i’m still waiting to be cher in clueless.
and to be the cheerleader dating the football player.
or to just live out one of those pre-planned cookie cutter lives that *work* for people.
instead i’m a statistic, six ways from sunday.
i can change the course of my life if i want to, but i’m still going to end up the same place everyone else does.
whether or not i own a house, or a car. if i ever have a career, or get married, or have children.
i still have to live in a society that’s falling apart, under societal norms i find abhorrent.
the three big C’s, consumerism, capitalism, conservatism……………..
therefore, i’m beginning to debate the other side of life.
maybe, just maybe, if every individual strived for nothing more than their own happiness, contentment, serenity.
and showed nothing but the same for everyone they encountered.
then i wouldn’t have to be sitting here cruising an obstacle course between minimum wage and liveable income. —i <3 halifax

  1. You’re asking for the end to ambition and the need for a competitive edge amongst us all. That is a lot to ask, it flies in the face of of human nature which is to exploit every opportunity for one’s own gain. Everyone wants a just and fair not to mention kind society but I don’t know if that’s possible. The ability is there but not the will.
We unfortunately tend to measure ourselves against others and that need to measure is always going to create an imbalance negating the possibility of a Utopian society. You lament minimum wage meaning you want more which is a part of consumerism and hard to escape.
I really want the same things as you OL, I really do and I feel a lot of people do but I just feel the human species is not strong enough morally or philosophically to put society’s needs or the planet’s needs before their own.
I’m not on a soapbox here telling people what to do, I really think they already know. Most people live and think day-to-day and don’t think far into the future considering those generations of people.
Sorry I don’t mean to be a downer in the Love section and on a sunny Friday.

  2. Agreed!

We’re too left brained as a society and there’s not enough love being projected into the world. Also people don’t understand enough about the world, understanding which I believe is what breeds compassion, forgiveness and desire to change for the better.

Just don’t ever tell yourself that your life will turn out like one of your mundane, ordinary, bland lives described in your post.

Tell yourself EVERYDAY that your life is awesome and continually getting better. See the value in every little thing in your life and appreciate it. This appreciation for life and belief that life is getting better will move you closer to how you would like to live

Well done, you ain’t no fool

  3. dear ‘less than’ do you want to be like the anonymous masses? really?

you’d have to control the gag reflex to swallow all that crap.

sounds like you already know you are different. if you really want to be one of the hive, get a lobotomy.
a liveable income is a sliding scale kind of thing. depends on what you call liveable. if you lived in a warm climate all you would need is a wooden bowl and 3 yards of cloth.

  4. hey klyde….yes, it’s all relative and depends what you are measuring against.

5 seconds is not much, unless it is during excruciating agony.

$5 isn’t much, unless you live on the streets of mexico city.

and I agree with reg, humans as a species cannot overcome their own urge to grab, no matter what harm it does. we dinos are creating our own meteor strike.
