I am so fucking sick of all these goddamn reports about the evils of smoking – this morning, it was ‘Smoking Costs $1 Billion A Year’ – o.k. genuises – here’s the solution: MAKE CIGARETTES ILLEGAL!!! The evidence is there, what are you waiting for, you government pricks? Oh, yeah, the tax revenue. What a fucking bunch of hypocrites.

No wonder 25% of Nova Scotian’s smoke, smokers are so well taken care of by EVERYONE’S tax dollars hahaThe real problem is this state run socialist Medicare system we as Canadians seem to love.Everyone is out to make smokers guilty for the fact they are costing everyone else billions of dollars..Heres a solution – Dismantle the costly state run socialist Medicare system.Introduce free market health care, that is much higher in quality and quantity.Take the taxes off cigarettes and booze.Make everyone pay for their own health insurance. If I choose to smoke, then I pay higher insurance costs, simple as that. Then individuals are truly accountable for THEIR choices and actions. Smokers will know that any damage they do to them selves will have to be paid BY THEM, not society.Instead we have the nanny state taking care of us from cradle to grave, entitlement rules the roost. My body, my rules! Let me, as an individual be responsible for my actions…Thats the only way to get people to quit smoking!
The government will never ban tobacco no matter how much evidence of its’ long term cost they are confronted with. Today’s government relies on the revenue from tobacco taxes right now. By the time today’s smokers are dying in the hospital draining the health care system dry, the financial consequences of their past choices will be some OTHER government’s problem.
wow I’m for the health care system what about poor people who cannot afford the care. Smokers have the right to smoke they pay the hefty tax on the cigarettes
Great suggestion Mike. I hope you break your arm someday and you can absorb the $4000 cost of seeking medical treatment. I agree that smokers cost us a lot of money but dismantling healtcare certainly isn’t the approach to take.
Mike, go watch SICKO. Let me know if you still want free market health care and if you still want to smoke. BTW most smokers are unable to get health insurance.
I Have seen sicko Michael, and Raoul I understand what you are talking about. I guess it just angers me that there is no accountability for choices people make that pre-dispose them to a much higher need for health care.
I agree with that point Mike. I think cigarettes should cost $30 a pack with $10 going directly towards health care and $10 going directly towards stopping people from smoking in the first place and at that price it should deter a lot of people from smoking. And $5 dollars of what’s left will go towards more police because people will do anything to get there nic fix.
Why would anyone believe anything that is in a Michael Moore mockumentary is factual?
Fubar is a mockumentary. This is Spinal Tap is a mockumentary. Sicko and other Michael Moore films are opinionated documentaries where the opinions stated and formed in the film are based on facts.
One way the goverment could cut costs due to smoking is make people pay for treatments to smoking related deseases. They chose to smoke, so they should pay for the consequences. Likewise anything that’s someones fault, they probably should be paying for it… Not everyone. You drink and drive and get into a car accident… You probably should be paying for it since you drank and drove. Might seem cold…. Though it only makes sense…
