To the guy that stopped his car on the crosswalk on Agricola and proceeded to tell me not to walk so close to his car after I walked my bike between his car and the car in front of him in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic.

Are you kidding me?! First you block part of an intersection and the entire crosswalk and then give me a hard time for walking too close to your car! Then I told you that you were stopped on the crosswalk, you looked down on the road and saw that your door was directly over top of the two white painted lines, looked back up and told me to “F#*k off!” You’re a real piece of work! —Agricola Street Cyclist

  1. It’s the bovine driving mentality at work.

People love to follow the bumper of the vehicle in front of them and they stop when it stops – whether they happen to be in the middle of an intersection, straddling train tracks or blocking a pedestrian crosswalk.

What’s worse is those drivers who see pedestrian crosswalks as convenient and available places to park delivery vans, heating oil tanker trucks, “out of service” buses and Uncle Joe’s Ford Ranger while he’s in town visiting from Hooterville.

No wonder pedestrians get mowed down in crosswalks with tragic regularity.

  2. This is something that drives me bonkers when I’m walking…and when I see other drivers doing it when I’m driving.

Theres a huge thick white line before the crosswalk, and that line indicates where you’re supposed to stop.

Don’t go ahead of it on a red. Don’t go ahead of it just before the light goes green. Stay behind it until it’s time to proceed through the intersection.

  3. I once had a guy lay on the horn and swerve out into on coming traffic just to get around me so he could fill up the space in the intersection ahead of me. The light promptly turned red and he was stuck there in the middle of it looking like an asshole for abut 30 seconds.

Lately I find that drivers are getting more and more inconsiderate and stupid.

  4. Aren’t you supposed to be riding a bike on the road? Yep typical cyclist wants to be a car when convenient and a pedestrian when convenient. But cars shouldn’t be blocking crosswalks for real pedestrians.

  5. dude was walking his bike. would it make you feel better if he replaced bike with ‘war vet in a wheelchair’?

  6. Bikes don’t belong in crosswalks, and neither do cars. Neither one of you should have been there to provoke this boring bitch.

  7. It certainly would. I’m fucking sick and tired of cyclists bitching about having rights on the road and then trying to be pedestrians. Riding on the streets, riding on sidewalks, doing all sort of shit, then bitch when they go too slow and wind up with a one ton vehicle up their ass.

  8. But when you’re walking your bike, aren’t you a pedestrian? I was always taught as a child to walk your bike across roads on a crosswalk. If you’re on foot, you’re a pedestrian. If you’re on a bike, you’re a cyclist and stay the fuck off the sidewalks.

  9. Sounds like the cyclist was following the law,..he was walking his bike across the road at the crosswalk as the law states he should do. He didn’t say he was riding on the sidewalk did he? Why assume that? If you refer to the drivers handbook, a cyclist who is making a left hand turn is allowed to get off his bike and walk it across the crosswalk and then get back on his bike.

  10. there is a new crosswalk at the end of gladstone at almon, it is very close to the other one so remain alert citizens

  11. In some cities, Cyclist protect their bike lanes with wrenches, enter their lane and loose your mirror…maybe pedestians should do something similar. . .

  12. This is the second bitch from ASC – is he the caped crusader of the pedal pushers?
Cyclists should be licensed and have to carry insurance like people in the real world.

  13. This bitch is about stupid motorists, of which this city has an overabundance.

If you want to bitch about cyclists and their deviant ways, why not start your own goddamn bitch?

The crosswalk situation in this city is deplorable. The head traffic engineer/bureaucrat responsible for crosswalks has suggested you’d be safer jaywalking than using a marked crosswalk, and therefore has no plans to improve crosswalk safety because such measures would induce a “false sense of security” in pedestrians. This may pass for wisdom in some circles but I call it the “my head is up my ass and I feel fine” syndrome.

  14. I bet the majority of the people riding bikes in this city already have car insurance and driver’s licenses. Next.

  15. pick me cranky! i am insured up the wahzoo and have a safe driving record…and my head swivels^^

  16. What’s with all the cyclist hate? Sounds like he was walking his bike through an intersection and that’s a perfectly legal and cromulent thing to do. If I have bike trouble or if I hit a stretch of road that isn’t cycle friendly, I dis-mount and walk my bike on the sidewalk (and through cross-walks if I need to cross the road) so as not to be an inconvenience to other road users- that’s what I read this guy doing too.

  17. I kinda wish buddy stopped at the crosswalk yesterday.
didn’t need to see the poor lass get mowed down…
and the ensuing calamity of cars screeching to a halt to help.

  18. that was another one….I think.
the one I saw was @ 6ish on lacewood where the path crosses the street.

  19. Ooooh zZz — I saw the line of traffic around 6:30-ish? Went around the long way to get onto Parkland from Willett because apparently traffic was jammed (esp busses) for about an hour.

The driver isn’t being charged…wonder if she/he pressed the button before crossing? You ALWAYS need to make sure the cars stop before you step into any cross walk. It pisses most motorists off, but who gives a flying frack — my ass being safe and sound > the two extra seconds they’ll have to wait.

  20. yeah, I was like 7 cars back…. in the thick of the mess of cars.
    ’bout an hour, yep.
    just to get cat food.

  21. WEIRD. I was in the area to get cat food too at that time…vet or grocery store? *twilight zone music*

  22. sadly, superpets is the only place I’ve found that carries the now and go brands…
there was an awesome store downtown by quiznos but they got fed up dealing with the sketchy delivery of those two brands so they stopped carrying it.
    know of any other places?

  23. it’s a bit of a trek but i think the hound exit 5 st. margaret’s bay rd carry that brand

  24. Unfortunately I don’t, zZz. My kitties are on medi cal gastro wet and dry due to my girly’s IBS, so it’s the vet pour moi. Medical rocks my socks off (and the kitties’) if your kitty fancies a change 🙂

Have you tried Best Friends in CP by sobeys?

  25. Sometime I have to proceed my car on a cross walk because I’m turning left and there’s a vehicle to my right, that’s turning right….but is too high so I can’t see oncoming traffic…and sometime I’m stuck there because I haven’t had a chance to go yet…and a pedestrian comes up and gives me this “you inconsiderate bitch look” and I have top give the “so sorry look”. I`d like to get out of my car and give them a close up F-U look and bitch slap!
