So, our elected jellyfish and mayor have caved in to a community group who want to maintain a heavily taxpayer funded centre(s), and overturned the decision to sell St. Pats school to a developer. If the new deal remains in place, who will pay to bring the building up to code, continue to provide funding and subsidies, yes; the suckers AKA taxpayers.
The money made from the sale would have covered relocation costs to Shannon Park for these groups and ALL city housing. Time to try and encourage taxpayers into this part of the city.

If indeed it’s discovered that “someone” at city hall didn’t do the right thing and follow procedure before presenting it to council, do you think they’ll get fired,not a bloody chance, same as the $8.5 million fuckadoodledoo at Washamill underpass thingy. Private industry would have your arse out the door pdq if you made a slight 40% cost overrun cock up.
And didn’t the developer say there could easily be a space included for all the organizations in a new place? A nice NEW place? I’m so sick of opposition for the sake of opposition!

I am no fan of city council or the mayor and I agree that something needs to be done with this prime piece of real estate but the problem is, the city doesn’t own the land, DND does. It’s crown land and based on where it is and what would have to be done to bring it up to standards, I don’t think the sale of an old school and the property it sits on would even come close to covering the costs that would be involved. Just my opinion.
But if it were sold to a developer, the government couldn’t tax us for it’s upkeep. And if the government doesn’t tax us for it’s upkeep, how on earth will they misappropriate the public funds we paid for it’s upkeep?
I read about this in the paper & listened to some of the stuff on the radio….& nothing is decided. What you may or may not know is there are clear rules for how old government controled, public use buildings are desposed of & it seems that city staffers, in the zealous pursuit of ridding themselves of a money pit… didn’t follow all the proper steps in ridding the tax payer of paying for all the shite it would take to clean this cesspit up.
So let them go through the process & wait & see that all the I’s are crossed & T’s are dotted, before you go freaking out about what could be nothing.
If there are proceedures to be followed, it is only right Government has to follow them all.

Yeah Vic, I was witness to that abortion of an interview this morning too. That stuttering prick couldn’t answer one single question. The only reason this is getting any attention is that it’s a “black” community and some dumbass media schlub painted it as “Africville all over again”. Fuck off, it’s an old school, which if left vacated in that neighborhood will become nothing but a liability. Instead of the government (us the taxpayer) paying for remediation, it was sold to a developer who is going to build affordable housing and bring change to a struggling neighborhood. Who the fuck cares about some stupid community group that just wants to complain for the sake of complaining. Hopefully the investors pull out, sue the city, and the community group can clean up the dead hookers that end up behind it, and chase away the junkies and dealers that squat in the vacant shithole.
Avast, DND doesn’t own Shannon Park, Crown Assets does. This area was screwed from the time of closure. The units for the most part were in good shape , though on the small size, and if things were done right could have easily became a part of Metro Housing.

I’m all for a review of the process – I just don’t see any calculations in that review that would significantly alter the outcome. The developer offered far more for the property than anyone else, including community groups who may be having trouble keeping themselves afloat, never mind moving to newish digs.
OB what do you expect. The city is afraid of these minority groups. Who knows when the next black person is going to start shooting guns off. That entire area should be sold off to developers and then bring in the bulldozers. That’s the only way to end the poverty and criminal activity in that part of the city. Bring on the development.
