Hey – 408! please stop the noise complaints to the Supers!
I am watching a movie/tv/play a game at a VERY reasonable leavel – Were my tv any quieter I would be forced to enable subtitles.
I have moved my speakers further from the wall, and have placed thick cardboard under/behind them in an effort to reduce sound transfer.
We live in a very cheap building and the walls are thin. Stop complaining to the Supers because they have to come up (to appease you) and agree with me that it isn’t unreasonable – You’re wasting all of our time!
Either pay more for a nicer place, or DEAL WITH IT.
I’m doing everything I can, but I am NOT being unreasonable.

Turn off all your sound, get a tape recorder, record their noise and report on them with evidence. Then, when it is loud hours Crank it and play “This Means War” from Busta Rhymes fet Ozzy Osbourne… Then mix it up with a nice William Tell Ovature to say you are listing to the classics. If they wanted quiet they would not be in an apartment.
i had a very noisy naeighbour once, you have a right to enjoy your rental unit, but so does your neighbour. the quality of construction is not your problem, your behaviour may be.legally, be glad they have only hit the super. in our case repeated calls to the police department were required. it does not matter what you think the sound levels are, or what time of day or night, if it can be heard from the interior of another unit, technically you are in violation of lease and can be terminated. try plugging in out on the street….if 408 insists to the police that they wish to file a formal noise complaint, congrats, you will get a court date. also, hrm’s finest will only come so many times before the regard you as an “issue” and ramp it up a notch. bet you won’t like that.anyway, eventually the police thing started and the neighbour decided that the law did not apply to him. poor lad. unfortunately there is nothing quite like the comfort of knowing you have a good lawyer on retainer..voila..minor expense later, a letter from a great law firm on Hollis street and problem solved. new neighbour….!life isn’t hard unless you make it. try to get along, you’ll thank me but sometimes you can’t tell Heinz pickles fuck all.
David – You are incorrect.According to HRM Bylaw N-200The audio from any public address system (tv/stereos) are allowed to exceed the boundries of the property they originated in within the hours of 7am-9:30pm on weekdays, and 9am-11pm on weekends. Were he to call the cops in that time frame, there would be no problem – and I have no intention on being loud beyond that. so if he’d stop being a sissy at 2 in the afternoon, no problem.
Sorry David, didnt quite read your entire post.I imagine when they concluded the law didnt apply to him, they perhaps were thinking of the same by-law I am.
actually, noise bylaws are any time of day or night, the quiet hours concept has gone by the board. it all depends upon impact upon your residence be it owned or rental. it is simply a matter of indicating that you wish to file a formal complaint and intend to follow through with it. typcially, it can get uncomfortable after that but only for the short term.one letter from legal counsel indicating intention to persue this through other legal recourse was sufficient and if necessary on the behalf of the rest of the neighbourhood I would have done so just to make a point. it did not come to that, however at one point, the police department arrived without benefit of sheriff, and literally moved dude onto the street, hi def tv, stereo and entire contents. it is all very much a matter of leverage.that being said, I love a party myself, however the group dynamics of community living appear to be lost on the bitcher. to every end point there are two paths..draw your own conclusion.
A friend of mine had a great trick, and an awesome home theater set up. Just to aggravate the fuck out of his complaining neighbour about the “loud music” he ‘obtained’ some very low frequency tracks (he had a friend with the Dept. of Defence and they had used it for underwater acoustic measurements). When he played it, you could not hear shit….but you sure as hell could feel it! He’d play it at random times, even when the Super stopped by. He had another neighbour in on the plot and had him ask the “noise senstive neighbour” “Did you feel that earthquake the other day?” The neighbour eventually moved out thinking the rumblings bass was the sign of seimic activity. Dumb fuck.LOL….Torment the fucker even more and maybe he/she will leave.
of course the on again off again noise source does not actually have to be ON when HRM’s finest arrive. they and the neighbours have played that game before.it’s a give and take world, and you fight the battles you can win, right? personally, I love a challenge. especially when I hold all the cards and if some twat doesn’t know that, a lack of knowledge of current bylaw is not my problem. ah, it’s the little victories, even if it is gained at the expense of the little people. I look at it as a demonstration of the failure of our educational system and the fact that they appeared to have been brought up in a tent in the backwoods. welcome to the real world.
btw for the on again off again strategists just to be annoying, that of course becomes what in legal terms is subtly called harassment. see how things escalate? isn’t it great, oh the fun of it all.
hey OP… try being a respectful neighbour, get yourself a set of HEADPHONES and stop your inane bitching
OP here TechCafe:I have headphones which I typically wear when playing games – but I’m not going to wear them watching a movie – or ever when I have company enjoying either of them with me.
