Every school in the province closed EXCEPT Dal. WTF?!?!?! Dal students are not expendable. Our safety matters, too. Have you been checking the social media sites? We’ve been roasting you all morning.

Thanks for finally coming to your senses and closing Dal at noon. But next time, remember that your inattentiveness meant that the better part of 16,000 students and 2,000 employees had to commute in afternoon weather conditions where road safety was deteriorating. If you have canceled classes in the morning, things would have been safer for us. — I matter, too.

  1. My BCP computer got hosed the night before…
I had to try to sleep knowing I was going to have to make it into the office in that shit and, more importantly, make it back home as well.

And in the end it was no biggie.
I got home 10 minutes later than usual.
Hell, they only paused the buses for 45 mins.

  2. You did not have to do anything …. I woke, looked outside, checked the weather, sent an email to staff, went back to bed.

You could have stayed the fuck home too!

  3. Oh ffs, it didn’t even start snowing that badly until noon-ish.

    And what Koda said.

  4. Ah, the poor, hard done by student, I bet if they were offering beer for half price at one of the swill shops your arse would’ve been there.

  5. OP if you’re saying DAL students aren’t expendable and your safety matters! THEN START LOOKING WHEN CROSSING THE DAMN STREET!!!! 3, 3 students just walked my bus was mid turn and they didn’t even look and just walked almost getting hit by the bus!!!

  6. Booo fuckin hoo. My work didn’t shut down till 12:30.

Thats what to expect when you grow up and get a job.

  7. Sketchy yes… but there were so few cars that slow and steady would get you where you needed to go with little difficulty.

  8. Yeah that’s the other thing. IT professionals notwithstanding, most professionals have to get to work and are expected to be there.

Your safety IS important. So is the safety of ER doctors. But try being a doctor and using the snow day excuse.

    Not going to happen. Ever.

One of the reasons Dal stays open is because of its location. SMU is also a downtown school so you can make that argument but it DOES make sense that the Mount closes on snow days (bedford highway being a dangerous fucking place when the highways are bad) but Dal doesn’t. (downtown being the first area to get any attention at all – why? Because people are expected to show up for work and most of them work downtown) To say nothing of my AM, acadia, where it’s not only rural but in the valley. Which gets far more dramatic winter weather than the entirety of halifax.

And, as has already been mentioned, you don’t HAVE to show up. This isn’t grade 9. This is a private educational institution where you, an ADULT, pay to be there.

Nobody gives a damn if you miss a day due to a storm. If you have an attendance problem and missing the snow day was one too many, you can’t blame the school.

  9. Think of it this way op. You’re happy to miss a day if you’re sick. Understandably because you shouldn’t be walking into a room of 250 people with the flu. You don’t think about it then.

So? Weather is bad? If you’re a good student and don’t have an attendance issue, miss the day.

Trust me, missing a few days here and there isn’t going to kill your GPA unless it’s already in the toilet.
