Not so much a bitch, more of a question really: Why when you have tonnes of bags, and a little one to boot do cab drivers refuse to let you put bags in the trunk? I am not talking dirty laundry or booze either, I am talking shopping bags peeps. This has happened to me many times, and I am tired of groceries falling all over the backseat or squishing myself and my little one if I bring them along. Are they not allowed to use their trunks? I am actually just curious… —Appreciate Cabs But Tired of Backseat Groceries

  1. I’ve never had to take groceries or shopping bags in a cab … but they always open the trunk if it’s luggage. I’d be interested to know what the cab company would have to say about this if asked. They’ll tell you if it’s a general rule or something left to the discretion of the driver. I wonder how the driver would respond if pressed on the point? Kind of like when I had a driver (with a company that advertises they accept debit) try to tell me that he didn’t think the debit would work at night … I don’t think dude liked it when I told him the payment networks don’t go down at night and all he had to do was turn on the machine.

  2. Yeah, I’ve used cabs to get groceries many times before I got the Sube, and always was able use the trunk without issue.. Not sure what the deal might be with that cabbie. He might have had a body or something back there that he didn’t want you to see.

  3. That’s odd, OB, because they usually charge more for use of the trunk, so you’d think they’d be more than willing to put your stuff in there.

  4. extra to use the trunk? first time ive ever heard of that. ive never had an issue using the trunk if im loaded up with groceries or luggage, they always jump out and help me load them in. next time i take a cab and need to use the trunk ill be askin them if its extra, i never noticed before if i was charged more..

  5. I’ve never heard that either…
why would it be more to use the trunk???

it’s not like they don’t have to take it along with them anyways?
is it because they assist in loading/unloading it?

  6. I don’t recall paying extra for using the trunk of a cab, and trust me, I’ve hauled shit-tons of groceries home with a number of cab companies. They do charge extra for an additional passenger or _if you ask specifically for a van_, but if they’ve got a van on the road and it comes for your fare, they won’t charge extra. Switch companies if you’re getting consistently poor service.

  7. i don’t know what cab company you get, but anytime i get casino, they usually open the trunk, help you pt stuff in, and when you get home, help you take stuff out. with or without a little one. done this a ton of times.
