Ok, so: I bought a watch from China for $13 and it ships for free and arrives at my mailbox by a Canada Post worker.

Last night, I go to ship the same watch as a gift to a loved one in BC. It doesn’t fit the mail slot so they charged me $20 to ship it.

So let me get this straight: Canadian taxpayers are supporting a system that would allow a foreign company to ship to BC cheaper than I could if I was a Canadian company?

You really can’t make this shit up. It pisses me off.

  1. They used the China Post Group Corporation. They sent it from China, not Canada. Taxpayers are not subsidizing the China Post Group Corporation; we subsidize Canada Post employees.

  2. I order from China all the time, and no, my taxes aren’t supporting this. China’s way of shipping happens to be much cheaper due to a number of variables, however the downside is that often it’s much slower unless you pay extra for express or priority options. You’re talking about two different corporations, one of which doesn’t even use the same shipping method. This is nothing new, FYI. I get amazingly cheap shipping on items from Russia and the Ukraine, too. Not from the US though, which may be a customs thing or something to do with the CAD to USD price conversion.

  3. Tax dollars don’t subsidize the Canada Post Corporation. It’s the other way around.
Canada Post contributes millions annually to the federal treasury.
In 2017, between declining mail services and increased package delivery, CP still posted $144 million in profit.
