unless of course you really need it.
Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure is nothing to laugh about.
zZz, thanks for noticing my typo. And yes, I hope I am always LEEP deprived…LOL!
Um, Oceanlady? Street cleaning has ALWAYS been done overnight. This isn’t a new phenomenon.
GO BACK TO BED…
this might sound wacko but i actually like the noise…it sounds like a big boogieman coming for you but he keeps on going
…prize to zZz for searching the intertubes for ‘leep’ on a whim.
(…or did you already know about that?!)
We’ve always had this occur in the day Jennie, so how was I to know they do it overnight as well? Snow removal is 24 hour. Leaf removal is not so urgent IMO.
This city differs from many other cities in many different ways, but apparently share a common time to perform the majority of street cleaning duties. WOW!
Sleep deprivation due to street cleaning? Do no bitches in the HRM have even a shred of coping skill for city living? No wonder you’re all so fucking mean.
And you’re such an angel kay.
Kay, you have it wrong. The insomnia, not lack of coping skills are my affliction. I’ve lived in this city and others and never once had the street-hoover go by in anything but daylight hours so I was a little surprised and annoyed that at this ‘urgent’ service being performed, redundantly so, as we’d been cleaned the day before, at this late hour. All I wanted was a decent night’s sleep so I could function appropriately the next day. Had I been aware that this service is performed 24 hours daily, I would not have lamely posted a bitch about it.
