To the homeless man on Spring Garden this morning who looked at me and said “Daaaaamn, I’d bend you over for sure,” and then laughed: you don’t need change—you need manners. You’re lucky I didn’t clock you upside the head. —One Pissed Off Chick

What pissed you off more? The fact that he was homeless or his comment?
Seriously, he could have some form of mental illness whereby he has no meter. Maybe you just need to cut him some slack?
Perhaps he just wanted to engage in some calisthenics. When done well they have an undeniably aesthetic appeal.
So I take from the number of dislikes that homeless people with mental illness are not to be tolerated?
Halifax: We’re Friendly (as long as you’re not crazy)
Three things:
1. We have to stop making excuses for bad behaviour. Sorry, Jesus S but your comment “he could have some form of mental illness whereby he has no meter. Maybe you just need to cut him some slack?” is a recipe for a race to the bottom of public behaviour. We all have the right to move about without being harassed by strangers.
2. It would be very unusual for someone with a severe mental illness to make such a comment to a passing stranger. I’d be willing to bet that this is a simple case of a garden variety jerk who thinks he is a gangster porn-star.
3. OB, try not to let this cause you ongoing anxiety or decrease your freedom of movement.
Oh, I agree that people should be able to walk around without being harassed. But the likelihood that a homeless person is afflicted by mental illness is great as is the likelihood that they will say something inappropriate.
Once you put it in that context things aren’t so grievous. Why let it ruin your day? Ignore it like you ignore the bad behavior of your children. If you pay them heed, the behaviour continues.
Simple.
Ivan, you know as well as I do, the reason for so many homeless people with mental disabilities is that years ago the bleeding hearts cried out that it was inhuman, against their human rights, etc to keep the mentally ill in institutions, so they let them out. Then many of them had no support or idea of how to take care of themselves and ended up on the streets.
I am not Ivan. I am the love-child of Meaty and Hing Frogg.
And I agree.
Wasn’t Ivan banned for being a racist troublemaker who bullied other commentors and disrespected The Coast?
Just ignore it. Life already bent him over several times.
CLOCK HIM UPSIDE THE HEAD
“You’re lucky I didn’t clock you upside the head.” One Pissed Off Chick
Then why didn’t you clock him upside the head? Failing that, why did you post this bitch in the first place? What are we supposed to say? Something vacuous like “Just ignore it?” Obviously you didn’t just ignore it because you couldn’t. So where do we go from here?
If the pig’s comments constitute misdemeanor you should get evidence by walking by him again, take his photo and get witnesses. If the pig’s comments don’t constitute a misdemeanor you must attempt to understand – not forgive – but understand where he is coming from.
The pig’s comments are at the low end of sexual assault scale (which is at the upper end) but the question is, “Why?” The short answer to the question “Why?” is that there is no answer to the question “Why?” since “Why?” presupposes a rational answer. He has no rational answer but he does have contempt bordering on hate for the female.
Among certain males this is not unusual. To BE male is to have contempt for the female. It’s a part – a large part – of what being male is. Another large part of being male is violence. Put the two together and what do you have? That’s right, a pig. But what does that mean?
It means that in his eyes the female is not really a person, just a semen receptacle. Something he can come into, one way or the other. This may sound like a stretch but it’s not. It has various manifestations. Think of the campus rapes, gang or otherwise. Think of the jihadists for whom women – at least non-Muslim women -are little more than cattle and to be treated as such. Think of the present big deal about educating the pigs about “consent.” That’s an illusion since such “consent” presupposes that the consenter is seen a person, a human being and of course she’s not.
My advice would be to pack a bat, walk by the pig again, and if he repeats his performance, THEN clock him upside the head. It’s the only thing he will understand.
A pleasure as always,
Cheerio!
The REASON she didn’t clock him upside the head comes as a result of a high-profile case in the Valley whereby a homeless man with mental illness (who occasionally said inappropriate things) was burned alive by people who didn’t understand mental illness and were intolerant, like our OB.
Those who supported their efforts will now dislike this comment…
Now Randle… no one bullied anyone and you can’t disrespect a newspaper.
No… Ivan, Meaty, Hing, Molly, Painy, etc were all banned because their opinion was not the popular one. They dared to practice a fundamental element of journalism (free-speech) and were banned as a result.
MORE HOT BLOW
Two Points:
(1) Can you demonstrate that the REASON she didn’t clock him upside the head was owing to the recent high profile case in the Valley? No mention was made of this in the bitch. Do you have special, intuitive and unerring access to the OB’s mind? No, no I didn’t think so.
(2) Can you demonstrate that the REASON they were banned was because “their opinion was not the popular one?” What is the “popular opinion?” What would it look like? Your own? And how do you know the REASON they were banned because “they dared to practice a fundamental element of journalism (free speech) and were banned as a result?” Do you have any grounds for saying that? Or is it just because you happen to have special, intuitive and unerring access to the Mod’s mind? No, no I didn’t think so.
A pleasure as always.
Cheerio!
Are you talking to me or Jesus?
Hmmm, it took a whole 24 hours for the mod to delete my comments. Must have been a fun weekend.
