Sick and tired of all the hate and fear towards the poor Syrian refugees. What the heck is wrong with our citizens? Are you that devoid of compassion that you can turn your back on the suffering of people who have lost everything? I’m sickened and disheartened by the ignorance and fear demonstrated by people who I once respected. Another friend cull coming up! —Spiggy Q.

Don’t believe the hype. It’s not fear; it’s Donair fatigue. Nova Scotians are tired of gobbling down ground garlicky offal whilst drunk as lords and waking up smelling like a Bedouin latrine. We want to meet people with a bold, innovative fusion cuisine. Plus, we need to prepare for the coming influx of Ukrainians, Balts and Poles who have no desire to live under the bootheel of Czar Vlad Barechest.
Mmmmmm, pierogies. Lllllaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhhhh
Being fearful plays into the hands of those who are trying to oppress us. They want us to stop living our lives as we now do. They want to control our behaviours, thoughts and actions.
We have a choice. We can choose to submit or we can choose to continue to be as we are now. If you choose the former, you play into the hands of the terrorists. By playing into the hands of the terrorists, you are part of the problem.
Shame!
I took 30+ friends off my FB after the events of Paris. The sheer ignorance and nasty comments towards the refugees did me in. You can call me a lot of things but a ‘hater’ of refugees isn’t one of them.
So you want to bring everyone in without security checks or places to put them? Most are ticked off with the acting before thinking. Checks have to be done, preparations need to be made, such as where they are going to live, how to get them here, and a host of other things and that all takes time. By rushing it all that PET Lite is doing is causing chaos. The groups that take care of immigrants and refugees have said they can’t handle the influx because there are too many in too short of time. So think again when you say people are not compassionate or not caring.
While I stand with the refugee’s, as I said on the last post about the refugee’s, I will say this: not everyone who has a different opinion is a racist, is scared, is ignorant, etc. If you’re going to ‘unfriend’ people every time they disagree with you about something you’re going to find yourself surrounded by a very narrow-minded group of people who never say anything to challenge your world view, who never make you think or even just consider things differently. Next thing you know you’ll be working for the Coast as a comment deleter.
Bro Tim, no one said not to do security checks.
Ho!st, a differing opinion and out-right hatred are two different things.
Folks on both sides are getting a little over-excited and are wildly overstating their cases. The fearful exaggerate the risks – their detractors automatically label them as racists.
IMHO, we need to ignore the noise and calmly go about doing our part to accommodate the refugees. We failed to do that in 1939 when we turned away a ship carrying 907 Jewish refugees (254 would later die in concentration camps) and it weighs on our collective conscience.

The situation may not be as grave but we still need to do our part.
And who knows when we may need someone’s help after some sort of natural disaster? Would you want them to be debating while you wait for help?
Thanks, GJ, for clarifying that. I simply unfriended people who were professing to be good Christians but wanted to deny Syrian women & children refugees entry to this country. These wretched hypocrites did not show their true colours until this issue came to light. It’s not a matter of disagreeing with me, it’s a matter of showing some humanity towards those fleeing for their lives. And, yes, of course, there should extensive screening – that would be a given.
Hey, GJ, how’s Amsterdam? I love their salads! Especially that 5 leaf plant one with the brownie sauce! Wish I could remember the name of that plant.
Lets be clear, I welcome the refugees.
OP, if you think I am a hater because I want security checks done on the refugees, then you are an idiot.
enough said.
The King: If you refer to either Spiggy or myself, then you’re clearly generalizing and not being helpful or adding to the conversation.
Safety Guy: We could list thousands of white, heterosexual, privileged men who committed heinous crimes. Making a list of Muslim terrorists only adds to the racist comments. I’m not =certain hat’s what you have in mind. If you do, shame.
And I worked for a HORRID man who was Buddhist; his religious/spiritual affiliation did nothing to make him good in any way.
I think some others on this board need some Space Cake… Amsterdam for Everyone!
Ghost J,
I wasn’t referring to or passing judgement on any specific individual . I was merely holding up a proverbial mirror so that each reader can sit and reflect (pun intended!). I leave it to each person to decide if they like what they see reflected back at them.

The King
Mod, can we get a bus Bitch?
The King: I stand corrected and thank you for the clarification. Amsterdam? There’s space cake…!
No bus bitches until we kill the leggings debate, solve the immigration crisis and Meaty is permitted back.
“a differing opinion and out-right hatred are two different things.”
Not, apparently, on this site if recent history is anything to go by.
Also Mr Jesus, I personally think the topic of wide set genitalia should be discussed more. Turns out its quite the anomaly- Google couldn’t even help me 🙁
And yes Meaty should come back, along with Ivan. I loved the way he filled out his work pants.
Dr Z,
At the risk of generalizing, the younger folks today are a super-sensitive lot. I find myself choosing my words much more carefully when I am around someone under 30. They seem to be constantly on the alert for “micro aggressions” and, the latest fad, “trigger words”. I suspect that every time a trigger word shows up in a bitch post someone is clicking on the “report” button to flag it and have it deleted.
Below is a link to an article in the Atlantic entitled “The Coddling of the American Mind”
“In the name of emotional well-being, college students are increasingly demanding protection from words and ideas they don’t like. Here’s why that’s disastrous for education—and mental health.”

Caballo – universities have always been a place for the nurturing of keen young minds who decide that since a baby cannot digest steak, nobody should be allowed to eat it. The difference seems to be that these days, such opinions are actually being listened to.
Nukka, in these troubled times I think we can all benefit from the gentle wisdom of The Vandals when they sang “Oi to the punks. Oi to the Skins. Oi to the World and Everybody Wins” Ameen.
Am I the only one that thinks the government should take care of our poor, hungry and homeless citizens or do they have to go to the back of the line?
its kind of funny how you mention compassion and syrian in the same sentence. Let me remind you of the hundreds of thousands of palestinians that sought refuge in syria, only to be put in ghetto slums on outskirts of major cities, vilified by the syrian population as freeloaders etc. now, we are only talking about the palestinian refugees that went to syria, not the thousands upon thousands from other middle eastern countries that also sought refuge there and were treated as low as you can be treated. With the migration of so many hundreds of thousands of refugees, how many of them are ACTUALLY palestinian, and NOT Syrian. if the middle east wont shepherd their own people, it falls on our heads to do so? what, with over 356 thousand unemployed in our own country currently, or the tens of thousands homeless…1 in 3 children in cape breton live in poverty…etc etc.. can only extend the budget so far with so many “needing” our assistance across the planet.
