Ummmm, not certain of the details surrounding you plight but if you owe $5K then pay the damn thing! The $10K you presume HRM is spending to take you to court comes from money the rest of us taxpayers paid. Yes, we paid and now you are wasting it. Please, go to Alberta. WE are more frustrated about this than you!
Well, I highly suspect that Halifax IS NOT spending 10k to recover 5k.no one in their right mind would do that, especially anyone with any business sense.
Halifax has lawyers on payroll so therefore it’s part of their job, not an additional cost to the taxpayer.
The court costs will be levied against you as well as any other legal fees incurred. I know this because this was my job years and years ago.
So, takes Koda’s advice. Pay your bills or end up in court. Then go to Alberta.
SOMEONE has no idea how taxes work!!! I like the plan however and I think we’d all be in agreement (except of course your welfare friends and your mom) that you should GTFO of NS and go to the stinky oil sands where your stinky stink face will be more at home.
You must not be rash about going to Alberta. It sounds to me like there’s a job waiting for you at City Hall.
This unfortunate economic gangrene seems to extend to all areas of downtrodden Nova Scotian Business: from being deliberately and repeatedly short-changed at coffee shops to sly bartenders doing the same thing all the way up to Legislative Assembly proceedings.
Granted, I’m only 8 months in to this squalid and shabby Hell wrongly called a Province, yet I notice this dysfunctional psychopathic propensity time and time again! The wretched Scotian masses are so broke they are literally pinching spare change on all levels, two stones throws away from Soviet line-ups for potatoes and hardened-corn. Though this is bothersome and angers me quite a bit, it’s quite sad and pathetic that the standard of so-called living here is about as acceptable as piss in a kitchen sink…
You know the poor kid in the neighborhood whose parents were on Welfare running on foot after all his friends riding bikes? That’s Nova Scotia to the other Provinces: the unwanted tag-along. Now, I’m not being generous in my own personal displeasure in this assertion, I simply call a spade a spade….
Oh! Almost forgot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wDIhn9_UzA
When my Dad was a kid, they played with a stuck and a tire – true story!
Along the lines of penny-pinching, I have a small coffeemaker in my office. Spend $2.75 at Starfucks or $0.50. PINCH! Spend $6.50 for a beer or $2.50 (I like imports). PINCH! And once finished pinching, I go to Europe for 10 days a year, staying a luxury boutique hotel. I taxi to & fro the airports. I shop (using the Euro) without abandon.
And finally, go the fuck back from whence you came or, stop complaining and pass the potatoes… some of us are hungry.

Paingirl, you pesky lil’ internet Liberal, are you following me?
i couldn’t see your link, so i copied it. yes, i am pesky
Fox said, ” from being deliberately and repeatedly short-changed at coffee shops to sly bartenders doing the same thing”
In all my years there has only been once that I had even a suspicion that someone deliberately shortchanged me. It was in a pub back in the 80s or early 90s and I was so shocked by it that it really stuck with me. So, The Fox’s claim of “deliberately and repeatedly” in “coffee shops” and by “sly bartenders”? Really? Have any of the other LTWWB irregulars had that same repeated experience?
I think The Fox is just an ass er spade, myself.
Maybe if OB moved to Alberta, he could find gainful employment and pay off his debts, and not have to deal with all those pesky courts and lawyers and judges that seem to be plaguing him for some reason.
Oil prices are way down, might not be the best time to go out west looking for oil patch work …just sayin’
AHAHAHA why should YOU get a break on your taxes while everyone else pays theirs?
Arsehole.

Well, yeah, More, my screen name is probably a clue that i’m hip to what’s going on in the oil patch.
I was just extolling it’s virtues to OB in the faint hope that he would be enticed enough to wander somewhere far, far away.
Even tho’ Alberta’s fortunes are a little less bright these days, there’s still a chance that even a dimbulb like the OB could plausibly find paid employment there, even if he only needed to earn $5000 to solve whatever his stupid legal problem is.

There are some who call her, Tim.

No, really, this has happened quite a few times in my time here. Enough to notice, put it that way…
It’s not about recovering the 5k from you. It’s about making sure there’s a consequence to not paying your taxes. Otherwise everyone would say, “oh, I only owe 5k… Nothing will happen to me if I don’t pay it.” And that would add very quickly add up to big lost dollars for the city. So yes, it is worth spending 10k to get 5k.
Government needs someone to pay for ads about economic programs that don’t exist.
