Stéphane Dion election platform? What is wrong with this picture?

I can’t begin to say how I hate that Bush licking, neo con, art fund slashing douche bag that is Harper.I could go on and on. Just thinking about that excuse for a ” leader ” makes me shake with anger.

The problem with Canada as a whole, just as with Nova Scotia, is that we are in a cycle of voting weak leaders out, as opposed to recognizing and voting good leaders in. We took anyone over Martin after the Liberals caught too many scandals. It didn’t matter who it was. Clearly.I hope we don’t do the same in NS but it’s has been hinted in the polls that there is some chance that we could elect the NDP. I’m sure no one is truly that stupid as to think the NDP will be a good progressive choice, so it must just be a way to get rid of the Tories (and recognize that the Liberals would be an even more desperate choice). Imagine us with the NDP – think we’re a backward, cheap, no-can-do naysaying kind of place now? Imagine the NDP insisting that every single penny be spent on the poor. No education would matter, no recreation would matter, no arts, no business interests, no development, no health promotion (just health CARE), and CERTAINLY no sports. They would destroy what little culture and economy we have.

Exactly. The NDP are supposed to be so socially conscious – that is their whole platform. But they have absolutely no sense of fiscal responsibility or stewardship, and this is (arguably) the most fundamental aspect of social consciousness, because without an economy, we have nothing.The NDP is an incredibly short-sighted choice. I do understand why people make it. It sounds so good on the surface. But it is very very naive.

On the welfare issue, I used to live in an area near a subsidized-housing complex. It was interesting walking by in the winter (in temps of -10* or lower) and seeing the windows open. They weren’t responsible for their own heating bills, so didn’t care when the windows or doors were left open. Tax dollars literally floating away.I honestly don’t know what the answer is. I have to admit, I fall into the category of “apathetic”, although I always make it a point to vote. This time round, I have no idea how I’ll go. But I know it won’t be for Harper and his plastic Ken-doll hairdo.Do you think he’s is pushing for an early vote because the Tories are worried that the Americans might go with Obama? Although after the latest Palin speech, it seems the opposite; (((shudders))) I have visions of creationism being brought back in all American schools….Does anyone else want to hurl when they hear the phrase “hockey Mom”?

at least dion has integrity and the political will to do something GOOD about climate change & environmental degradation, whereas the antichrist harper is beholding to his oil buddies & corporate cronies.as i see it, one of the biggest challenges is that ‘old coots’ like yourself don’t want to change your wasteful/wicked ways, people like you always want MORE for less… but the party’s over mister, so suck it up. ALL of us must be willing to pay whatever price is necessary to reduce our destructive impact on the planet, especially industry and the other big polluters. a carbon tax forces people to THINK about their wasteful ways and seek out green alternatives, and hopefully stop consuming endless amounts of useless shit that they don’t need. basically, people are not going to care, nor take action on the environment, until they are forced to… a carbon tax will help encourage people to consume responsibly & sustainably.btw, dion’s command of the english language is fine, and will only get better; his french accent does not interfere with his ability to lead our country, so stop nitpicking, ya old coot.

There are plenty of people that are concerned about the environment. They have cut consumption for both environment and monetary reasons. Lots of those people are living on the edge now, with barely enough money to get by. There are lots that do not have enough to get by as it is.We must be willing to pay whatever price is necessary to reduce our destructive impact on the planet; what price do they pay. In a matter of speaking, there are people who’s belts are so tight now that if they were any tighter they would be cut in half. Why should a walker that shops as much as possible for local items, and consumes a little as possible, have to pay as much as the next person. The next person that couldn’t care less one way or the other about the environment and our impact on it. You know the type, they say ‘who cares I’ll be dead before that happens to the environment’, that sort of person. Same goes for some one that has spent plenty of time, money and consideration making their dwelling as energy efficient as possible. Drives a fuel efficient car and shops smart.; not driving here and there for single items and planning their trips.No, this Green Shift needs to be more focused, like a laser. Targeting the people that create the most environmental impact. It should not be a blanket policy that covers everyone. The economic structure is already largely imbalanced. This Carbon Tax is a money grab under the guise of an Environmentally Conscious Effort. Perhaps for some it would be less painful for some if the Government properly managed the money they have now. Carbon tax; the Green Shift is not right for those that are trying and achieving the most minimum environmental footprint as possible . And it is not right for those that can not afford it. Of which there are both. For them it really is the Green Shaft.

Point of clarification: It was Liberals who elected Dion as leader. If he is the wrong choice for Liberal leader, registered Liberal voters only have themselves to blame.
