I had put my whole music collection onto an external hard drive, and what my sister decided to do is go and copy all of my music, over to her laptop. Today I wake up listening to her playing my music.

I’ve put many years and money into making this collection of music I like, and then she just takes a few seconds to copy it all for herself.

Some might say that’s a good sign because they admire your tastes, but to do what she did without even saying is down right annoying.

  1. Seriously, if this is the worst thing going on in your life right now, I think things are looking pretty good.

  2. OP, you’re bitching because your sister stole your STOLEN music. Suddenly you know what it’s like to be an artist with uncollected royalties on everyone’s MP3 player AND computer… yeah, it’s just like that and it sure looks good on ya.

  3. Kay the OP states that they put many years and money into the collection, so I doubt it’s stolen music that the sister stole.

Still, in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t the biggest deal. I would find it way worse if my sister was playing some pop crap by a princess who can’t read music.

  4. $10 says the OP spent years finding and downloading their favorite music from peer to peer networks. If not I think we’d hear all about how many painful hours was spent ripping those CD’s but there’s not a word of it in this bitch.

  5. Kay, do you have to be so obtuse? The OP says that they invested time and money, so what is with the accusations of piracy? Just because they didn’t explain the lengthy process of ripping CDs doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

  6. It’s even possible that they built their collection by buying from artists online, whether through itunes or some other method. I doubt the OP would be so pissed if they had just downloaded it all in the first place.

  7. It’s funny people have no problem copying music (yes, I believe the OB purchased his or her music), yet they would scream or shout if someone stole something from them. Well when you copy music, movies or whatever, you are stealing.

Copyright law allows owners to format shift or copy what they own for personal use only. The OB did nothing wrong placing the music they bought into their laptop. The sister on the other hand stole the music when she copied it for her use without paying any royalties.

When this is done in the professional world it affects legal DJs, Karaoke hosts and anyone else who uses music professionally. People who copy or buy illegal harddrives to get into these businesses enter unfairly as they did not have to invest the true value of their music and therefore can eith charge less and or make profit. Fuck I hate pirates.

  8. Jennier – Kay just has to be right all the time. Even when she’s wrong (often to always) she still “has” to be right.

  9. This is a bitching forum. they posted a bitch. Why is everyone cranky about the content of this bitch when this is one of the best forums out there to vent? I’d be pissed off too. I have lots of PAID FOR music that I’d be pissed if someone took without asking. I’d just go on your sisters computer when she isnt looking and delete it all.

  10. “Kay just has to be right all the time. Even when she’s wrong (often to always) she still “has” to be right.”

But that’s what makes her so fucking entertaining…her vehement denial of her own ignorance that is so evident to everyone else. It’s like seeing someone standing next to the Grand Canyon, flatly denying it’s there, only to watch them step off the edge and plummet to their demise.

  11. So you have your hard drive and your music right? So she didn’t steal your music collection. She copied it. Dear God no, someone’s listening to your precious mix tape.

  12. This bitch is pathetic… What’s even more pathetic is that it’s family… I wish I had time to worry about something so petty…

  13. LOL @ DER? With any luck she’d be met at the bottom of the canyon by gay and lesbian paramedics, that would make the situation hillarious 🙂 “no, don’t touch me, lemme die already”

  14. I think this bitch deserves a whole new category of it’s own—”Baby Bitch” or something like that, for utterly babyish posts that only deserve “Waaaaah Waaaaah Poor Widdooo Bayyyybeeeeee” as the response.

  15. Well put DER?. As long as the music is not being played in public (i.e.: for profit at an event) and is solely used for personal purposes only I don’t think there’s an issue of piracy.

  16. I wonder if people were listening to their music on a back deck/patio if Kay would consider that to be playing “music in public” and, therefore, requiring royalties to be paid to the musicians. You know how much she thinks she’s a lawyer, CRTC rep, SOCAN official, etc…

Same with people who use MP3 players while on a bus or walking down a street.

  17. Since Kay gave up her OMGWONDERFUL life in Alberta to come east and marry Gary Beals, she knows everything there is to know about music copyrights and such laws!!! So we should all bow down to her fucked up logic because OMG SHE’S MARRIED TO A BIG TIME [LOCAL] MUSICIAN!

Also, honey, it’s “you’re” not “your”

    Dumb bitch.

  18. My opinion on this bitch is that it’s not a big deal, and even seems a bit petty. I mean, I’ve copied some of my BF’s music onto my computer, and I suppose that’s “pirating” in a sense, but if I didn’t do it I would just have to walk over and ask him to borrow the CD, take it back over, and put it in my CD drive. I’m still getting the same enjoyment but instead of walking that 6 feet I can just press a button on my own computer. It’s not like I’m bootlegging them and selling them at the flea market.

  19. Somebody should tell Gary Beals, if this person really exists because I’ve never heard him on the scene nor seen his name listed at any venue advertised here on The Coast, that kitty’s got as big crush on him. Hint kitty… WE’RE NOT LOCAL. Fuckin’ moron… the best you can do is complain about a misspelled word? There are only a few of those in my almost 2000 posts so knock yourself out, kitty…. it must be “that” time again. Get some, would ya?

And yeah, I know quite a lot about copyrights in this country. Why wouldn’t I? As for selling other people’s music at the flea market… totally not required to infringe on copyright. All you have to do is make an illegal copy or distribute copywritten material that is not yours. Go ask Metallica about it. Then have a look at Creative Commons licensing and THEN go ahead and get educated about the role of SOCAN and federal registrations of copyright before blowing off Kay.

YOU’RE most welcome. Bitch on, stupid bitch.

  20. Mole I bet your BF allowed you to copy, the OB didn’t. The OB spent good money on his collection then someone copies it, benefits from it and didn’t pay for it. Yeah I’d be pissed off too. If sis wants the music she can damn well pay for it like he did.
