It’s a long time since many of us had to rise at 5:30 in the morning to pull our nets and traps. Why then can’t a restaurant serve food past 9:00 even on a Saturday night. Many maritimers enjoy eating a late meal on the weekend. We don’t all go to bed at 10:00 on Saturday night … and I keep fishermen’s hours. STAY OPEN LATE ALREADY, MAKE MONEY.

Thank you so much for this post. This has been a pet peeve of mine for ages. Just a few weeks ago, I went to a show that got out just before 10:00. We could not have a decent meal – and it was a Friday night. The only places that were open and serving food were pubs. We didn’t want nachos, we wanted dinner. Onyx was open, but we didn’t really want to spend that kind of money. Please, please, please Halifax restauranteurs – stay open a little later, especially on Friday and Saturday nights!
YES! Jennie me too! It’s not like they would even have to stay open all hours, but on the weekends couldn’t the kitchen be open until midnight? Most people would be happy with that, and these places are usually open for drinks until 1 or 2 anyway. I went out after work around 9:30 one night with my boyfriend to celebrate a promotion. I called the place we wanted to go to before we left to make sure the kitchen would be open. The girl on the phone assured me it would be open until 11, but when we got there at 9:55 we were told to “choose more quickly than we usually would” because the kitchen was closing at 10! I mentioned that we called ahead and were given wrong information but they just shrugged us off. So frustrating!
