For cripes sakes, if you are not having any luck in your job search, stop complaining here! There are tons of jobs in Halifax. Now, there may not be a job that YOU want, you know, cool, little work, lots of pay…..but there are tons of jobs. If your bitch is “I want to work in a gold mine and there are no gold miner jobs….” then get bitchin I say. But for chrissakes stops the generic ‘I hate Halifax it’s horrible and there are no jobs rant’ And if you are going to rant, be specific so that we can tear it apart.

Eh. I’m moving once I finish out my current program. Halifax is just dead for certain industries, and why go to school to learn something and then take a job you didn’t need to go to school for/something you didn’t even go to school for? I like what I went to school for and there are jobs elsewhere and practically none in hfx so *shrug* I’m just going to go where the jobs are. Can’t really fault a person for wanting a job they went to school for.
pretty sure that’s why everyone else left too…
it just so happens that my industry is actually fairly big around here, even if we are getting hit a bit by the times.
and don’t forget about the tradesmen (and women…)

Tons of jobs in Halifax? What kind of jobs??? Where??? Besides the ones in call centers, of course! I tried to find a job in Halifax, after 6 years of university and a master’s degree. Did I find one? Nope!! Funn though; as soon as I left, I did. It’s a funny coincidence I guess..one that seems to have happened to 80% of the people I know.
Hi Scooby. Just went on the internet and there are over 1,000 jobs, in finance, insurance, banking, federal government, health care, provinicial government, human resources, business development, warehousing, call centres, retail. And those are just the ones that are advertised. You did not mention what your Master’s degree was in, and what type of job that you were looking for. Example, if you have a Master’s degree in plant science, the likelihood of getting job in Halifax is low in that field, even with a lot of education, because there are no jobs like that. not the fault of Halifax.
I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as over 1,000 jobs available so you should obviously be able to find a decent one, but I do agree that it’s not the fault of halifax one can’t find a job in a certain industry. Some industries just aren’t necessary here or just don’t have a lot of jobs available for various reasons. Like I’ve mentioned, I’ve accepted that and the fact that I’m going to have to move, so I’m trying to save some money for that.
My point is though, that some industries just don’t have a job base in the maritimes so over 1,000 jobs available doesn’t mean you’ll get one (also, most of the jobs are looking for people with experience — there are very few entry level professional jobs in Halifax in comparison to other parts of the country. And in some industries the jobs are so few and far between organizations offering entry level jobs can get away with demanding 2-5 years experience!)
