I am so irritated and annoyed with the ignorance of some pet owners. Yes, those frozen rats I buy at the pet store are for my pet snake. I only have to feed her and clean her turds once every two weeks. For a busy university student, she’s pretty much the best pet ever. So what’s the problem? The idiotic looks and indecent remarks I get when I’m picking up my snake’s lunch.
I am just the cruelest person in the world for feeding her a “cute,” “fuzzy” little rat. We’ll listen here lady, if you’re not vegan, where does your food come from, dear virtuous honourable citizen?
How disgraceful of me to feed my snake a rat that had a rapid instantaneous blow to the head immediately rendering it unconscious. But you, oh you’re a saint. Well you remember that bacon that was on your plate this morning? To get there, little mister piggy had his scrotum painfully slit with a razor blade and testicles ripped out by a human hand, all with no anesthetics at five days old.
Oh, the brutality of a rat being exposed to CO2, also known as the best way to provide a quick humane death according to Stanford University. You remember that hamburger you had for lunch? That came from a dairy cow that had three calves in her lifetime, all taken away from her. She developed mastitis, now in agonizing pain, and extremely malnourished she gets ripped away from the only herd she ever knew. Stuck on a truck with cows she doesn’t know. She travelled over 10 hours not being milked or fed. Her udders becoming swollen red, as the infection goes untreated. She had to endure all this excruciating pain and distress. Just to meet her unkind faith, the hamburger on your plate.
So before you so ignorantly judge what my snake eats, find out where the food you so eagerly gorge yourself upon came from. —Annoyed Snake Mom

Your post makes me want to cry for all the cows. And stray cats. And then abused kids. And elderly…if I keep this up, I will be a blubbering mess in no time. This human race is unkind to each other, and any other thing it wants to be unkind to…I hate people.

People ARE unkind, Kontee, but sometimes its through ignorance and not intentional. If someone doesn’t think animals ‘feel’ or ‘hurt’ like we do, then it’s a lot easier to eat ’em and mistreat ’em.
OB, would a vegan be allowed to judge you? Someone who never eats meat? It’s a weird situation because you’re not really the one harming animals, just providing what one animal craves (which just so happens to be other animals) I’d like to see a vegan justify not feeding a python animal products. i had this exact argument with someone not too long ago.
I had a hedgehog once. I fed him a bunch of interesting foods including freeze dried crickets. He loved the fuck out of those crickets. Someone bitched me out about it, claiming that freeze drying crickets was a cruel food source. This person had a cat and i asked her how she felt about cat food.
“That’s totally different OBVIOUSLY..” she said “Cat food is PELLETS.. made in a FACTORY. It’s a FORMULA”

I was shocked when a friend told me people feed ferel kittens to snakes.Jesus,some people can be mean and some people sre terribly mean just for kicks;then they deny everything. 🙁 🙁

Good post OP. Snakes are carnivores by nature, if it is an insect or amphibian they eat, people tend to care less but if it is a rodent, a furry mammal, it is bothersome. Understandable as we are mammals.
Snakes are pets to some and they have to eat to survive, thankfully they are ectothermic and do not need to eat a lot to feed a high metabolism. To be eaten by snakes is the fate many a rat all over the world. The black rat snake is a common household resident in rural India to control the healthy rodent population there.
Face it OP, the person you talking to probably doesn’t like snakes, period. That probably drives a lot of their sentiment.
