To the fucking driver who was smoking on an empty bus on Quinpool Road. You asshole, should know you DO NOT smoke on the bus, period. I know now why many of the buses stink of smoke; it is because you fucking drivers smoke on them when you are alone. The non-smoking sign is over your fucking head. Look at it before you decide to be a jerk and smoke while driving and spread your fucking stink in the bus. I will be reporting you. —Watching You

It would explain why the dash is always dusty. Anyhoo, drivers aren’t exempt from the no smoking rules, and on top of that, it’s against Smoke Free Places Act. They do this at their own risk, be it risk of complaint or risk of getting pulled over.
So did you report the bus# and the route? Have a pic?
Geez, glad you saw him do it. It would have been hard to distinguish it from the prevalent smell of cologne/perfume and body odor that’s usually there.
a cop pulling over an empty bus would be pretty good youTube fodder…
yada, yada, yada, who fucking cares o.p., really, who fucking cares.
Nobody obeys the no smoking signs at the terminals. Why should they do it on the bus? The difference between between the driver’s seat and two feet outside the door is negligible.
Because he’s getting paid tax dollars, OC, that’s why. Even just the fact that he’s on the job, regardless if it’s public or private money, he’s doing his job, while on duty he should obey the rules.
Smokers are soo fucking annoying. Everyone I know smokes and really have the nerve to look at me sideways when I ask them to step outside on my apt balcony, CLOSE THE FUCKING DOOR BEHIND THEM BECAUSE I PAY FOR HEAT, and have their smoke. Or I’ll be on a road trip to Montreal in my brand new car at the time and they just CAN’T HANDLE the injustice of not being able to smoke in my car. Not like it depreciates the re-sale value by thousands of dollars or anything. They just keep asking and asking and asking like it’s their right to smoke wherever they want. You can only take so much of this shit and I’ll be damned if I pull over every half hour on an 18 hour drive to let them have their smoke, so rather than drive my car into upcoming highway traffic I eventually give in. They just can’t take no for an answer. Fuck you if you smoke. They all claim to have and use proper etiquette but they don’t. They’re worse than fucking crackheads.
And LS, those of us who don’t smoke and don’t enjoy the stench and the health risks or second hand smoke, care. I bet you smoke.
It’s public transportation and it’s illegal. Driver should be at least suspended without pay. Bus drivers seem to really think they’re invincible, but that’s another rant for another day.
As if Metro Transit is going to care. Their drivers are unionized and can do whatever they like without reprimand. So go ahead, light up, hell give the driver a pack…..you’ll be doing him/her a favor by speeding up their lung cancers 🙂
tommy jules, you want to have a smoke, every couple of hours is what you’d have wait travelling in my vehicle.
Although I would a happily stop sooner & leave you & your stuff on the side of the road if my wish to only stop occassionally is too hard on you ~;p
LS as an asmatic, I’ve got no problem with people smoking outside or in designated areas & was one who wrote letters to my MLA when they decided to do one of the most stupid ideas in years…shut down smoking rooms.
But there are those of us who suffer because of cigarette second hand smoke, & I’m not talking long term I’m talking instantly. Picture trying to breath with Rita from Cape Breton sitting on your chest ! But I still have no problem with smokers smoking outside a building…I just wish the smoking rooms in bars ,resturants & other places were still in place.
lol yeah More, I hear ya. It’s hard though when you’re the only person in the car that doesn’t smoke, and it’s your car. My other pet smoking peeve is when I’m in a car in the dead of winter and these motherfuckers gotta roll the window down to have their smoke every so often. It’s bloody freezing and unpleasant, but I guess it’s better than a hot boxed car full of cigarette smoke.
I’m sorry but I really do think smokers are fucking idiots. Especially if you were old enough to know better when you started. Like some follks been smoking since they were 14 or 15, I can sympathize, but if you were over or around 18, and started smoking, you’re a fucking moron. If you’re going to kill yourselves just do the rest of us a favor and don’t slowly kill us in the process.
lol I like this bitch cuz I hate smokers and bus drivers. Both could really stand to learn some god damn manners. I mean nothing personal. I guess hate’s a strong word, like I said all my friends smoke. Their gross habits just piss me off.
Actually tommyjules, I have several friends who smoke & have seen me suffer an asthma attack. They all understand, its not me bitching to hear the sound of my voice…I literally choke up & can’t catch my breath.
They seem to have no problem understanding that, & even if we’re outside doing something, I’ll get the ‘warning’ …”I’m going to have a smoke” But outside is ok, the chemicals in cigarette smoke have to be right in my face for me to start to have an attack.
I’m willing to bet money there are lots of people who don’t smoke & who have friends that do & they are equally considerate.
I’d also like to clarify I don’t consider smokers outside buildings smoking or bus stops etc. to be ‘in the wrong’ …STUPIDITY by antismoking nazi’s & Gov officials with no common sense, has put them there by taking away their smoking rooms & if the Gov is allowed to collect massive amounts of tax money. They should be mandated to allow designated smoking areas for those who partake. In other words bring back smoking rooms.
Best thing I ever quit…
TJ: It is so very sad that people allow tobacco companies to control their lives so extensively.
I wonder how many smokers detest nanny states? Whether controlled by legislation or manipulated by the addition to tobacco of addictive chemicals, is it still not allowing others to control one’s behaviour as witnessed by the car trip to Montreal?
you can smoke anything you want…in my backyard
“yada, yada, yada, who fucking cares o.p., really, who fucking cares.” ~Suckers
… those of us who don’t want to smell the stink of cigarette smoke when we get on the bus care. That shit gets into the seats and other porous surfaces on the bus. Smokers might not notice it because they’re used to the smell, but those of us who don’t have no desire to breathe that stank in while we’re on the bus. Some of us actually get quite nauseous when we smell it.
“Best thing I ever quit…”
Me, too 🙁 Damn, I surely do miss smoking, though. Nothing like sitting back with a pint of your favourite, some friends, and your chosen 25-pack of smokey death. The annual bad chest cold, the stained teeth, the general ill-health, the smell, expense, etc? I don’t miss that so much.
I expect I’ll dream about smoking tonight … again.
You can complain to Metro Transit but guess what that will get you. Squat Frigger All
Im glad I’m not a smoker
Legit question, Why don’t people drink the tap water here?
I do drink the tap water here in Cole Harbour. I find it’s better on this side than in Hali. Personally, I know most bottled water is just filtered tap water so I just save my money and fill up from the tap/fountain. I see bottled water as a waste of money.
Ok, I’m just wondering. I went to refill my bottle from the tap at work and someone gave me the stink eye and said “don’t you know that’s bad for you” … I guess she’s misinformed?
I can’t get past the stink of water in Dartmouth.
I can smell the chemicals in it…as soon as the taps turned on at my dads, there’s that chemical odour.
Probably one of those “OMF theys gonna kill you with the flouride” people. Our tapwater is the best in the country. The only thing I can advise is to keep it in the refrigerator, uncovered, overnight so any chlorine (which is used everywhere) will disapate, making the water even better.
Oh I’m so proud, I never said nutjob CT (Conspiracy Theorist) people.
I’ve been on a bus, where the driver smoked out the window. It was the beginning of a very early morning route, and there was usually just me and another guy on there. I have a tendency to sit in the back, and so I guess he thought I wouldn’t notice. I’m a smoker, so its not like I’m going to report him, but it still kind of pissed me off, because anyone who has ever smoked knows, when you smell a smoke, you want a smoke, but If I had lit up, there would have been a problem.
I think it was about day 5 or 6 when I got on his bus, I told him, If you light up this morning, I am too!
Never happened again.
Smoking is beyond addictive, and yes, it’s worse than crack or heroin. .. but it’s funding your healthcare. What would happen if we all stopped? Where would our government get funding? Smoking rooms should definitely come back .. or at the least, fuck off about the damn smoking at bus stops. About 3/4 of bus riders are smokers.. we can’t afford to drive because we are paying your damn health care! Fuck off and leave us alone on the damn sidewalk, in a park, anywhere outside! It’s ridiculous when you stuck up people walk past and force a fake f’n cough too!
How very rude, right up there with the fuckin hospital staff who use the bus shelters as their private smoking lounges. Like hell cig taxes pay for the health care….they barely cover the cost to society for their fuckin addiction and diseases and all that will afflict them years later.
Smokers have rights, they do not have privileges. Don’t forget it asswipes.
It’s not funding MY healthcare — you smokers sustain yourselves. Don’t kid yourself MEEshell72 — the taxes collected on smokes are spent on all the crap smoking causes to one’s health.
It really frosts my cupcakes when smokers go on about how the taxes they pay on cigarettes pays for the health care system. It doesn’t. It pays for YOUR lung cancer treatment and YOUR respiratory disease treatment as it should.
If we didn’t have smokers clogging up the system, we wouldn’t NEED the taxes collected on their smokes.
“yes, it’s worse than crack or heroin” prove it.
cupcakes = yum
Awesome! Finally a bus driver I can believe in

So basically all you anti-smokers should get your facts straight and STFU.
“Lung cancer is a cheap disease to treat because people don’t survive very long,”
Truer words have never been spoken – not exactly compassionate words, but really, self harm is self harm. And those are the facts
Yeah well it’s not exactly just self harm when your second hand smoke is blowing in the faces of non smokers who get to breathe that shit in.
There was this tranny on the bus this morning — standing right in front of me — smelled like fucking smoke and I got to smell that shit all the way to SS. I had a mild headache when I got up and now it’s RAGING because of that stink. So forgive me if I don’t have much sympathy for the bullshit that is “smoker’s rights.” (ha!)
My head hurts so much right now and I feel so sick to my stomach that i could cut someone.
Thank goodness you didn’t inhale any other toxins on the way to Scotia Square – luckily now that industry and automobiles have been outlawed in this province you only have second hand smoke to deal with 🙂
Heh
good god, you all sound like those government commercials…
and tommy, sounds like you just have a lot of douche friends.
I’m surprised you’re not blaming natives for presenting the gift of tobacco to us.
There are things in second hand smoke that people are allergic to which can give them headaches, migraines and nausea. Yeah I hate complaining about it because it seems that that fact is another one smokers like to dismiss and call one a pussy about but it’s true and it’s a shit feeling to not be able to walk around the city or get on a bus without getting a headache or nausea but whateva, it’s a free country right? On the whole cancer thing versus money spent on health care and what not, I don’t really care. What I care about is that I’m going to have to witness people that I love going through hell and dying a horrible death because they chose to smoke. Thanks guys! Why not think about how your choice is going to affect your family and friends if you care so little about your own life? Ug. Nooo. I keep telling myself I’d never debate smokers again.
fucking pussies.
Got lots of spare time on your hands, OP? I hate the smell of secondhand smoke too, but to tattle on someone because of it? The bus was empty; get over yourself! I’ve taken lots of busses where not only are there smoking drivers in a jampacked bus, there were chickens clucking right behind my head. Jeepers, I really can’t stand how the coddled mentality of some people. Get OVER it!!
But it’s the law! ^^ And for good reason!
For fucks sakes? 2nd hand smoke harms much less than the damn fumes coming from the fucking bus!!
Thanks dartmouthy for the links that show what it is I was trying to say.
It’s not a law for good reason. It’s a law with no real reason, except stuck up rich fuckers who rule the government with back room b.s. and blowjobs (PETER) You do remember this started in BEDFORD don’t y’all?? In Bedford we weren’t allowed to smoke on the sidewalk for a while.. until he had the wrong person’s kid ticketed. And.. also, when you take into consideration that those health conscious fools are clogging up our doctors offices and emergency rooms with every f’n runny nose, we won’t have healthcare in a few years!!
My comment about we wouldn’t have health care w/o smokers — MY DOCTOR told me that one!
Now why don’t we legalize the marijuana too, so that we can recover the income we’re losing with the healthy wave.. or did it not occur to you people that this is WHY there is a push for this every few years from someone in power now?
… but it’s the law?? Oh my. Wow. Oh and those ‘alergen things’ in ciggies? 98% of those are in car exhausts too.. but they won’t take those beasts of the roads because we “need” them. The allergies are your own fault too. Shoulda got a little dirty once in a while. You wouldn’t have them.
I think you need new friends tommyjules, if they’re going to kick up a fuss about smoking on a balcony. Generally I find most smokers to be polite and they always ask where they should go to smoke.
lol they were cool before they started smoking! I swear! And they don’t kick up a fuss, they just gradually try to weasel their way back in the house, inches at a time. It’s not the smoke that bothers me it’s the respect and the coldness. For some reason they don’t like to go all the way outside and shut the door. I get cold pretty quick. I hate being uncomfortable in my own place.
