This is to the prick who paid the bill of the table of 17 I waited on Valentine’s Day: Your friends/family were the most wonderful people and I enjoyed serving them. I waited on everyone, including you, hand and foot. That was fine. They were warm, happy and friendly. You, not so much. You were sullen and a bit cranky and never thanked me for anything. At the end of everyone’s visit, you proceeded to pay debit. No tip. My issue wasn’t you not leaving a tip but it was what I caught you doing afterwards. I was cleaning off tables nearby and saw some of the other guests pulling out cash and saying along the lines of “We’ll cover the tip.” “Nah, I put the tip on debit. Don’t worry about it.” You tell them! So, obviously, the rest of them put away their money. What the fuck! Clearly, my service didn’t suck because why were several of them pulling out money and discussing the tip? I really wanted to tell them privately that you didn’t tip a dime on debit but that’s incredibly unprofessional so I kept my mouth shut and dealt with the 0% tip on the $227 bill. You, sir, are a pathetic excuse for a human being. I don’t know how you’re even associated with these fine people. I do know they would have been absolutely disgusted with your behaviour if they knew what I know. —Your friends and family would have been ashamed

  1. wow! I actually think this a valid tipping bitch!

not tipping is douchey, but to then stop everyone else from tipping when you know you haven’t…. that’s just prickish

  2. I would have said something along the lines “You did? There must be something wrong with the machine because it didn’t register the tip. Here let me show you”. Then watch the prick squirm. Some people don’t tip and that’s their perogative, but to say you did tip and didn’t is inexcusable and deserves a slap upside the head.

  3. Yep, totally and completely a valid bitch. It’s more a bitch about lying than tipping and that’s never cool.

  4. this happened to the bear when he was a watron, he called the guy out on it. dude paid with his platinum card and scooped all the money that was left for the tip…his dinner guests were disgusted, i don’t think they ate with him again

  5. I deem this a valid I Didn’t Get a Tip Bitch. Use whatever ‘karma’ credit you get wisely, I don’t hand these out every day.

  6. Wow…very valid bitch…what a douch bag. I think it would have been hard to bite my tongue if I were this server. Good on you OP. I`m sure you deserved a very big tip.

  7. I used to be a server and one day I served a table of about 15 with children, I kept the children occupied with activities suggested food to order and kept everyone happy. They left me $5 on a $300 + bill. I followed them out of the restaurant and asked them why they felt that was appropriate after all I did for them. I also let them know that 15% is standard tip to leave in our country. They started reaching into their pockets and stuffing my hand with money. hahaha.
    I am not a server anymore….

  8. Sounds like another case of urban baboonism.

On your behalf, I am conjuring an image of said offender and I am crushing this urban baboon’s skull with a heavy cash register. There . . . done!

There’s blood, brains and bone everywhere, but don’t worry. I’ll send the ‘cleaners’ around to take care of the mess.

  9. Mark your calendars, remember this day forever! A valid bitch on not getting a tip. We’ve trained them well <3

  10. Was it a slip of his finger on the machine? Or a valid “Screw this shit” no tip? If the person was in a bad mood, there must be a reason. Did you inquiry by asking him “You seem upset. Is everything okay?” Or did you just stare at the ATM device and notice he didn’t put a tip in? Then again, 15% tip, or $34.05 does seem excessive. OP, it’s tax season…be sure to report your tips.

  11. there should be an automatic tip included in the price, when pying by debit. barring that, the person should have just given it to you in cash.
i know a lot of wait staff, and i really feel for you here. the vast majority of you folks give extremely good service, you should be making a hell of a lot more cash.
there should be a way, that there is at least 20% thrown into all prices over 25 bucks. usually i spend about 150-200 when i go out for an evening with some friends, not including booze.

  12. I am surprised a restuarant would not include automatic gratuity on a party of 17. You see that written on the bottom of most menus or is that just me?
I would not have been able to hold my tongue for sure. Why would he prevent other party members from tipping? It is pretty rude borderline agressive. I feel for ya OP that sucks.

  13. This isn’t IMO about tipping.
    This is about Lying.
I would definately had said something, not to get a tip from that asshole, nor would I want money from his ‘friends’….but just so I could watch him squirm.
That would be more than worth not getting tipped. Liars deserve to be confronted at every opportunity. ITs the only way you’ll get them to rethink their bullshit, especially if you can prove they’re as liar in front of people they supposedly ‘care’ for !

  14. I thought that a 15% gratuity was automatically added to the bill for a large table, say, over 10. I guess not all restaurants do this?

  15. I wouldn’t go to a restaurant like that. A tip is exactly that, a tip, to be freely given, whatever the amount. If it’s on a bill then it is a surcharge.

  16. I used to be a server at a very nice restuarant when I was in university. I had large tables all the time. I have never had this issue, but if I had of I would have been so livid. Large tables are hard, especiallly when they are demanding.
