Please don’t. :/ I won’t even say this in an asshole way. Just please don’t smoke inside of bus stops when it’s raining especially. NONE of us there wanted to inhale your disgusting cigarettes. If you want to kill yourself, do it in the rain away from people who value their lives and away from CHILDREN please. Christ, have some manners. —Don’t care if you smoke, just have some manners

I hate when people smoke where they shouldn’t.
On a side note everybody is doing a pretty good job of ignoring Blip or Wogdog or whoever they are. Keep up the good work!
No one is trying to ignore me. They ignore the truth and cannot accept the faults that I present them with. I try to make myself and my intentions clear, but there are always those that are combative with positive change.

Smokers have no conception of the smell their habit carries. Yes OP, you could tell them to butt out or smoke outside the enclosure but that would entail thinking about someone other than themselves, a train of thought sorely lacking these days. It would also get confrontational because to acquiesce at that very moment would be considered a sign of weakness. Just carry a big ass can of bathroom spray (from the dollar store preferably) and keep spraying until you have four trillion molecules of carcinogen-charged, Chinese manufactured, juniperesque-scented air jam packed into that enclosure.
As a nonsmoker, I’d like to bring up IMO a couple of important points, look at the cost of those shelters. Paid for by rider fares & tax funding …who pays more taxes a smoker/bus rider or just a bus rider ? THen there’s the fairness option, why do they have to go out into the rain, its you O.B. put out by their smoke, why can’t you simply move out of the shelter inot the rain?
Now while i will admit its been awhile since I’ve stood in a shelter, I do remember the one at the Dartmouth side of the bridge. THat old bus terminal, had no doors on it, the bottom of the shelter walls didn’t go to the ground, it was breezy cold …all it had going for it, was you could get out of the rain.
Finally in the bars & restaurants , out on the decks they have smoking deck space & nonsmoking areas, where you are outside & both groups can enjoy the weather while on the businesses deck. WHy not the same thing for bus stops a smoking & nonsmoking side of each shelter, everyone can get out of the rain & because they are so well ventilated (you are outside) everyone can then F^(#@!! and try to get along ….have a nice day.~:)

The smoking bus riders pay more tobacco tax because they smoke. Besides the point here is the annoyance of having to breathe in that smelly toxic stuff second-hand. It is a health hazard and one down the road we’ll have to pay for with.. .. more taxes. I’m talking about smokers and the poor unfortunates that had to breathe second-hand smoke and developed lung cancer.
A partitioned shelter isn’t a bad idea. It might go towards solving some of the conflict.
Now this is a bitch i can get behind. More, you have to go outside because shelters are confined spaces where smoke doesn’t easily escape. Add to that that the city has deemed it illegal to smoke in them. Not that all laws make sense but this one does.
Cripes, buy an umbrella.. Or wait.
Smoking isn’t something you HAVE to do. It can wait an hour without your brain exploding.
The less you smoke, the better for you. And the less likely you’ll get back all those taxes you’re volunteering to pay.
I know a smoker who chews on rainy days when she takes the bus. Nicotine gum gets her through her two hour commute so she doesn’t have to worry about it either way.
Smoking in bus shelters is illegal. Period.
Perhaps a little, laminated card with that on it to be presented to said smoker would be a handy thing to keep on one’s self.

Totally agree. I’m pregnant so I’d rather not inhale smoke, and was standing in a bus shelter on a rainy day while a woman hot-boxed it with her cigarette smoke. Who does she think she is?
