Ever since I got to Halifax, I have loved the city and love the people in it. For the most part, everyone is quite friendly and seem to understand the social standard. The one thing though that I don’t understand is how there are so many homeless people in such a small area. Now, I’m not bitching about the homeless people, I’m bitching about how about 75% of them smoke cigarettes. Who is going to pay for them while in the hospital, us that’s who. The tax payers of this country. That is what I came here to bitch about. Thank you. —A Concerned Student

lolz
well o.p., i’m going to tell you why. they aren’t really homeless at all, just your everyday street corner panhandlers. the ones that make more in a day, tax free, than you or most people get in a week of hard fucking work.
i hope that helps to clarify why you see so many of them. you can make more cash on a corner, after you pay your rent, for said corner, to bruce.
Poor concerned student… still working on your psych paper, huh?? Ha ha. Another homeless bitch. With a 123% chance of there being a random fact presented to stir up controversy.
Homeless bitch, smoking bitch and aggrieved taxpayer bitch all in one. I’d say our resident Dr. Phil(led with shite) is expanding her horizons.
deja-vu?
been there, done that??
boring. ass. bitch.
Oh no, homeless people smoking? I wonder if they have any other terrible addictions or problems taxpayers will have to pay for!
You honestly think that the best way for taxpayers to save money is by convincing homeless people to stop smoking? Give your head a shake. I think the homeless people would agree, there are bigger problems for us to deal with.
You really think Halifax has that many homeless? Try taking a stroll through Winnipeg or Vancouver’s downtown east side! That’ll blow you mind and probably give you a whole new angle of people to criticize, those freeloading o.ding junkies.
Most of these people will need health care at some point, regardless of if they smoke, do drugs or drink. So it’ll cost either way. There are so many other areas where our tax $ do less than anything i would criticize first. These people have it so bad, I don’t care if they smoke. Plus playing devils advocate, those that do die from smoking, offset years of welfare, social assistance and long term care once they’re old. Unless you have some kind of statistics to back up that treating lung cancer is more expensive than all these other factors, this bitch is just plain pretentious.
Welfare HOES that don’t close their legs are far more wasteful to our social programs. At least the hobos that look like cavemen probably aren’t pumping out babies.
Fucking bums. Worst is the one that walks in the middle of the street near the ramps to the bridge, just asking to be hit by a vehicle. Can’t we just take the money that they want to dump into a new trade center and gather all Halifax’s homeless and ship them to Cape Breton?
Statistically, smokers cost taxpayers *less* money, because they die sooner. They don’t hang on to old age for an extra 10 – 20 years, sucking the health care system dry with various age-related illnesses.
riiiiiiiigghht, they cost us less.
“We” “pay for” everyone who smokes when they get in the hospital, you fucking dumbhole.
“Everyone here is quite friendly and seems to understand the social standard” Gag. And WHERE are you from, OP? You seem to to think you’re quite sophistocated…yet before you arrived to Halifax, you didn’t know there was such a thing as a smoking bum. Oh, my!!!
Yeah, we do pay for smokers in the hospital but then they DIE of lung cancer (very quickly) or emphysema or heart disease. The non-smokers stay ALIVE for years and years, and drain our health care system with Alzheimer’s, heart attacks, strokes, endometrial cancer, cataracts, osteoarthritis, gout, Parkinson’s, prostate cancer, Prostatitis, hyper-fuking-tension, dyspepsia, diabetes, broken hips…you get the picture. You can’t argue with statistics man.
