Just a big old fuck you to the ppl who need to walk on busy streets smoking cigarettes. I love getting behind you and getting face fulls of smoke. I dont think there is any law against smoking while walking even if there was i dont think it would help those smoke 15 feet away from building signs might as well be ash trays…just amazes me to see how inconsiderate ppl can be with out even seemingly know ing it…u want somewhere to smoke try ur home so u can keep ur smoke to your self

  1. I haaaate seeing bitches aboust smokers. I myself am not a smoker, however, smokers go through enough bullshit . Can’t smoke here, can’t smoke there..They aren’t allowed to smoke anywhere…So, everyone ease off a bit and cut them some slack. People have jobs and places to be, and when someone needs a cigarette, they need it and are gonna have it and don’t give me any of that “they should just quit” bullshit. Maybe what this person was doing was a bit inconsiderate, but people needs to see how inconsiderate they have become towards smokers.Lay off!!!

  2. I agree with Jenn , but also in the same time I am an asthmatic, and walking into a store shouldn’t cause me to have a puffer, just that if smokers could smoke away from doors I’d appreciate it, other than that if you guys want to smoke it up more power to ya!

  3. I am sure there are a multitude of things we all do to piss people off on a daily. I don’t smoke, but I sure as hell don’t bitch about the people who do. It’s like non-smokers suddenly don’t have the option to walk somewhere else.Everyone has options, right? I just hope I am standing close so I can hear a smoker exercise his/her option to tell these little whiners to go F themselves.

  4. You don’t have to cross a street to get out of the way of cigarette smoke, just let the smoker get a few more paces ahead of you if it bothers you that much. I think the point about the car exhaust and coal plants is that they probably affect your health more than an occasional whiff of smoke from a pedestrian smoker. Unless your genes are completely screwed up to begin with, the occasional waft of second-hand smoke out in the open air is hardly going to increase your rick of cancer. Non-smokers can be so paranoid about cigarettes these days. If it is the smell of the stuff that bothers you, then I say deal with it…lots of people end up having to huff farts on the B.O. Bus on the way to work everymorning. We all have unpleasantness to deal with in life.

  5. So you, the everyday, intelligent, considerate, non-smoking taxpayer, somehow manage to walk behind twenty-five people a day, every day, for seven to ten minutes at a time, inhaling? What the fuck is wrong with you? Life just not so fulfilling with nobody to blame for the little irritations of your day on this planet with the rest of us? This is a great new age of morally upright nonsense we live in. Everybody thinks that their own personal rights are more important than the personal rights of anyone else, and their war cries have become pathetic, self-important log cabins. “Oh, well, THEY smoke, so they don’t HAVE the same rights as I do! I’M not a smoker! MINE are the only rights that shouldn’t be infringed upon! I’M not asking for cancer, THEY are! Oh – and I pay taxes!” (easily my favourite – the one thing we all have in common, and yet it’s the first thing people rely on to try and add weight to their arguments). It’s interesting that your high self-opinion leads you to the conclusion that you’re a better person simply because you choose not to smoke, but smoking cigarettes is still LEGAL, and people are still going to do it where it is legal to do – in their cars, in their homes, and on the street. They know they shouldn’t do it in designated non-smoking areas. So, when you’re near those areas, 2nd hand smoking, you get to be the helpful wag that points it out to them! That’s your time to shine!Where’s all the verbal wrath and venom that should be reserved for oil companies and car manufacturers? Or for the space program, that undoubtedly is fucking up the environment on a massive scale and impinging on everyone’s right to a clean and healthy atmosphere? Is it just easier for you to give a big ol’ fuck you to individuals who smoke, because they aren’t as strong or powerful as the big ol’ smokestacks? If you’re on the same street walking behind a smoker, you can either fall back a few steps (if you can stand the infringement on your all-important personal rights by doing so) or catch up to them and be assertive, dammit. Say something like, “Hey – I have to walk behind you, and you’re smoking”. But, something tells me you probably “feel” you “shouldn’t have to” do that, because you’re so nice, and so smart, and such a good non-smoker, and a fine, upstanding, tax-paying citizen. “Why should I? Why shouldn’t THEY? I shouldn’t have to, THEY should have to!”Wow, we all want to be equal with everyone… until it comes to someone who we deem inferior based on their personal choices. Oh, you can’t even walk down the street anymore without smelling smoke? So get yourself a mask and a fucking cupcake! “Why should I have to get a mask?” Does it ever fucking end with the self-importance and the lack of personal accountability? What do you want? People not to smoke in front of you on the street? Sounds like you need to make different choices. “Why do I have to make different choices? Why shouldn’t someone else make a different choice?” If what you’re doing isn’t working for you, change it and you’ll get a different result. People have a personal choice to smoke or not, you’ve chosen your stance (cue applause). That big ol’ “fuck you” works both ways. Either get back there and suck it up – insisting to yourself and all who will listen that, rather than dissipate upwards, the smoke is like a guided carcinogenic missile going directly into your cancer centre – or catch up to the person and tell them how you feel. And remember, when you invade their personal space on the street, to tell them that their smoking is invading your personal space, and that your personal space is more important than theirs, street rules apply. Pick your battles carefully.

  6. sounds like someone needs a smoke beavI used to smoke dont anymore, did walk everywhere with a smoke in my hand, never had any complaints. This beav though is making up an argument him/her self making statements no one mentioned then arguing against them…seems like it could have been a bitch in it self about ppl who bitch about smokersjust a question to the beav are you a smoker frustrated over the “morally upright” world turning against you?

  7. What does it matter if I smoke? My choices are my own, and I don’t choose to follow smokers around coughing and whining about how inconsiderate they are. Cross the street. Fall behind. Catch up and pass them. Politely tell them how you feel. Curse them out. Make the choice not to smoke. Come and bitch in an anonymous forum. 2nd hand smoker chose the one single avenue that would do absolutely nothing to solve their own problem. I walk behind people every day who do and say shit I might find offensive, and who smell terrible, which makes me just the same, no better or worse, as the person who originally posted, because sometimes it pisses me off too. And if it bothers me that much, I will weigh the situation and either say something, or move steadily forward in life and forget it. Demanding other people change their behaviour because *you* have this overinflated notion that their behaviour directly affects you is awfully self-involved, and promotes a victim complex for yourself. It’s not me who the world is turning against, it’s the fucking crybabies who want the world to spin exactly as they dictate who get pissed off when things don’t go their way. My world is just as I like it to be, and when it isn’t, I make changes, not cry about what everyone else should be doing to make shit easier for me.

  8. Thanks, Matt 🙂 I did steamroll a little originally and I apologize to everyone for ranting. You said it very well with your closing bit about more important and relevant environmental issues. No more coffee for The Beav today 😛

  9. haha beav the world turning against u thing was just a poke prod type of thing, cause I do agree that posting online does offer zero results to the OP, but being a smoker or non smoker will change the bias anyone would have about this.

  10. Just wanted to say that smoking sucks. As i enter every buildings entrance except for where i work, I have to walk through a cloud of smoke, while there’s clearly a bi-law sign posted next to, and i’m not saying all of them are, the moronic smokers. There’s a difference between respectful smokers, and moronic smokers. I also read a comment about some BS that smokers go through? Can someone please elaborate on that BS? I don’t see a smoking ban in a restaurant as BS. I don’t see banning smoking from public transit as BS. I don’t see banning smoking from the work place, hospital, airport, mall, clinic, grocery store as BS. Only BS smokers will go through is when they ban smoking all together and hopefully that will happen soon. I love how in all these posts they start comparing global warming to smoking to make themselves feel better about smoking. You wanna smoke, go ahead.. Inhale all you want. Kill yourself, just do it away from me and don’t take me with you. That was the point that was being made here. It’s funny how this is called a bitch section, when it’s actually far from it. Seems like anyone with any opinion here get attacked by the same people on most bitches, well whatever posts that somehow describes them, like this smoking one. Obviously most of the responses are by smokers. Smoking is terrible. Everyone knows it. You can’t quit because you’re afraid of quitting. Get off you high horse and just admit that not a lot of people are fond of smoking. In fact, more people are not fond of smoking/smokers than the ones who are. I have actually yet to meet a non-smoker that find that habit attractive. Honestly, have a little respect and smoke in the designated area, don’t crowd an entrance to a building and fill it up with smoke because that’s what happens. That’s the whole reason why they created designated smoking zones. It’s too cold outside, oh well, we non-smokers had to put up with you’re poison for years. You can’t even put up with laws since Dec. 2007. Always crying about how cold it is outside to smoke and you wanna smoke inside and it’s not fair. Just a little piece of information. Global warming is happening regardless of what we think. Wake up and smell the coffee. We came from an ice-age. How the hell do you think everything thawed? Animal waste produces lots of green house gases. The polar caps have been melting at a slow rate for centuries. We, humans, are merely adding to the speed of things. So stop bitching about Global Warming and start bitching about ur government taking advantage of the fear they created to charge us more taxes due to the environment. Next thing you know, they’ll charge us a living tax. Actually they do, it’s called income tax. without income you can’t survive. Oh by the way, one more thought. I haven’t heard of someone dying from walking down a street due to fumes, but i have had the pleasure in meeting someone who dies due to second hand smoke, and the smoker didn’t!. Good point there made by comparing car fumes to second hand smoke.

  11. Overly paranoid non-smokers (coyotex) really need to chill out a bit. The original bitch was about smokers on the sidewalk, which is really not that big a deal. Walking through a cloud of smoke on the way into a building, is also not likely to give you cancer, but since there are signs posted, smokers should obey them (same as bus shelters). Matt and the Beav pretty much sum up the rest of my thoughts, good points guys.

  12. Matthew, I’m not trying to stir shit, but do you really think the smoke you inhale from a smoker 2 feet in front of you in the outdoors is really going to hurt you? Toxicity is all about dose. Your body makes formaldehyde regularly when it processes the methanol found in many fruit juices, wines and alcohols. Methanol is also, for that matter, toxic in high doses and benign in low doses. Our bodies are very good at processing toxins if the dose is low. We have all been bombarded for years about all the poisons in cigarettes and seem to have all become irrationally terrified by the mere sight or smell of cigarette smoke. It typically takes years of constant smoking to get cancer from it. Everything in moderation folks, let’s keep our perspective and give smokers some breathing room to do what they have the right to do on a sidewalk. And if we non-smokers don’t like it, we can also get the filters matthew talked about. and while we are at it, let’s wrap ourselves in bubble wrap, for that extra bit of safety,

  13. So let me guess.. Matt is the complete right and everyone else around you in the world, who was affected more by second hand smoke, people who ban smoking in public spaces for a good reason, and all the reports that were given out during environmental meetings around the world that state the facts about global warming; that it’s happening regardless, we’re only speeding it up, are completely wrong. So all these scientist, all these hospital tests that have proven that second hand smoke is disturbing are wrong and you’re right Matt. I see you’re thoughts. Also i couldn’t help but notice that it seems anyone that doesn’t agree with you, you immediately attack who they are and start swearing at them. The above comments you wrote sum up my point. Miles, we gave smokers some breathing room. We created designated smoking areas for that reason. Some provinces even supply smokers with mini ashtrays to carry with them to keep the butts rather than throwing them on the ground. That costs money. My taxes are going towards that. If we wanted to save money, we wouldn’t have made the effort. We accommodated smokers for years. It’s only been just over a year for the new bans and they can’t even accommodate our wishes. Walking into a cloud of smoke on the side walk isn’t that great of an issue. obviously no one paid attention to the more pressing issue that i mentioned about smokers CROWDING the entrances to buildings you frequent. That’s mainly what i know is rude and disrespectful to everyone around you. Try it someday. Go around different malls and count how many smokers are standing at the entrance. Only place i noticed that clients and employees actually don’t do that is the Super Store on Joseph Howe Drive. They have a designated smoking section at the end of the store and everyone utilizes it. For us not to give smokers a break, once again as i mentioned previously, would be to take away those areas and ban them from smoking in public all together; which i completely support, or ban cigarettes, which i support even more. We can control our transportation, YOU can control your smoking. You wanna talk about pollution, round up all the smokers in the world and imagine the amount of toxins going into the air. If that doesn’t concern you. It concerns me. For some odd reason i get the feeling that you’re resentful of anyone that owns a car, and I’m assuming you don’t own one. Maybe wish you do?! And yes i always hated cigarettes since i was a kid. I couldn’t stand the smell, the look on someone smoking, or the taste, not from trying them, from second hand smoking them! It’s a really disgusting habit and that’s just my opinion. A lot of smoker may agree with me on that one and they’re wanting to quite but are having difficulty reaching their goal. I also find it very fascinating that after Matthew mentioned a few solid common knowledge facts, you completely turn to putting him down and insulting him. Matthew I support your argument. You bring up valid points.

  14. Coyotex, I completly agree with your point about smokers crowding entrance ways to building when there are signs posted against it. It is rude and inconsiderate. The same with smoking in bus shelters. And I feel for people with asthma or other breathing problems who are affected by that small amount of smoke. The main point I was trying to make, which I believe it true, is that exposure to the levels of smoke being bitched about (sidewalk, entrances, etc) is nothing more than a nuisance. I agree with Matt though, that there a far greater things to be worrying about than small ammounts of second-hand smoke once in a while…like the pollution spewing out of cars and coal-fired powerplants. Spend a summer morning in Toronto or Vancouver where the smog is so think you can’t see the tops of buildings and you will see my point. And I think the vast majority of scientists agree that humans are not just making a natural global warming process faster so much as we are actively destroying a delicately balanced system. I know that both camps get equal air time, but that does not mean the two camps are of equal strength. Global warming is a HUGE problem that requires immediate action.

  15. its soooo pointless if smokers/any group can use a cop out of ohh there is a bigger issue, im not saying global warming isnt a huge deal that needs attention… but any smoker who uses the fact that there are things worse than them for the environment as justification for their actions is a cunt and can slowly and expensively commit suicide and our government and general population will not bat an eye because lets not forget… there are way bigger issues

  16. ps i guess.not saying cigg smokers are the devil and killing the world environmentally anyways, just that “there are bigger issues” is a cop out for a habit that is stronger than the person

  17. Matt, you’re just one amazing fella. Again with the name calling. Obviously i’m not the one playing video games since i’m paying more attention to research. No one said Global warming isn’t happening. This post was originally placed on here for a reason. The bitch was about smokers not respecting non-smokers. I don’t hate smokers, I hate smoking, there’s a difference. Obviously you HATE non-smokers and people who don’t agree with you for some reason. Why can’t you be more like Miles, just peacefully debating things rather than just forcing you’re view on everyone. All in all, smoking is terrible, everyone knows that, and almost everyone agrees that it’s a disgusting habit even some smokers do. Miles, global warming is an issue that will never be resolved. It’s always going to be there no matter what we attempt to do about it. We can all go solar or wind power, or even geothermal for heating and that will only slow global warming down. It will still happen. It won’t come to a halt. Give it a couple of years and see where Global Warming ends up. Governments in NA will start charging their residents taxes and charges related to Global Warming. Remember what the fad was 2 years ago? I don’t see as much fatty foods attacks and Healthy food adds on TV anymore. I don’t see Obesity as this big issue on the news anymore. All you hear about is Global Warming. They want you to live in fear and that’s all there’s to it. Everyone knew Fatty foods contributed to obesity, no surprise there. For some reason 2 years ago it took the public by storm. It’s the same with Global warming. YES I AGREE IT’S TERRIBLE, but where was Global Warming 3 years ago. I don’t remember hearing much about it. You probably won’t in 5 years. If not let. Just keep watching and you’ll see. What happened to Osama, You don’t hear much about him anymore. 2001-2003 it was all about terrorism. Really, how unsafe did you feel? Once that dies, Fast and fatty food came to light. That died and now it’s global Warming. Before Terrorism it was something else. Before that it was something else. I know it’s off on a tangent here, sorry.

  18. Coyotex, remember back in the 80’s when there was actually a hole in the ozone layer, and then we stopped putting CFC’s in everything, and now the holes are smaller/gone? I think that is the better analogy to the global warming situation. I agree with you that we do go through some pretty big fads in the news that don’t do a whole lot more than scare people and create hype over things that are not going to change very much. That pisses me off too. But I think the science really supports global warming being a very real problem that demands attention. Now I don’t think the world is going to blow up or all humans will die or anything. I think things will continue to get worse until everyone is inconvenienced into action. It would just be better to take action now and save some money. And of course there will be corporations and governments trying to turn a buck on the global warming scare, like the new carbon tax inBC that is easy on industry and hard on the public..amounting to more tax revenue and little real change. But this rant has little to do with smoking, so I will stop now.

  19. Matt, man you really do have some issues. Do you even read what you write? Do you fully comprehend what other people write? I can see you can read because you mention things written in there but i don’t think you fully understand what they’re implying. Due to that, i believe you resort to insults and degradation. Makes you feel better I guess. People can agree and disagree with each other, but wow! I have never seen anyone as ignorant, insulting and abusive as you are. Not only on this post, but go to different posts and i have yet to see you refrain from insulting anyone that disagrees with you. Man you so remind me of Bush!

  20. cool matt, I never said it was irrelevant although the OP only seemed to be bitching about getting smoke in their face not its adverse affect on the world…so i guess relativity is blurry…All i was saying was that there will always be a bigger issue to anything someone will bitch about on this board.I also dont remember saying I was strong let alone stronger than anyone else smoker or non, I said that the habit is stronger and if a person smoke knowing what it can do to them then in my opinion it is stronger than them.Wonder what matt maybe thinking “fuck your opinion”,I like others agree with you on alot of posts ( could just be the law of probabilities though) but your points and arguments are so full of insults to faceless names on a board…not like im against cursing its just seems to be your go to thing, disagree – curse the person out – reiterate how valid and correct your point is and repeatIts also funny and revealing how you thought my previous post was directed at you individually, unlike this one “Honestly, do you like to argue or are you that ignorent you do not think what was said is relevant to the bitch?” so many people saying that ciggs are not a big deal because of bigger issues.Maybe taking up smoking could help calm them nerves a little bit there guy

  21. whatever there guy ur a joke you make shit up in a half ass attempt to put out personal insults in an online forum… i would say you are probably spineless in real life and have no other way to vent…it is kind fun making harsh generalizations with no real basis…and if I get to have the last word…matt your a cunt

  22. matt is a bully. It’s good to see some people have realized this and are starting to call him on it. You had a good run little man.You only see what you want to see little man. The first person to post with a view that differs from your own results in a barrage of personal attacks. Obviously, you don’t talk like this to people in your day to day life or you would certainly be a poster boy for beating of the week club.Sure, bitching about grammer and spelling in an online forum is a little rediculous but when you are going to call someone ignorant …. spell it correctly little man. Somebody corrected you and you continue to spell it incorrectly. I agree coyotex … just a little bit of irony when you spell ignorant incorrectly. You’re likely too obtuse to realize you should lighten up a little bit and I don’t really expect that you will. Since you enjoy the anonymity the internet provides you should not be so dim as to realize that nothing is real on here …. including you.Understand that you will not be able to bully me little man. Your one dimensional insults are childish. Your lack of respect for others is irrational and you, my small minded poster, are being held accountable. It’s obvious others are starting to feel the same way. When they are not there to call BS then realize that I will be. I have no plans of leaving any time soon.

  23. Sorry about that posters. Sticking to the post:Smoking really is a hot topic in this city. I feel the gov’t should shit or get off the pot regarding ciggies but they are to reliant on the tax revenue to do anything substantial.Great points on both sides but I’d have to agree w/ the beav. I’m a non smoker and when cig smoke on the sidewalk is an issue I speed up or slow down. Really, does it take any more than 20 seconds to do either and if you are going to say something when the smoker is in the right (legally maybe not socially) I agree that street rules apply.

  24. Let’s be honest folks, there are several people on here that defend their (often intelligent) views like rabid pitbulls and reading those posts is part what makes this place fun. Replying to those rabid pitbulls must also be quite fun, since there are more words on these boards dedicated to calling down instigators than words dished out in attack. Perhaps that is because we all realize that a late bus and a snoot full of second hand smoke are actually pretty trivial things to complain about but arguing with each other is more real-world and satisfying. This is not meant to be a dig at any pitbulls or their critics, just a friendly reminder to keep on bitching on.

  25. a BIG thank you to Jenn at the top!smokers go through so much hassle its un real! people just pick and pick when they are just wasting their time if you dont want to have smoke in your face when someone is near then move to the right or to the left. It is my decsion to smoke i am going to pay for it i dont need a twit like yourself giving me a big fuck you

  26. to all those who stood up to Matt bravo!! Matt, ignorent is spelled ignorant. Matt I suggest get a good shrink dude.

  27. What a stupid bitch.Honestly though people pick on smokers so much but maybe the cigarette gives them just a little bit of pleasure in their day. I agree with no smoking inside buildings and bus shelters but I think people need to chill the fuck out when it comes to sidewalks. Some people are so prejudice towards smokers and say they are disgusting and killing themselves and what not but dear god people leave them alone. It wasn’t that long ago that people smoked in bars now people are complaining about them smoking outside of bars. My advice is if you are a smoker and have children don’t smoke in your car or your home- that is unfair to them and they shouldn’t have to breathe in your smoke. Be a polite smoker! Its possible you know..
