I have just read several stories of someone in authority making a homophobic post or an indecent comment and something on bullying, and of course it’s a news item so who knows how many times it will be seen and commented on, or be posted and reposted causing them to go viral.
And for me that’s the bigger issue, these message will spread more people will see them discuss them and a new band wagons begin to form. Different groups will once again voice distain for the comments, others will call for action, and some will undoubtedly support them, causing an even greater debate, then they will spin out of control until they fizzle and die until the next great outrage sparks the same whirlwind uproar and so on and so on and again nothing changes or gets accomplished.
I’m truly tired of debates on these types of subjects who’s right who’s wrong … I have no idea.
I’m one man with a sense of right and wrong and feel I’m as “Good” a person as I can be, am I perfect, am I an Angel no just a person trying to do what’s right as I know it.
I sat thinking what can I do when I see something distasteful or offensive to my sense or right and wrong … and the only thing I could come up with was… Act.
So here is what I’m going to do from now on, when someone posts a comment that I find distasteful or offensive I will not comment on it, I will not repost it, I will not forward it, and I will not share it. I will block it… I will block the person that posted it, I will unfriend them, I will unfollow them, and I will hopefully help “Stop the Message”.
Actions are stronger than words so act.
When someone makes this type of disrespectful, distasteful, and vile comment, let them know that it is completely unacceptable by simply walking away.
They will soon notice that they have no friends or followers listening to them, and their voice and opinions have gone silent.
Maybe I’m right maybe I’m wrong but I think taking Action might be a step in the right direction. —TR

Blocked. Un-friended. Un-followed. I will not tolerate your lack of grammar and punctuation. Bully!
HITLER LIVES

TR admits he has no idea as to who’s right and who’s wrong in debates about these types of subjects. All he knows is that he’s just one person trying to do what’s right as he knows it. When he sees something distasteful or offensive to his sense of right and wrong he knows what he must do. He must Act!
Hitler couldn’t have put it better. He was tired of debates about democracy, socialism, human rights and all the rest. Like TR, Hitler had an intuitive sense of right and wrong. Reasons were not required. Just change the objects which he felt to be distasteful or offensive and all that remained was the necessity to … Act! Which he did, in spades.
There’s only one difference between the two: Hitler knew how to use punctuation.
Cheerio!
Montrealman,
Comparing me, to the most evil person in history is beyond shameful. I hope that you apologize to the millions that died and suffered at the hands of a mad man.
You are the worst person I have ever had the misfortune to ever encounter.

Good bitch, OB. I completely agree. Take away the attention from them and they lose their voice (and let’s be honest, most of them are doing it for attention anyway).
This is a valid bitch. Social media, in particular, has given certain people a platform that they abuse. They think they can portray themselves as being socially active and morally superior by shouting their outrage at the slightest infraction. Or they use it to further their petty grievances and favourite gripes.
The cartoon below is bang on. It has been posted here by other folks but I think it merits repeating:

… and by the way, the public shaming trend has gotten out of hand. As the OB suggested, if someone does or says something you disagree with let them know. Don’t film it and post it on the web so you and your morally superior friends can hiss and fume while the subject of your public shaming remains oblivious and possibly even unaware that they have done something wrong.
Could this possibly be Glen Canning complaining about Frank magazine again?
Easy solution to all this ruckus: unplug the computer. Throw your devices and cell phone in a box marked ‘Shit That Wastes My Fucking Time.’
(Shakes head and walks away quickly)
A New Yorker cartoon?
How perfectly jejune.
Public Shaming, especially of people who are “non-public figures”, is becoming a very real problem. I agree that in most cases it is better to “Stop the Message” and I am going to strive to spread this idea.
It is one thing if an elected official, or person in a position of authority or trust, abuses their power and acts in a hypocritical or unethical manner. We, the members of the public, have the right to hold such people accountable.
However, ordinary people, no matter how foul-speaking or badly-behaved, are not expected to be held to the same standard.
I too would like to see a stop to public shaming of private individuals who may be unknowingly caught on film or video acting like the biggest jerks or the dumbest losers in the world but who are still entitled to a private life if they are living within the law.
If a camera followed ANYONE around 24 hours a day, it would only be a matter of minutes until some idiotic statement or act got taken out of context and re-tweeted around the world–hardly a fair response to most situations encountered in everyday life.
Yes yes op. Don’t act. Just sit back and ignore.
That’s how most people live around here.
Funny thing about it, you won’t hear about it ever again, and the hate mail and youtube videos will still continue, and no one will ever admit that there’s a problem.
